"Hope, you aren't forgetting anything?" Munachi asks Geraldine while they both run down the stairs. It was clear, they were on there way to the parking lot because the school bus was already in motion.

The only thing lagging was the student's participating in the competition to board the bus. The few students who were going to cheer and support them were boarding the next bus.

"Hey! Mind the way you walk, I don't want your sweaty body touching mine. I don't want to smell." She blurts out not blinking.

Geraldine recognised the voice instantly, she wasn't also disappointed when they made eye contact.

"You where the one who ran into me." Munachi defends.

Geraldine doesn't miss the rage in her eyes, neither could she comprehend the look Jewel had on her face. It was just like she never really knew Jewel.

"Did you call me smelly?" Munachi asks with a raised eyebrow, seemed more like she just picked that up. Also, she looked more pissed than she had been.

"The fact you have got hearing problems isn't my business, please move! I want to pass." Jewel says.

"No one is hindering you." Geraldine blurts out without thinking. Her eyes fixed on Jewel, who blinked a bit, her facial expressions softer, in less than a minute, she hardened it. All this development, where seen by Geraldine.

"Why is she so full of herself?" Munachi asks no one in particular. "Does your Dad own this school? Walking around like her Royal Majesty, like everything revolves around you. Well, you are wrong." Munachi says, with her eyes wide open.

Geraldine couldn't hide how surprised she was at Munachi's outburst. This was the first time she was seeing the side of her.

"Who knows, maybe you are the smelly one," Munachi concludes.

This wasn't supposed to be an issue of Jewel had just shut her big mouth. What was the need to call her smelly?

Geraldine throws one look at Jewel who didn't look moved, it seemed more like she was oozing confidence.

Geraldine knew that look, she knew Jewel so much to tell that, whatever she was going to say now, would worsen the issue, the girl had no filters, and always wanted to have an upper hand in such occasions, funny enough she didn't lack comebacks, which were always hurtful.

Most times, Geraldine wonder, if she actually thought before speaking, which apparently was the direct opposite.

"Ouuuh!" Jewel smirks making a mock sound. "Yeah, my daddy doesn't own the school, but I am very glad to know you consider me your Queen," Jewel says slowly. Meanwhile, Munachi scoffs.

"Muna, let's go. The bus." Geraldine who already felt irritated by Jewel's mere presence suddenly says. She wanted to get Muna out immediately, to avoid any more talks, because Jewel was going to say something which wasn't going to be funny soon. She knew that.

She didn't also miss the look Jewel gave her.

"No, don't go, you can stay and keep talking to Jewel," Jewel says. "Since we are now on the same level. I don't blame you, it's condition that made crayfish to bend. Like if you see me on the road, you could open that gutter of your's to talk to me, Hilton College has placed us on the same level na, how will I blame you? When I have Mr John and the school management." Jewel hisses, now attempting to walk away, but gets pulled back by Geraldine.

Jewel didn't only just look shocked but surprised. Not just by how rough Geraldine had pulled her, but the rage she saw on her face.

"What's your problem? Don't you think before you talk?" Geraldine almost barks, when she realized what she had done. She let's go of Jewel immediately, it was more like the anger she had felt just disappeared, after engulfing her fully.

"My problem is.., " Jewel's voice seemed low and shaky that moment, neither Geraldine or Munachi misses it. "Mind your business, I wasn't talking to you." Jewel barks, you could see the anger on her face, her tone finally changed.

Geraldine doesn't utter a word, she only swallows the huge lump in her throat, watching the retreating figure of Jewel, as she moved giving her way.

Jewel suddenly stops turning in her direction.

She moves her mouth, but no word came out, it seemed like she stopped herself from uttering another word.

That moment, Geraldine knew it was over between them. Every damn thing.

     Taking one last glance at Leo, Jayden didnt miss him squeeze something into his back pocket. He could tell what it was, though he didn't see it.

Most times he wondered if Leo was using drugs because if he wasn't, he was likely to switch to that soon, the rate at which he smoked these days wasn't something to write home about. Most times he would sneak out in the night, hide during prep. When Jayden asks, he would say it's medicinal and laugh it off. None of this Jayden found funny, he just had to act cool.

