Ashley couldn't imagine he could ever be this numb. He only followed Nathan who suddenly stops walking on getting to the doorposts.

"Did you come with it?"

It took Ashley a few seconds to understand what he was asking about, though he knew shits were going down tonight.

Though he knew Nathan wasn't serious with Jewel, the fact what he saw had to do with Leo, he knew if Nathan found out, he was going to get upset.

He was very sent sensitive spot that had to do with Leo. They had a strange relationship with siblings.

"No!' Ashley says honestly, remembering he was been asked a question. "I left it in your locker," Ashley says to Nathan who just lets out a small hiss, obviously thinking about how he was going to go back to the hostel at that moment.

The voice wasn't only loud, it sent signals into her brain, as she pushed Leo off her by instinct, trying to catch her breath.

She couldn't handle what was happening. The game she was playing was a dangerous one, and she was about to get caught.

She had to take a deep breath before turning to Leo who only stared back at her. The look he was giving her made her very uncomfortable, and she couldn't read meaning to it.

It was a blank yet worrisome look.

He suddenly starts walking away, without uttering a word.

"Leo!" She calls out on instinct.

"Goodnight!" He says slowly.

"Are you mad at me?" She asks.

"What? No!" He scoffs. Though his response wasn't convincing at all.

"Are you coming with me? Your boyfriend might still be around, "

The way he emphasized those words, made her nervous.

Geraldine who didn't know the answer to this question, just keeps mute. She didn't have an answer. Things with Nengi had changed. They hardly spoke. She didn't know if to say they were cool or not.

Geraldine feels a pull on her hair. This act makes her look up, only to see a smiling Jason, who was only looking for her trouble.

She lets out a small smile, especially when he walks past her, now headed to his seat.

Munachi only smiles and gives her a look.

"But you like him?" Munachi asks giving him a look.

This makes Geraldine blush, she couldn't help it. To think she was blushing because of the question.

Jewel felt a little bit excited seeing some questions she knew the answers to.

Some of us can relate to this, and some can't.

She wasn't an A student, so this meant a huge deal.

She turns to her left with the hope of meeting his gaze. They hadn't really spoken since the other night.

She doesn't meet his gaze, she goes back to writing. She attempts the questions she knew the answers to. When she was done, she slowly calculates the one's she didn't know, which outweighed the one's she knew.

She bites her mouth anxiously, now staring at her work.

"Those of you doing combined works, I am coming for you, and those with expo's. Pray to your God, I shouldn't catch you." Mr Philip says.

Deep down Jewel was starting to hate this man, it was a mere dislike before now, but had turned to hate.

"Which one's haven't you done?"

She heard him loud and clear, even though his voice was low.

The kind of insecurity she had started feeling around Leo was something she was getting worried about. He was just perfect in anything. Which made her wonder what he saw in her, that made him so crazy about her. What was so special about her? She had to ask herself that.

Not to forget those days she looked down on him, getting to know him better, she knew her judgment about him was wrong, from the beginning to end.

She moves back, giving him access to go through her work.

"Sir, we weren't doing combined works, you can check our script," Leo says slowly.

"Leave, honestly I didn't expect this recent behaviour from you. You used to be a very bright student."

Why do teachers love being dramatic, "used to" Jewel reflect on the word he used.

She heard a familiar voice, she takes her head up, only to see Mr John.

"Hope you guys are enjoying the questions?" Mr John asks and laughs, causing some funny reactions in the class, which Mr Philip rudely shuts them up.

Both teachers suddenly start walking out of the classroom, quite engrossed, especially with the full attention Mr Philip was giving Mr John.

Geraldine couldn't help but smile at her stupidity, she was supposed to be writing an exam here but was busy poking her nose into what wasn't her business.

Almost taking her eyes down, her gaze catches something, which makes her stare in awe.

Leo stood up from his seat, got to Jewel's and exchanges their booklets, then goes back to his seat.

It was the nerve for her, he didn't even care he was been seen.

