chapter ten .
His eyes fluttered open--half-open, that is--and he was greeted by the soft, warm sunlight which poured through a window somewhere in the room. Yoongi blinked. It took a moment, since he was still incredibly drowsy, but abruptly struck the realization that he wasn't sleeping on a pillow. He wasn't in his bed. He wasn't in a bed at all. but on a couch, with his head resting on the comfortable shoulder of a sleeping, orange-haired boy who was also leaning on him. Yoongi couldn't see Jimin's face. But he could hear his gentle breathing.
Yoongi's heart did a back flip. He couldn't move. If he moved, he would more than likely wake up Jimin, and what excuse would he be able to give for this? He knew he had been the first to fall asleep.
His face was warm, growing warmer still. There was a blanket over both boys' legs--Jimin probably put it there, Yoongi thought. He clutched the blanket with one hand, then, with as little movement as possible, reached towards the little end table on the left side of the couch, hoping to retrieve his phone which he spotted out of his peripheral vision. Farther and farther his fingers stretched. Close. So close. Please don't wake up, Jimin. Please. Please. Please. Ple-
He felt Jimin's head move slightly. A soft, sleepy noise passed through the boy's lips. Yoongi blushed. Jimin's head moved again, this time towards Yoongi, who finally decided to straighten his posture, because not even he could pretend to be asleep forever. He, did, however, act as though he had just woken up, rubbing his eyes tiredly, blinking, then turning to face Jimin. Say good morning. Or ask a question. Don't just freaking stare at him.
"Ah, Yoongi, I-...I'm sorry." Jimin looked nervously towards the window. He gave a shy smile. "You, uh...fell asleep during the movie last night. I thought about shaking you awake, but then I noticed you looked really peaceful, and today's not a school day anyway so I didn't think it would be a problem if you stayed over, but I guess I should have asked you first..." He gasped quietly. "Oh no, what if your family thought I kidnapped you? Or Namjoon?? Would he get mad?"
Yoongi hesitated. If I told Namjoon I slept over at Jimin's, I can't even imagine the thoughts that would go through his head. And something tells me I don't want to know, either.
"I...I'm sure my parents gathered that I stayed here," Yoongi assured him, once again reaching for his phone. "I mean, they knew I was coming here, and I even told them I'd probably be staying late, so I doubt they'd be worried. As for Namjoon..."
He turned on his phone.
You have 9 new messages from Joonie.
You have 11 new messages from Hoseok.
You have 2 new messages from an unknown number.
What?
"You know Hoseok?"
Yoongi flinched, taken aback by the sudden closeness of Jimin's face to his phone, as well as the apparent excitement in the boy's tone as he asked the question. Yoongi swallowed.
"He's my coworker," he said. "You know him?"
Jimin nodded happily, eyes narrowing as they usually did when he showed off big smiles. "He's a friend of mine and Tae's. We were in the same class throughout middle school. He's so funny! I didn't know he went to our high school until the other day. He must've transferred, 'cause I'm sure I would have remembered seeing him in our first and second years. He lost a lot of weight, I was really surprised. Looks incredible now. Don't you think?"
Yoongi gave a slight, hesitant nod. He couldn't help but wonder what Hoseok used to be like, and even what had prompted him to lose as much weight as he did.
Ah, wait. It was probably the bullying.
Forgetting Jimin was hanging over his shoulder, Yoongi decided to check the messages from Hoseok.
Hoseok: goooooooooood moring yoongi!!!
Hoseok: *morning loool
Hoseok: how u doin??
Hoseok: i slept thru my alarm so i didnt go running 2day :,(
Hoseok: guess I'll just have to run an extra mile next time !!
Hoseok: u should go with me sm time yoongi! we could run 2gethr. sounds fun rite?
Hoseok: or if u reeeeeeeeeeally dont wanna exercise, maybs we could just hang out
Hoseok: i still havent repaid u for saving me the other day~ (yoongles my hero <3)
Hoseok: Ooh!! i know, we could go 2 a mall!
Hoseok: I'll treat u 2 anything u want in the food court
Hoseok: pleasee? i wont 4giv myself if u dont let me do this 4 u T_T
"I didn't know you and Hoseok were close friends."
Yoongi turned promptly to Jimin, eyes wide open, only to find him wearing an inscrutable expression. That changed in a split second, however, and Jimin quickly scooted himself over to the far end of the sofa--which wasn't very far, actually. It was a small sofa.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have read those," he said sheepishly. "I, uh...thought you told me Namjoon was your only friend. So I'm surprised that-"
"We're not close," Yoongi blurted, earning him a curious gaze from Jimin. "...this...happened recently. There was an incident, a-and next thing I know he's giving me his number, and I couldn't say no, otherwise I would have felt like the world's biggest jerk..."
