ACE (Jeff X Reader) ~The Death Card
(Г・ω・)г
"We meet again, Y/N.." The voice breathed down her neck.
The girl instantly knew it was LJ, the monochrome clown. She dared to open one of her eyes to see her standing in a new bright environment. She opened another eye, seeing that she was standing on a glossy marble floor, tainted in black and white on each separating spot.
As she gazed up, she immediately felt that she had shrunken into the size of an ant. Everything around her was ten times larger than it should be. Her eyes were round with wonder. "Where am I?" She whispered.
"In your imagination," a voice whispered back.
The girl turned around to see LJ, shrunken too, but he was still looming over her. "Pardon?" The girl asked.
"We're in your imagination." The monochrome clown repeated calmly.
Is this what my imagination looks like? She wondered. As if the clown had read her mind, he grinned and walked in front of her, towards the gigantic clothes dresser. "It's part of your imagination." The clown explained. "You are able to imagine whatever, and it will appear. Go now, try it." He urged the girl.
The girl wasn't sure if she had heard him right, but his stare made her fear grew as she gulped and turned around, closing her eyes and imagining that this would be all over. She slowly opened her eyes, but nothing happened. She was still in the same room. She whirled around towards the clown, demanding for an explanation.
LJ was trying to hold back a laugh. He bit his lip, pain overwhelming his laughter. "My dear," he sighed. "That's not allowed. In here, we play the game. Now, try again."
The girl sighed, frustrated before turning around and squeezing her eyes shut again, focusing on something. She imagined a little stuffed bear, something that she can hold onto, driving her fear away. Soon, she felt herself clutching something stuffy and soft.
She opened her eyes and saw a little grey bear, it's fur was smooth with fabric, it's black eyes and little black nose were gleaming. "It worked.." She whispered, her eyes wide.
She turned around to face LJ again, seeing that he was smiling proudly at her. "Well done." He congratulated her, by nodding his head.
The girl gripped the stuffy teddy bear hard, faking a smile as she looked up at the clown. "Thanks," she said, through her gritted teeth.
"Anyway," the clown continued, turning his back around. "Shall we continue on with the game?" He asked.
"What game is it?" The girl asked, cautiously, peering around the clown as if she were trying to see her face.
"Would you fancy a game of chess with me-" the clown said, turning around, and walking towards the girl before bending down and extending his palm out as a mannerly fancy gesture. "-M'Lady?" He finished.
The girl stared at the clown's open palm, not sure whether what to do, but accepted the fact by taking his cold hand, and immediately LJ started smirking. Immediately, he let go of the girl's hand before bending back towards his usual posture, upright.
He clapped his two hands together, and swirls of smoke surrounded him and the girl as it lifted the both of them slowly up into the big gigantic room and gently setting the both of them down on a largly flat, open-wide wood table that seemed to stretch on for miles.
The girl was still trying to figure out what had happened, looking back down to see that the marble floor that looked like a hundred meters above of where she was right now.
"Remember," the clown's voice said behind her. "This is the imagination, after all." He smiled.
He clapped his hands twice, and immediately, the wood floor disappeared, replacing, was a big chessboard. The clown was on the opposite side of the board. He clapped his hands again, and large chess pieces began appearing out of nowhere, softly landing on their places.
A white-colored King (a chess piece), landed in front of her, seeming bigger than the other chess pieces that were surrounding it. Another following large chess piece that followed after the white colored King, was a white colored Queen that landed gently beside the King piece.
Seeing that all the gigantic chess pieces were blocking her view, she walked forward and edged around the chess pieces, with gentle care. As she finally wedged her way through the chess pieces, she glanced upwards to see the clown already setting up his black chess pieces, standing directly in the opposite direction of her.
"As you can see," the clown explained. "you have the white pieces, while I have the black." He stared at the girl, his gaze never lifting off hers. "You've played chess before, haven't you?" He asked the girl.
The girl nodded in his response.
"Good. Then you know the basic rules then." He nodded.
He snapped his fingers, and a large hourglass floated in between the black and white chess pieces. "We'll have one hour to complete this game. And soon enough, concluded, there will be a final winner of this game."