Jewel even let him, she had been seeing a different side of Jewel these days. The Jewel she knew wasn't even going to relate with him, not to talk about all this.

Almost bumping into Jewel, Geraldine gives her and Nathan space to pass, she noted there hands were entangled to one another. She watches them absentmindedly till they had walked a distance.

"She is dating Nathan, while does it also feel like she is dating Leo too?" Munachi suddenly asks, reminding Gidi she had company.

Also what Munachi had just said made sense to her.

For a moment, it felt like Leo and Jewel were more than friends. The way they looked at each other, behaved.

He hadn't spoken about anything that had to do will Leo, and deep down she
didn't want him to. She wasn't a good liar, so wouldn't know where to start from in denying what was going on between her and Leo, which didn't have a name to them, but to Nathan, it would be called cheating.

Everyone was expected to be in the auditorium, which meant something had happened and the principal wanted to pass a very important information.

She hadn't heard any rumour about it, so she didn't know what it was all about.

On getting into the hall, with so many people, she starts feeling quite uncomfortable.

"I know majority of you here haven't been conversant with the news, but we all are aware of the pandemic, and how rapidly it has spread worldwide and currently in the country." He pauses and looks around. "Some states went on lockdown last week, and we have been praying the spread of the disease will be controlled, but yesterday night, the governor addressed the state, and he has asked school's, churches and every populated place to go on a break till further notice." The principal addresses.

You could hear murmurs at this point but die down after a while.

"Your parents have been offered, from tomorrow your parents will be coming to sign you all out. As for the SS3 students, this could cause delays in your senior waec, but let's hope and pray for the best." He says.

Jewel bites her lips slowly, with the thought of going home.

"I think so," Geraldine responds when she noticed both girls were staring at her, obviously waiting for an answer.

"Wow, I love your earrings." Ivy suddenly says complimenting the only earrings Geraldine had left. The one she was putting on when the others got stolen.

"Thanks," Geraldine responds genuinely, meanwhile Ivy walks away.

"She is too cunning for my liking." Munachi comments immediately she was out of sight, meanwhile Geraldine processes what Munachi just said.

She had been secretly observing him since he came in for prep. Low key she hoped he hadn't caught her stealing glances at him.

Meanwhile, she tries to zip her bag pack, her hands shaking.

This was their third breakup. She was threatened by Geraldine. He knew she was right to be threatened, but he tried his best to make her feel comfortable and better, he even avoided Geraldine most times, but yet, she keeps acting like a crazy girlfriend.

Things was awkward, although this was how it used to be between them.

"You think you are crazy though, but you haven't met me!" Munachi suddenly says slowly, to the hearing or just the four of them present on the seat. Geraldine was nowhere to be found. While a Nengi turned his attention to them.

"You are saying this because you haven't seen me mad, and I pray you don't. Don't ever in your life, take that parasitic butt of yours close to my seat." Jewel says.

"And you!" She turns to Leo who was probably minding his business. "Move your butt, everyone should have their demarcations here," Jewel explains, meanwhile Leo stares at her with a curious look.

Now that statement, drew Jewel's attention. She looks ahead only to see Eno, Ukeme and Ekanem.

It was Ukeme who had just uttered that. The way it looked, she was pretty convinced it was two against one.

"Both of you, get out of my way," Ekanem says looking at the both of them.

"Says to two-faced idiot." Jewel blurts out without thinking. It just slipped.

Everyone suddenly turned in her direction including Ekanem.

"Madam ITK, who invited you here?" Ukeme attacks immediately.

"Look at this child I will beat to a pulp right now." Eno who looked provoked suddenly says, facing Jewel.

"Look at who wants to beat me to pulp. With which hand? That one?" Jewel asks and chuckles.
"God almighty knows if I open my mouth and say it's me and you today. You will go home and start crying." Jewel says. "And there is nothing you can do to me.

"Just go to hell, attention seeker. " Ukeme says now turning to Ekanem who just stood very speechless. "The next time you try to challenge me, you will see what I would do to you. Ashawo!" Ukeme says.

