"I'm,"
What are you going to say to me?
"Moving"
To where? Please don't leave me.
"Away from here."
Why? When?
"I'm moving away in two weeks."
That's not enough time.
"I'm sorry."
How could you?
"I really am."
Sorry doesn't fix anything.
"We're still friends."
Are we?
"I'll come and visit sometime."
Lies.
"Then maybe we could hang around?"
No.
"How about I buy you some cool snacks when I get back?"
Just leave.
"Hey, are you okay?"
Leave.
"Jeff?"
Leave me-
"Jeff?"
"I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah,"
"Why were you silent for so long? Are you mad at me?"
Yes.
"No," The boy lied.
BEEP! BEEP!
"Mom's calling, gotta go."
Wait. Don't leave me.
"Bye! I'll see you again."
No, don't leave me.
Please.
Don't go.
I need you.
The girl came to the boy often as she could, spending her time with him. But the boy didn't seem to respond back. He wouldn't talk, he wouldn't laugh, and he would always tell lies.
"Hey, wanna play video games?"
Yes.
"No, I'll pass."
At night the boy would often stare outside his window, out into the woods. He felt a strong urge to do something.. but he didn't know what. It felt like he didn't know what his heart want, or what his brain wanted.
"Jeff?"
The boy looked up, to see his brother, brown hair with glowing green eyes that reflected the night. He sat down by the boy and wrapped his arms around him. The boy didn't seem to respond, except gripping his brother's clothing really tightly, not letting go.
"What's wrong little bro? Everything alright?"
The boy couldn't lie to his older brother, they made a blood promise to always tell each other their secrets.
The boy shook his head slowly. "Everything's ruined," he whispered, gripping his brother's shirt into wrinkles.
The boy felt his brother pat his head comfortingly, rocking him back and forth. "It's that girl, isn't it?"
The boy nodded his head, feeling his eyes beginning to feel heavy.
"Don't worry Jeff. I'll make sure she gets what she deserves." The boy's older brother patted him on the back, looking down on the boy, who was already fast asleep on his lap.
The next day, the girl came to the boy's house, only not to find Jeff standing there, but his older brother.
"Oh, hi Liu. Is Jeff here?" The girl asked, tilting her head inside to get a good peek inside the house.
Liu stepped in front of the girl. "Jeff isn't here." He replied coldly.
"Then where is he? If he's near, I could go to him." The girl said, looking up at Liu.
"He went out of town." Liu replied roughly.
"Why?" The girl asked again, her eyes full of curiosity.
Liu just sighed, shook his head and sat down so he was in front of the girl, not looming over her. "Look, Jeff was pretty upset that you told him you were moving out. He just needs some time to think."
The girl looked puzzled. "He should've said so. Did he lie to me?"
Liu hesitated, not looking at the girl, but instead stood up and went next to the door. "Don't be mad at Jeff. He has only one friend, which is you. So don't hurt his feelings." Liu warned, narrowing his eyes.
"But-"
The door slammed, cutting the girl's sentence off.
Back inside the house, Liu was standing in front of the door, his eyes closed as he let out the most quiet painful sigh, escaping out of his lips.
Suddenly, a quiet voice piped up. "Liu..?"
Liu turned his head around, facing himself to his younger brother, Jeff. "Oh, hey there little bro. You almost gave me a heart attack," Liu laughed, clutching his chest.
"Did you tell her?" Jeff asked his older brother, tilting his head slightly.
Liu sighed again. "Yeah, I did. Anything for you, little bro."
Jeff said nothing more, except nodding slowly and disappeared out of the corner, into the darkness.
"Maybe we should move.."
"Yeah, I agree. The promotion is too hard to ignore. A better life for the kids."
"But will they like the sound of that idea?"
Jeff was standing behind a corner in the darkness, listening to everything. He didn't care though, the girl was already moving in two weeks anyway.
He silently walked up the stairs and pushed the door and disappeared into the room. He sat down on his bed and wrapped his arms around his legs. Suddenly, a soft hollow knock came from the door, slightly opening, sending bright lights into his room.
Before his eyes could adjust to the brightness, he noticed that it was none other than his older brother Liu, glancing at him with sympathetic eyes as he came to sit down next to him on the bed.
"We're moving." Liu blurted out, getting straight to the point.
Jeff just nodded his head. He already knew.
Liu looked taken back by his response. "You knew?" He asked.
Jeff nodded again. "I heard them." He replied.
