The Words

Must be a prank.

No absolute way Damian would really write this about her?

He had never shown interest in her. It was never something he would do, so what had made him want to write this letter?

Probably to mess with her head or something similar. Nothing could convince her that he really liked her.

She decided to confront him about it and ask why in hell he would do such a cruel prank.

She hadn't even considered the fact that maybe he had actually meant what he said. She had no reason to, since nobody had ever felt that way towards her.

Actually, she'd accepted it at this point. She had realized that Damian, or anyone else, for that matter, wasn't going to reciprocate any feelings she had felt towards them.

Stomping over to his room, she didn't even bother to knock and barged inside, "What the hell is this?" She asked, holding the letter he wrote up to his face

"It's a letter from me to you." His face lit up, "Did you read it?"

"Yes. I did, actually."

"So..?"

"What the hell makes you think you can try to toy with my feelings like that."

"Raven, I--"

"Y'know, I've never really confessed to anyone and you do this?"

"Let m--"

"I put my heart out for you and this is how you respond? With lies, trying to convince me there's a chance! Well, there's not and I've accepted this!"

"Liste--"

"I'm sick and tired of your game, Damian. If you didn't like me, you didn't have to go out of your way just to make me think you did."

"But I d--"

"Just take your stupid letter and fake feelings and don't talk to me again."

"What fake feelings?"

"You're still continuing with this charade?"

"Charade? Raven, what the hell are you talking about?"

"You don't have to spare my feelings." She looked down, letting her insecurities show, "If you don't like me, just say it."  She whispered

"Why wouldn't I like you?"

"You said it yourself, I'm the daughter of a demon. A witch girl--your words, not mine."

"Did you even read the rest of the letter?"

"I did."

"So why are you denying the fact that I have feelings for you?"

"Because nobody ever has."

"Well, I am a huge nobody."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I really do like you, Rave."

"You do?"

"Well, yeah. You're..amazing."

"You're just saying that." She sat down on his bed and hugged her knees, resting her chin on the gap between them.

He wrapped and arm around her waist and slid her body close to him, "Of course I'm not. Do you actually think I'd toy with you like that?"

"No.." Her voice trailed off, "I guess I just built my guard up too high."

"I'll be there to break it down for you."

"You will?"

"Haven't I always been?"

She nodded into her knees, "Nobody's ever been real like this with me. They always feel pity, y'know?"

"I can relate." He held her head into his chest as he stroked her hair, "We're more alike than we thought."

"Yeah, we really are." She smiled, lifting herself out of his arms and sitting up straight, "Do you think we could ever, like, take ourselves to the next level?"

He smiled slightly, "What's the the next level?"

"You know..more than friends?"

"As in best friends?" He continued to mess with her, wanting to hear her say the word he had been wanting to hear.

She had believed that he only wanted to be her best friend and nodded reluctantly, "Yeah, I guess. If that's what you w--"

"No! No! That's not what I want! You don't really think I would only want to be your best friend..right?"

She shrugged, "I wouldn't be surprised."

Getting tired of her putting herself down, he took her by the face and surprised her by pulling her lips up to his.

Shocked, at first. Slightly scared she was going to ruin the moment. Eventually melting into his gesture. That's how the kiss went down.

He hesitantly pulled away from her and smiled, still waiting to hear the words.

"Does this mean you're my..boyfriend?"

And that's when she had said the words he wanted to hear.