It made Jayden wonder if he would have noticed this behaviour if they hadn't gotten closer, He knew something was wrong. He rarely slept at night. At first, Jayden thought it was a reading habit since he was always up with a book. But it seemed more like there was something more to it.

He really wanted to talk to him but didn't know the manner to approach the situation, besides he saw him as someone smarter than doing the stuff he did. He didnt want to seem judgemental.

He didn't miss how Leo almost froze when their eyes met. Like he was shocked or something. Jayden quickly tagged it, as been surprised he had been staring at him all along, and maybe he saw him, insert whatever it was into his pocket. Surely they pocket knew what it was.

In a split of a second, Leo takes his eyes in another direction, making Jayden follow suit, he couldn't help but remember the first time he saw Leo smoking, whatever he said.

With the look of things, Leo was already addicted, battling addiction wasn't as easy as the word sounded.

"Maybe I should climb your head,"

Jayden couldn't help but give that his full attention, the statement wasn't only very clear to his hearing. The person was standing in front of him and was also referring to him.

Of course, not just the voice, but with the statement, he knew the only bitter person on their team, who would make such a statement, as he would prefer to refer to like.

Taking her full face in, he took note of the fact she wasn't photogenic, she looked way better than her pictures.

He took note of her tiny face, coupled with her bulgy eyes, tiny nose, her lips which he noted immediately, weren't red or pink, it look kind of dark. Her hair wasn't made but packed into a bun, the coils dropping down stylishly.

"Don't creep me out with your eyes, move." She says authoritatively. He didn't miss the rage in her eyes, also he could see most of there classmates looking there way. Currently the art representatives, they looked like they were having a group meeting or something.

He blinks twice, on impulse. Moving at the same time on instinct. She hisses immediately he did that.

"Weirdo."

He could swear that was what he heard. While she walked away. He noticed she was bouncing but suddenly stopped walking. In a split second, she changed her walking step, making her seem more female like.

Jayden analysed the situation, as she being very cautious of herself and the environment. The next thing she does make him wonder, what that was all about. She suddenly stopped, turned back, gave him a short, weird and hard look, all at a time, before getting on the bus. Jayden is left speechless.

It's been almost an hour since they got on the bus, everyone seemed very busy minding their businesses. Geraldine had Munachi by her side. She noticed Munachi seemed rather too lost and quiet. She knew it had something to do with her encounter with Jewel, but choose to keep mute about it since the topic wasn't something nice to talk about.

The competition was in four hours, she was certain they were going to get to the event centre at New GRA.

"Did you get any information on where it's holding?" Munachi suddenly asks, picking Geraldine's attention.

Geraldine turns slowly in her direction, to meet her staring.

"Hotel Presidentials," Geraldine responds slowly.

"It's at Aba road abi?"

"I hope you all are properly prepared?" Mr John's voice is heard loud and clear.

Some groans are heard.

"We would be there soon. I can see the distress on your faces already." Mrs Chidinma says and chuckles.

Geraldine slowly takes her gaze away from Mrs Chidinma's smiley face, only to meet Jayden's intense gaze, which was caught off, immediately their eyes met.

She felt bad that instant, especially remembering what she had said to him due to anger.

The boy was annoying, but didnt deserve the way she snapped at him, she hadn't missed the fact he had been stealing glances at her, which made her anxious for a while, then he suddenly stopped, making her feel relaxed. Only to meet his gaze again. She couldn't help but wonder what was going on, in that head of his.

She could see the very huge difference between Jason and Jayden. It was damn visible.

She slowly takes her gaze to her book, then to her left again. This didn't shock her, but provoked her.
This was the second time someone was getting on her nerve in one day. First Jewel, now Ekanem.

Ekanem was giving her a look, like she was some trash or something.

Geraldine slowly releases a scowl on her face and stares hard. Seeing them now, you would think they were having a staring contest. Ekanem suddenly looks away, but not after rolling her eyes. Geraldine let's out a small hiss.

"Sick bitch." Geraldine blurts out slowly.

"We have arr..,  "

"Thank God." Munachi whispers slowly to Geraldine's ear, totally obstructing Geraldine from hearing what Mrs Chidinma had to say.

"Hey!"

Jewel takes her head up immediately, she isn't only shocked but surprised to see Nathan. Not just that, but his sitting position.

Nathan was seating on her freaking row, which wasn't only weird but new. This was the first time he was trying such.