"Well, at least you'll get your mind off of that girl. It's a better life ahead of us," Liu said, putting his arm around Jeff. "I promise."
Liu had always kept a promise. That is, until he made his very last one.
The urge of having to go to the forest made Jeff uncontrollable. What made things worse was when he and Liu encountered three bullies. Keith, Randy, and Troy. Eventually, the feeling turned worse. At night Jeff would always go downstairs into the kitchen and pull out a knife out of the drawer, slowly smoothing his hands over the sharp surface.
Until one day he cut himself.
At first he felt sharp pain, but soon turned into a feel of joy. He kept doing the same thing, covering himself with bloody cuts over and over, until he would everyday where his white hoodie, covering up his cuts.
From that point on, everything began to change. He wouldn't talk anymore, and would speak less to Liu now. He would often sometimes go to the forest, but the limit would always be 3 steps into the border of the forest, until he would go back.
Today, he stepped into the woods again. He counted each step he took.
"1.."
"2.."
"3.."
He stopped walking. Nobody was calling him to go home this time. Joy leaped in his heart as he continued walking.
"4.."
"5.."
6.."
He stopped walking, came upon a shiny object that was behind the fallen leaves. Jeff bent down and scraped the leaves off of the shiny object, finding his mouth agape wide, as he realized that it was a hand carved knife.
He picked the knife up and examined all it's diameters. He thought to himself, this was perfect. He then rolled up his sleeves and placed the knife above his right arm. He gently pressed the knife into his skin, blood seeping out, drizzling down his skin and onto the forest floor.
He continued doing this, until a voice that belong to Liu called him to come home.
"Jeff! Jeff? Where are you, little bro!"
Jeff hid the carved knife in his pocket and rolled down his sleeves as he went out of the forest. There was Liu with his worried face expression as Jeff came near him.
"Where were you?" Liu worriedly asked.
"I was thinking." He replied.
Liu said nothing more, except to stare sympathetically at him as he walked Jeff back home.
At night Jeff wandered into the bathroom this time, still holding the same carved knife in his hand. He made sure everybody was asleep before he slipped downstairs and into the bathroom. Without the light turned on, he stared at his reflection in the mirror, before smiling widely and raising the knife up to his cheek.
He then started slowly tracing the knife over his lips, carving a wide bloody smile onto his cheeks. Blood dripped down onto the sink, and splattered on the bathroom floor. He set the knife down and stared at his work. He then tilted his head. Something was missing, he thought.
He picked the knife up again, and closed his eyes, raising one of his eyelids, and rapidly cut his eyelid off with the knife. He did the same step with the other eyelid until he couldn't blink his eyes anymore. The knife was covered in blood red as Jeff slowly grinned widely.
Suddenly, footsteps could be heard on the stairs. Jeff didn't turn around. "Jeff? Honey, is that you?" Jeff didn't reply. The footsteps came closer as Jeff felt his mother's presence beside him. "Honey? What's wrong?" Suddenly, the bathroom light flickered on and his Mother gasped at the sight of his creation in the mirror.
Jeff turned around facing his Mother. "What's wrong mommy?" He asked. "Aren't I beautiful?"
His Mother was still in shock as she took a few steps back. "Y-Yes honey." She stammered. "I-I'll get daddy to see.."
Immediately, his Mother darted up the stairs and slammed the bedroom door. Jeff wasn't stupid. He knew what his Mother was about to do. He swiftly grabbed the dripping bloody knife and crept up the stairs to his parents bedroom. He could hear his Mother talking quickly about what just happened.
Jeff slowly turned the knob and went inside, seeing his Father still in a daze from just being woken up, to his Mother, her eyes and mouth wide open. Jeff could see that his Father's expression was slowly turning into horror. Jeff stepped closer to them and raised the bloody knife.
"Mommy," he whispered. "You lied."
Then he lunged at the both of them.
Screams from both parents were becoming louder as Jeff continued stabbing both of them, until the screams became fainter and fainter, until they faded away. Both parents had their eyes and mouths wide open, as if they could not believe what was just happening.
Suddenly the door creaked open and a faint voice rang in Jeff's ears.
"J-Jeff?"
He knew that voice.
He slowly turned his head. It was the person he guessed.
Liu.
Liu looked horrified, his face was both twisted with anguish and anger. "Why?" He whispered, taking steps backwards.
Jeff slowly stood up and walked towards Liu. His eyes wanted to cry, but they burned too much to do so. "It wasn't my fault Liu.." He whispered. "The liar has to die."
Then he plunged the knife into Liu's body.
