Trip
It was a rainy day in Jump City. All the Titans had decided to take a break off of their training, ultimately deciding to leave the crime up to the police. Most of it this week had been only petty crimes.
"We need to head to Gotham, beloved, pack your things." Damian checked his phone, responded to a quick text, and put it in his pocket
"What's happening?" Raven asked
"Family emergency." He folded up one of his many turtlenecks and put it into a small carry on suitcase
"Why am I going? This seems like a personal matter."
"You're family now." He said simply, not adding any context behind the statement
She arched an eyebrow at him, "Since when?"
"Since everything, now get ready!" He said, sharply
She nodded, snatched a few of her clothes off their respective hangars, and put them into his same suitcase, "You consider me to be family?"
"That's besides the point." He took the carry on into a car, which he probably took from Dick without permission.
"You should call Alfred to pick us up."
"I've been driving since I was eight."
"Whatever you say." She got into the passenger's seat and put on her seatbelt
"It's almost a four hour drive. By the time we'll get there it'll be almost midnight." He informed
She nodded, "How am I supposed to busy myself until then?"
"Go on your phone, I guess. Don't complain about this because I'm the one driving for four damn hours."
She laughed, "You sound like an adult."
He chuckled and kissed her cheek, "I know."
* * *
"What time is it?" She yawned and took a sip from her soda that she got at one of the many stops they stopped at.
"Don't you have your phone?"
"It's dead and you refused to buy me a car charger, remember?"
He waited until they caught up with traffic and pulled out his own phone, "Eleven." He slipped it back into his pocket.
"I'm getting tired." She rested her head on the window.
"Then go to sleep."
"I don't feel comfortable with you driving so late."
"You don't feel comfortable with me driving at all."
"How is that helping your case?"
"Shut up."
She laughed sleepily, "I want to sleep."
"I told you to just sleep, then."
"I don't want to when there's this fourteen year old driving for a whole 'nother hour in the middle of the night on a highway."
"I've been driving since I was eight."
"You keep saying that."
"It's true."
"There are a lot of things that are true about you, but I don't repeat them once every minute."
"Such as?"
"You know that thing you do?"
"What thing?"
"When you get angry and you hug Titus?"
"You know about that!?"
She smiled, "Don't underestimate what I know and don't know."
"Go to sleep, already."
"Pull over."
"I'm driving."
"Stop driving, then."
"I can't or I'll get to Gotham late."
"I need to sleep."
He groaned and drove for a few minutes, trying to find an exit. Luckily, he found a state park, one that was covered in trees.
"We'll sleep here for the night." He said as he drove the car into a clearing. "Happy?"
She nodded sleepily, "Very." She reclined her seat all the way, creating a makeshift bed.
"And don't get scared, I'll protect you from anything."
"I don't do fear."
"You were scared of me driving. "
"I was worried, there's a difference."
"Yeah, whatever you need to tell yourself. Just go to sleep."
She kissed him before she dozed off. Keeping true to his promise, he stood up the entire night watching over her. It was a small price to pay for this and seeing Raven peacefully asleep gave him a feeling in his stomach that let him know what he was doing was right.
And, although he could have driven off while she was asleep, he would much rather stay here and watch over his girl.
Because, whether he liked it or not, he was falling in love. There was nothing he could do to stop it.
But he wasn't going to be stopping it anytime soon.