"What if times run out and neither of us have won?" The girl quietly spoke up.
The clown smirked at her. "Guarenteed, I am a master of these games. There will be only one winner in this game." He said, holding out one finger.
"Then, what if I lose? What happens?" She asked.
"Remember the last game?" He asked, "The one with the maze." He reminded her. The girl slowly nodded, old memories making her spine shiver. LJ eyed her as she shivered. "I suppose you do remember." He continued. "Three lives. If you end up losing this game against me, you lose one life out of those three."
"And.. What happens if I lose all three of my lives?" The girl asked, her fear starting to eat her out.
"Ahh, my darling.." The clown sighed, shaking his head. "Jeff hasn't planned on what he'd do if you do end up losing those three lives." He glanced back up at the girl, grinning, his sharp white teeth gleaming at the girl. "But I do."
Suddenly, she felt as if the ground were shaking, and she immediately fell to the ground, trying to clutch on one of the chess pieces to hold herself with balance. For a few moments, the shaking finally stopped and the girl slowly stood up. She slowly stepped out and looked over the edge of the chess board to see that it had risen even up higher. She gulped at the sight before quickly turning away.
She glanced over at the giant floating hourglass to see that the sand had already began sliding over to the bottom. The game had already begun. She turned towards the clown to see him leaning against his black chess piece King. "You have the first pick." He said, eyes gleaming. "May luck be with you."
"Thanks," the girl managed to say. She gently layed the teddy bear she was clutching on one square of the part of her chessboard. She tried recalling her old memories of playing chess with her family.
"Now, Y/N.." The girl's dad's voice echoed throughout her mind of the fond memory. "There are a few tricks up on everybody's sleeves," he winked at her. "But your old man knows a few of those tricks up my own sleeves too." He chuckled. "The King chess piece is the most weakest, yet strongest of them all. You must protect yours, and destroy your opponents. But for now, control the Rooks, Pawns, Knights, Queen, and Bishop to get an early start."
The girl opened her eyes. She glanced around at one of her many white Pawns. She stepped over to one of them and began pushing it hardly towards her chosen spot.
It didn't budge.
She heard a chuckle across the chessboard coming from the monochrome clown. "Silly," he laughed. "You're supposed to command, call out to your desired chess piece and move it based on your calling instructions." He explained.
The girl stopped pushing. It made sense after all, she thought. This was the imaginary. She stepped forward of the giant white Pawn before yelling out, "Pawn, Forward!"
Immediately, the large white shaped Pawn started sliding over, making the girl step backwards as it moved forwards in the far left corner of the chessboard to one white square. She glanced back at the clown who was still leaning against his large shaped, black King, as if he had done this a million times with ease, and had won every time.
"Rook, vertical-forward." He commanded.
The black Rook started shifting it's position, gliding with grace across the chessboard before stopping one square near her white Pawn. The girl gulped, seeing how close it was together. The clown saw her nervous stare at the two chess pieces from at a far away glance before smirking.
The girl took a deep breath. "Remember, kiddo. Even though the Pawn could be the weakest advantage, it could capture other stronger chess pieces. For example, the Rook or the Knight. If the Rook is close enough, you are able to jump one square forward, capturing your opponent's piece."
The little 8-year old girl in the vivid flashback memory let out a squeaky voice. "But, pappa." The tiny girl mumbled. "Why are there so many of them, even though they're so weak?" She asked, tilting her head.
Her father stiffled out a tiny laugh before rubbing his hand against her hair. "Once the weak join forces, it soon becomes powerful, my darling." He chuckled.
Her father's voice slowly faded away, making the girl snap out of her vivid flashback. She narrowed her eyes, paying attention closely. "Pawn, capture." She ordered.
Immediately, her white Pawn, suddenly grew larger, towering over the clown's black Rook before jumping up, and landing on the clown's black Rook, smashing it to bits. Silence over-filled the room as she looked at the remaining pieces of the black Rook, now destroyed.
Even though she had a long way to go in the next hour, she felt a little accomplishment. Joy was overwhelming her, as her eyes lit up, smiling at her tiny victory.
She was one step closer to winning this game.
