Twenty-Four
Receiving his capture weapon through the mail, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Actually, it looked like what it had looked like before. He wasn't surprised... okay, he was a little surprised he admitted. The thing looked exactly like his former scarf, to the T. He started inspecting it, wanting to see if he could find the differences between the two versions, but he couldn't find any. Deciding to stop inspecting his newly made scarf, he scratched his chin.
He stood around with the other faculty members in UA at the Practical Exam Area- Center Plaza. Today was the day for his homeroom's practical exam, and he knew that neither of them were prepared for the exam yet, as they made a sudden alteration to the exam, seeing that they were a class that could be targeted from the League of Villains. Knowing this, the teachers decided that it would be best if they pushed the students to higher limits. He was aware higher upperclassmen might have informed them that they would have been fighting the zero pointer robots in the exam, but that information gave them no gain in today's exams.
Once the students arrived, he and the other teachers all stood at the front entrance of the building. "Now, we will begin the practical exam," he said as he gazed at the line of the teenagers in their hero costumes. Most were determined or relaxed to pass this exam, maybe because they've been given false information about this year's exams. Though, he saw the curiosity and wonderings of the students as they looked at him and the others confusingly.
"Of course it is possible to fail this exam. If you want to go to the training camp, then don't make any stupid escapes."
"There are a lot of teachers..." Jiro quietly noted to her classmates.
"I expect that you all have gathered information ahead of time and have some idea of what you will be doing."
"We're fighting robot warriors like at the entrance exam, right?" Kaminari outbursts.
"Fireworks! Curry! Tests of Courage!" the pink-skinned student followed.
Aizawa almost wanted to smile, and disprove their wishful thinkings, to crush their dreams there and then. But he knew that the Principal who cozily buried himself in his scarf, was going to deny it, so he maintained his emotionless face and posture. His scarf poked around and moved, then popped out the rat, bear, dog, person-ish. "For various reasons, the exam will be different starting this time!"
"Principal Nezu!" the students greeted out in surprise. He wasn't surprised by their reactions, but he was still somewhat angry that the Principal would request to hide in his scarf. He wasn't sure how his scarf hid his body so well without any noticeable dents or bulge from it, but he made no point in trying to complain. Though personally, his cherry and almost endearing atmosphere made him a bit sick, he would never say that however.
"Different?" Yaoyorozu questioned.
"From now on," the principal responded, getting out of his scarf and climbing down his side using his scarf. "We want to focus on person-to-person combat and hero work," getting down on to the ground with the help of Thirteen, "and stress teaching that is closer to actual fighting."
Nezu's face darkened as his aura suddenly shifted to a dangerous and ominous air, like a bipolar person that suffered from multiple personality disorder. "So... We'll have you form teams of two to fight against one teacher!"
As expected, the majority of his students gasped out in surprise, eyes wide with open mouths as they hung with shock. Nervousness must have struck their cores by now as they continued to panic. He loved seeing the internal gears in their heads winding fast as their mind scattered for all kinds of thoughts. He could see that just from the look of their faces.
"In addition, the pairs and who each pair will be up against have already been decided," Aizawa added. Those who were determined at my discretion based on on various factors, including fighting style, grades, and interpersonal relationships, so here they are: First, Todoroki and Yaoyorozu are one team, and they're fighting me," he slightly smiled sadistically with empty eyes but a grin to contradict it, as he gripped his scarf. And Midoriya and Bakugou are a team and their opponent..."
As if planned on and on cue, All Might jumped out of nowhere, landing in front of the pair as he raised his fists dramatically. "I... will do it."
"All Might?!" the two of them exclaimed.
"Work together to beat me, you two!" the No. 1 Hero smiled as the two of them glared at each other in surprise and shock.
Aizawa's mind flashed through a recent memory about a week ago, in the Conference Room where all 10 teachers sat. This was where they were discussing the student pairs for the practical exams.
"With the connection between the Hero Killer: Stain and the League of Villains, there is the possibility the villains will be reinvigorated, huh?" Nezu said beside him. "Of course, it would be better to prevent that before it begins, but as a school, it would be best to be completely certain."
"If we consider how fights against villains will continue to intensify in today's society, then combat training is not practical. Originally, robots were used to avoid complaints about people being injured in the entrance exams," Snipe added.
"We can just ignore those. Let them say what they want," he said, ultimately not caring about what others said. Although that may be true, it didn't give a chance to people whose quirk were like his; that weren't physical or offensive in any way.
"We can't exactly do that now, can we?" Midnight replied.
"I understand why you want to change the exam, but having the students fight us in teams of two..." Cemontoss answered, glancing back at the other teachers to see if they had equivalent thinkings.
"Yes, I think that is a bit unfair," Thirteen agreed.
Personally, Aizawa knew that, which is why they needed a way to put them teachers at a disadvantage against the students. Changing the goals and ways of how to pass the exams was also a way to lessen the unfairness, or simply; just hold back.
"If we win too easily, we won't be able to give them grades," Hizashi remarked back, proving Thirteen's and Cemontoss' opinions furthermore.
"Of course, we would take that into consideration and give the students a handicap," the Gun Hero stated.
