Day Five: Scar Worship
"Damian..?" Raven said. Currently, they were reading together. Both Titans enjoyed finding a good book to read, so they, being a couple and all, had decided why not read a novel together?
The character in the story was patching up his wounds he received from a swordfight. Damian continued to ramble on about his techniques and how the motions described were completely inaccurate. The main character, according to him, deserved those injuries for being so terrible at fighting. But who would've been so surprised of his criticism? That was Damian, after all. Raven looked at him after seeing the damage the character had to now endure from the fight. She connected the person in that book to Damian; both were selfish, vengeful, and sometimes ruthless personalities . Naturally, she'd wonder about the physical similarities.
Damian finally caught himself from his never-ending rant and turned to his girlfriend when she said his name, "Yes, beloved?"
"That guy has a lot of scars.."
"Well, yeah, it's because he didn't put any effort into it and has no knowledge on fighting. He's such a disgrace to the art an--"
Raven caught him mid rant, "What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Scars.. How many?"
"Too many to count, Raven."
"Some are from me, aren't they?" She shrugged, looking down.
"What do you mean, love? Of course not."
"Like, from defending me and stuff.." She pointed at a scar on his collarbone. "Remember when you took that hit for me?"
"Which one of them?" He chuckled airily, but the joke only uneased her even more. He caught notice of her demeanor and pulled her closer in reassurance. Of course he didn't mean for the joke to make her feel worse, it was simply his version of an attempt to lighten the mood. But he immediately tried to shake it off when he saw the effect of it, "I do have scars and bruises from helping you, but it isn't as if you gave them to me directly. And it's okay for me to have them. All they mean is that I was able to overcome the obstacles."
"Can I see them?" Raven waited for his approval and slowly lifted off his shirt when he nodded a yes. She lightly traced her finger over one of the various markings on his skin. "Do you feel anything?"
"It's numb now." He smiled subtly at Raven's concern for him.
Her slender fingers felt over another of of his scars-- a bigger, more noticeable one. "Where did this one come from?"
"Father trained me too hard." He notice her expression change into a more sympathetic one then put his hand against the hers on his chest, "Don't dwell on it, it was long ago."
"Do you ever wish you had perfect skin?"
"Is it not already perfect?" He smiled at her again, "It doesn't matter whether or not I have scars, I happen to like it that way if it gets me such attention from you." He smirked.
She laughed and shrugged, "I guess I like them too." She then grazed her hands over the entirety of his chest, feeling the marks one last time, "They make you who you are.. and I love who you are."
"I love you too, beautiful." He kissed her forehead, "And, believe me, Rae, I'm not the only one with a few scars."