He had a small smile playing on his lips, his hair weaved back neatly, she couldn't help but admire it.

Currently, he was directly on Leo's seat. She was clearly the only one occupying it, Nengi wasn't in class, for a reason she had no idea about, the other three were on there way to "Hotel Presidential's" If they hadn't arrived already.

The class wasn't coordinated at all. Everyone seemed to be doing all sort of things, which didn't include studying.

"I thought you were going to join the cheer group," Nathan says, more like he was asking a question, although it was meant to be a statement.

Jewel hesitates a while before responding. She hadn't even thought it that. Then it hits her, before now she would have gone to watch and cheer, so far as Geraldine was there, even though not for Jayden's sake, but things had changed.

"No." She responds trying to look ahead, and also to hide how anxious she felt. "You?" She asks, her voice breaking, due to how nervous she was having him so close.

"Not my kinda event. Not my circle." He responds.

"Oh!" She mutters.

"I knew, class would be dull today," Nathan says, and chuckles, making Jewel wonder why.

"It's normal," Jewel responds. She suddenly tenses up, when Nathan drops his hands on hers, squeezing at the same time taking it into his. That moment, she wanted to melt.

The way he squeezed it tenderly, there is a sudden deep silence between them.

"Sorry about the other day, I was feeling sick..., "

"It's no issue." Jewel caught him off, remembering the whole thing. He had asked her to meet him, and she really did wait for him, but got disappointed.

Jewel's eyes suddenly meets with Eno's moving mouth, what picked her interest wasn't' just because Eno was looking her way and moving her mouth, but also because Ukeme was staring.

They were obviously tabling her topic. She knew that fact. Surprisingly not, just to anyone, but to herself. She looks away from there direction, taking her eyes downcast, to see Nathan playing with her hands.

"What about this night?" He asked.

She could hear the hope in his voice.

"I'm on duty!" She says.

"Come on!" He drags on.

"You all are welcomed to yet another exciting Federal Government Inter-State Quiz Competition." The moderator announces immediately they are all up on the podium.

Jayden stares at his classmates, who where representing them. Mr John had asked them to pick themselves. As planned Munachi, Ekanem and Geraldine, alongside two Art Students, a male and female. He could remember them being called Rianat and Eric.

According to Mr John, this was the first competition, they needed all the staminal's they could get. Jayden never uttered a word during there banters, that way he didn't fail to notice how cold and withdrawn Leo had been right from the drive up here, till now. He could see him staring ahead, with the corner of his eyes.

Jayden had noticed few students from his school arrive, they were all seated quietly. He could also see the opposing school. Seemed more like, they came with the whole students from there school. As funny as it sounded, but it was true.

"This competition is between Greenhood Hills Academy, a round of applause to them." The moderator says.

While the applaud, Jayden takes the opportunity to adjust on his seat, he was already feeling too uncomfortable. They had sat down all through the ride, not again. His butt was hurting.

"And Hilton College. Applaud them." He says.

Noises are made why the audience applaud. Jayden noticed it was unlike the noise been made when the other school was applauded for. This was way lesser.

What should he expect when they almost came with the whole students in their school. That was what Jayden thought that instant.

"Okay. The competition is going to be over four grounds." He suddenly stops for a moment, there is a brief silence. "I am ready whenever you are, " He says now looking at the contestants.

"My name is Roman Daniels, and I will be moderating this particular competition, I think it's important to get to know who you are, so I start with you." He says turning to the left.

"Representatives of Greenhood Hills Academy. Remita Gbemiga, Semiloore Briggs, Daniel Paul, Osinachi Douglas and Daima Austin, by my right, we have got representatives of Hilton College, Rianat Adebayo, Eric .A. Daniels, Munachi Ameachi, Queen Ekanem Edet and Geraldine Oghenefejiro Johnson's."
The moderator says.

"The rules are...,"

Jayden totally blanks out immediately he starts reading the rules. The whole thing was just taking too long, he wanted them to get at it already.

After some minutes of staring into the space, his mind drifted to nowhere in particular, he gets distracted by the alarm, which meant business had started. He slowly tries to adjust slowly on the chair, while he looked ahead.

"A concave mirror can be used to produce a parallel beam of light if a lighted bulb is placed?
(A.) between its focus and the pole (B.) at its focus (C.) at its Centre of curvature (D.) between its focus and Centre of curvature.