His thoughts were mixed, but he was much more partial to agreeing to having the exams about battling them. Though, with his conflicting thoughts as he knew he could easily overpower the students, he decided to turn to the man in the highest position at the school. "Principal Nezu, what do you think?"
"Of course, I also agree with changing the practical exam. What should we do to keep the students from being in even more danger? The answer is simple," he related as he looked up at the teachers with a bright and positive atmosphere. "We must have the students themselves become stronger."
"That's true," the R-Rated hero expressed her thoughts.
"I have no objections," Thirteen confessed.
"Then, to determine the teams- First, Todoroki. In general, he's doing well, but overall, he has a tendency to use brute force. And Yaoyorozu is an all-rounder, but lacks the ability to make spur-of-the-moment decisions and apply them. Therefore, I will erase their Quirks and take advantage of their weaknesses in close combat."
"No objections!"
"Next for Midoriya and Bakugou, I'm leaving them to you All Might. For these two, I didn't pair them up based on ability or grades. Just on how badly they got along. You like Midoriya, right? Please instruct them well."
His gaze returned back on the American-like hero.
"And now we'll announce the teams and the teachers they'll be up against all at once!" Nezu shouted.
Aizawa's match happened to be the last match, right after Bakugo's and Midoriya's, so that gave him four and a half hours to watch his students as they performed. This would be a good time to further examine his students and see what could be strengthened and improved. "The time limit for the exam is thirty minutes! Your objective is to either put these handcuffs on the teacher, or to have one of you escape from the stage!"
"Capture the teacher or escape... It's kind of like the combat training," Kaminari connected.
"Is it really okay to run away?" Ashido questioned, raising her hand slightly as a gesture to gain attention.
"Yup!"
"But it'll be different from the combat training!" the voice hero yelled. "You'll be against someone waaaaaay better than you."
"Better... than us? I can't really imagine it though..."
"Dummy! Hey girl, watch your mouth! You hear?" Hizashi exclaimed out loud.
"This time, your exam will be very similar to a real battle. Please think of us as villains," Thirteen explained.
"Assuming you come across the enemy, if you think you can win a fight against them, then that's fine. However-" Snipe pressed.
"-In cases where there's too big a difference in your abilities, it would be smarter to run away and get help," the Erasure Hero finished. "Todoroki, Iida, Midoriya. I'm sure you three understand this well."
"I won't make that mistake again. I will pass this test and prove that!" Iida muttered to himself.
"Fight and win, or run and win," Midoriya deduced.
"That's right! Your decision-making skills are being tested! But with these rules, you're probably thinking the only choice is to run, right? That's why we had the support course make these for us!" All Might explained, then pulling out a pair of metallic bracelets.
"Ultra compressed weights!" Present Mic announced.
"We'll put on about half of our body weight. It's to give you a handicap. It's old fashioned but it makes it hard to move and eats up stamina! Oh shoot, they're heavier than I thought... By the way, there was a competition to decide on the design, and we ended up using Young Hatsume's!" All Might continued.
"To allow us to consider fighting you, huh? You're underestimating us," Bakugou replied.
The blonde hero laughed, before switching to a more scarier and threatening demeanor. "I wonder."
"All right, each team will take the practical exam in order on the prepared stage. Sato, Kirishima, get ready. Those waiting their turn can watch the exams or think of strategies as a team. Do what you want. That's all," the ebony haired male said before turning around with the other teachers and retreating inside the plaza.
Aizawa watched the first pair students in a separate monitor room with the rest of the other teachers as they observed the Hardening-Quirk possessing student and the other sugar-consuming hero-in-training. They were against their comrade, Cemontoss. He bit his lip as he tried to cover up his disappointment and anger at their forwardness- literally. Hadn't they realized they couldn't rely so heavily on their quirks? They had limits, unlike the pro hero himself, and they were going to tire themselves. They could have at least thought this through somewhat. Charging in front puts them in a heavy disadvantage. Idiots. He let out a sigh of irritation, rubbing his forehead knowing he would have to make the remedial classes ten times harder than he usually did if these teenagers were not paying any attention to their combat classes. How did they even pass the written portion if they have this kind of logic? The entrance exam was definitely not rational enough.
He wasn't surprised the two students were engulfed in cement as their sweaty and exhausted bodies couldn't do anything to stop it. He shook his head, wanting to facepalm then and there. He rubbed his tired eyes. He wasn't sure if he could survive if he kept having to witness these failures. He wondered who else would fail. Hopefully not too many, he himself didn't like to teach classes until 2 AM with numerous teenagers, he liked his sleep, but knowing he would have to kiss that goodbye during the Training Camp, he became increasingly upset.
The second set of pairs stepped up, being Tsuyu and Tokoyami. The two of them were good students, not excellent in academics, but they were still good, but their combat and heroics were better. Tsuyu was good in covering all her weaknesses, with no clear vulnerabilities. Tokoyami was similar, except he relied a little too much on his quirk, which acted more like a personal bodyguard rather than anything else. Being the good students they were, they most likely thought of something, but seeing if it was going to be effective against the clone-making hero was the real test. Whether they planned on running or capturing was a choice to them.
He sighed, rubbing his forehead. This was going to be a long day wasn't it?