"You that have aborted twice, I can see the ashawo," Jewel says, before realizing what she had done. Especially with the attention she had gotten, everyone was staring at her.

She let out an uncertain chuckle. "Now you know how it feels when you are been told harsh words," Jewel says and chuckles with uncertainty, she hoped everyone bought it.

Geraldine jumps on her Dad, immediately she opened the car.

"Calm down!" Her Dad laughs, while he struggles to sit properly. She slowly crosses to the other sea and sits properly.

"Put on your seat belt." Tari instruct, meanwhile she turned to her Dad. a
"Daddy, I missed you!" She says like a little child, meanwhile her Dad chuckles slightly.

"How is everyone?" She asks slowly.

"Everyone is great." Her Dad responds, meanwhile she smiles.

"Is the pandemic that bad?" Geraldine asks knowing the answer. The fact her Mum would be part of the people at the front line was another thing altogether.

"We are just hoping it doesn't get worst than this, all the state might go on lockdown." Her Dad says, meanwhile she nods her head.

"That's by the way." He smiles at her. A smile he always gave when he wanted a favour.

"Daddy no!" She chuckles.

"You haven't heard me yet." He laugh, concentrating on the road.

"I know how your favours goes." She smiles.

"It's I and your mum's 9th wedding anniversary." He says and smiles. "I want to plan a surprise, and of course, I need your help."

"Daddy, I have a choice in this right?" She asks and laughs.

"It's not difficult." He says and chuckles.

"Okay." She smiles not even aware of what he wanted.

"How was school?" He asks slowly.

"Fine." She responds without thinking twice.

"You know, you are just like your mother, kind of similar to her back in secondary school days." He says and chuckles.

"Really?" She asks smiling.

"Yh, just that you aren't troublesome and rude. Your mum was a big-time trouble maker, you see her and those pests she called friends. God knows I disliked those girls." Her Dad said and laughs.

"How did you and mum happen then?" She asks suddenly interested.

"We grew up together, your grand mum's were best friends. We got close when my mum asked her to tutor me." Her Dad says and laughs.

"So you and mum were best friends?" Geraldine asks.

"I wish." Her Dad scoffs. "You know sucking blood right?" He asks, meanwhile Geraldine burst into laughter, like she knew what he wanted to say next. "Let's call your mum that. She was the worst person to be an enemy to. I can still remember the day she threw a bottle at my face, that woman was a definition of crazy." He says and laughs.

"How did you feel when you found out about me?" Geraldine finally asked what she had always wanted to ask her parents. She knew she was a mistake, but really wanted to know how they felt.

"Confused." He responded slowly. "I was only seventeen. And when your uncle Kenny told me, the only thing I wanted was to know how your mum was doing. She suddenly left school when she fell ill, and the only thing I heard was her leaving the country, I was confused and was waiting for the holidays to go back home. Only for Kenny to break the news to me on his graduation day." He suddenly stops.

"I loved your mum so much, I didnt intentionally get her pregnant, we had our problems though, I always felt insecure. But when I found out about you, I never regretted it for one day. I was only scared, because I was too young to be a Dad, and what your grandma would do to me. Trust me Aunt Monica was another mad person, Wendy took after her mother." Her Dad says and chuckles.

Geraldine only smiles. Most times she wondered if someone was going to love her the way her Dad loved her mum.

As soon as Jayden gets into his bathroom, he pulls his shirt.

He could vividly hear Jason and Jewel yelling at each other.

It wasn't new, so she ignored them as usual.

They were the cat and rat in the family. It was no use trying to create peace because they were always on each other's necks.

There were so many questions in his head, and he was sure she saw it in his eyes.

Questions like,

Was he really going to have another younger sibling?

At first, he had seen a wedding ring on her finger, which he disregarded immediately.

Did his mum get married, and didnt bother to at least enlighten him about the new development.

The assurance he wanted was.

His father was still in the picture.

"Go and take a shower, your food will be prepared." She says and starts walking away.