"The correct answer is B."

Jayden took note of the person who responded from the rivial school.

"Why is a damp blue litmus paper placed at the mouth of a jar during the preparation of hydrogen chloride?" (A.) To determine the effect of the gas on the litmus paper (B.)For the litmus paper to absorb the gas.
(C.)The litmus paper has no effect in the experiment. (D.) To determine when the jar is full.

"The correct answer is A."

Jayden took note of the same girl again, who didn't waste time to jump at the question.

   Trying to avoid the harsh sun, Jayden moves to a less hotter place. The whole environment seemed very noisy.

What was he to expect? They had just finished a quiz competition. Most students where in a happy and jubilant mood, while others had a long face.

He took note of the fact, students from there school where already boarding the bus to leave. You wouldn't miss the smile, they had on there faces.

"Hey," Leo calls out with a calm look on his face, while he joined Jayden.

"Hey," Jayden responds calmly.

"Look at your faces? Someone seeing you both, would think we lost." Ekanem who just walked in on them, says in her usual bubbly manner.

"You guys were good," Leo confirms, a small smile appearing on his face, meanwhile Ekanem chuckles, now entangling her arm into his, while he just leaned on the wall.

"God, when I saw those students, I panicked oh, see their serious glasses. And I was like our Art students are learning work oh." Ekanem says and chuckles, meanwhile Leo let's out a short-lived laughter. Jayden's facial expression is blurred.

"See their squads na, it felt like everyone from there school came to cheer for them." She chuckles.

Jayden's facial expression changes, more like a small smile was forming. Ekanem had also taken note of the same thing he did.

"Abeg, smile small," Ekanem says hitting Jayden roughly, in a playful manner. Meanwhile, Leo chuckles.

"Guy, see that girl. Honestly, she really gave us hard time." Ekanem says, nudging both boys to look forward.

Jayden took note of the girl immediately. She looked very calm and quiet. Also reserved, she just stood on her own, hugging herself. She looked very skinny too. Her glasses seemed to almost taking over a look.

"Remita!"

They heard someone call out, immediately the girl they were watching, turned around. In no time, she starts walking down to the direction of the man calling her, who looked like a teacher.

"Not just her, the other guy Daniel Paul. He was also tough. Like I got scared for you guys at a moment." Leo chuckles.

"Honestly, I was scared oh." Ekanem chuckles. "Those their glasses aren't for fancy." She laughs.

"Hey!"

Their discussion is put on hold immediately, while they all give the person audience. They took note of her immediately.

Jayden noticed she was one of the participants of the rival school.

"I have been staring at you both for a while, I can't really say about you." She says giving Leo a look, "But you!" She smiles at Ekanem. "You both look familiar." She smiles, twitching her eyes for almost a second. "QueenOfHearts on instagram." She smiles.

"You look familiar though." Ekanem acknowledges, looking like she was trying to recall or something.

"TheOfficialSemiloore, " She smiles.

"Yeah, I remember." Ekanem chuckles. "You write too? " Ekanem asks trying to be sure of her facts.

"Yes. The same one." Semiloore smiles.
"You know I write?"

"You advertised your book Finesse on Instagram, I did follow it." Ekanem chuckles. "I felt so emotional, that I felt I could just unread it, but really. You are a hell of a talented one." Ekanem chuckles.

"Wow, thank you." Semiloore smiles. Jayden didn't miss the look on her face, she clearly looked shocked for some reasons. "Congrats to your school though, they would always be a winner, not two." Semiloore smiles adjusting her glasses.

"Thanks, you guys were tough too. Besides we should save the congrats till the finals, If we get there." Ekanem says.

"Remita!" Semiloore suddenly calls out to the skinny girl they had seen before.

All this while Jayden and Leo paid attention to the girls chitchats quietly.

"Mr Kelvin said we should all assemble at the parking lot."

Jayden watched the girls say to Semiloore, her voice seemed stressed, she sounded like those people with tiny voices.

"Give me your contact!" Ekanem suddenly says to Semiloore.

   Geraldine couldn't help but stare at him. This was the first time she was seeing him laughing, he didn't only look surprisingly very cute, but the fact she couldn't help but pick interest on what Ekanem had said to make him laugh so hard.