"Does this 'incident' have anything to do with the fact Hosoek called you his hero?" Jimin asked, sounding amused, and he covered his mouth to hide it, but a small laugh escaped. Yoongi pouted indignantly.
"Some guy came into our shop while we were working and attacked him. I just punched him in the face, that's all--ah, the attacker, I mean. Not Hoseok. I didn't punch Hoseok in the face. Though admittedly I did think about it a couple times."
Yoongi expected to hear Jimin laughing again, certainly not his silence, which Yoongi discovered in a moment was due to the boy's genuine shock at his statement.
"You did that for him?"
Crap. He's putting me on the spot.
"A-anyone would have done the same in my situation-"
"Yoongi, you're incredible."
"I'm not-"
"You are," Jimin said with feeling. Without thinking he placed a hand on Yoongi's shoulder, and the mint-haired boy surprised himself by not leaping backward at the unannounced physical contact. "The fact that you'd do something like that for someone...I'm sure it took a lot of convincing yourself."
"To punch someone in the face?"
"Well, yeah," Jimin chuckled, "but I meant going out of your comfort zone. Especially if you're someone who doesn't have a naturally aggressive or offensive nature. I gotta say, though, honestly, I wish I could have been there to see you in action. I bet you were super cool, Yoongi."
So sweet. His expression, the tone of his voice as he spoke to Yoongi as though he really had been a hero, whereas that was the last thing Yoongi thought himself to be. If anything, he had seen it as his responsibility, as well as something driven by the guilt of knowing he had hurt Hoseok's feelings prior to the incident. But he was glad he did what he did. For whatever reason...perhaps sympathy...he didn't regret coming to Hoseok's rescue.
Yoongi gave a thoughtful sigh and, pushing the topic aside, finally decided to check who this mysterious unknown number was.
Unknown: ayo ayo its ya boi
Unknown: na ileum-eun j kook
Yoongi: what
Unknown: lol its jungkook namjoon gave me ur #
Of course he did.
"Hey, Yoongi, I'm gonna make breakfast. You hungry?"
"A little," Yoongi replied, not really paying attention. Jimin smiled at him before getting up from the sofa and making his way to the kitchen.
Jungkook: how's ur head
Yoongi: its been over a week now im fine
Jungkook: oh right cool cool
Jungkook: hey u wanna see a funny meme
Yoongi: is it a picture of urself
Jungkook: it wasn't but thats a gr8 idea
Jungkook: [image sent]
"That's enough of that," Yoongi said to himself. He reluctantly checked Namjoon's messages, already predicting what they would be about.
Joonie: hey hey I just got off work talk to me yoongs bby
Joonie: ur at his place by now right
Joonie: whats it like??
Joonie: ask to see his bedroom I dare u
Joonie: yoongs why arent u answering?

Joonie: jk i wouldn't wanna ruin ur friend bonding time
Joonie: also i gave jungkook ur numbr sorry not sorry
Joonie: just give him a chance yoongs hes a cool, funny dude
A part of Yoongi wanted not to respond. Most of him, actually. But he did anyway.
Yoongi: we were working on hw when u texted joon ur so annoying
Yoongi: also it wasn't supposed to be a sleepover
Yoongi: i kinda dozed off during the movie
Seconds passed.
Joonie: ohmygosh is he makin u brkfst now
Yoongi: joon wtf r u outside the window or smth
Joonie: lol no i just figured since u had time to text me
Yoongi: sure u did
Joonie: wheres he live, I'll join u guyz
Yoongi: no
Joonie: ha u cant stop me, i'll just ask jungkook 4 his numbr
Yoongi: dnt u dare
Namjoon didn't respond right away this time, and Yoongi had a feeling his friend was doing exactly as he had said he'd do. Yoongi groaned and turned off his phone, then tossed it aside. He put his feet up on the sofa and hugged his knees.
Minutes later, Jimin came back into the living room, sleeves rolled up, his phone in hand.
"Did you give Namjoon my-"
"It was Jungkook."
"Oh...well, he wanted to-"
"Join us for breakfast."
"...yeah. Is that okay?"
Yoongi, no longer facing Jimin, rolled his eyes, and let out a defeated, "It's fine. He'd invite himself over anyway."
--------
"Jimin, holy crap, who taught you how to cook?"
"YouTube tutorials."
"Sick."
Namjoon had shown up at Jimin's house faster than Yoongi could get up from the couch and walk to the kitchen. Then again, that did take quite a while, and on top of that Namjoon had a car, whereas all Yoongi had were his lazy legs and feet. The three boys were now sitting around a table eating the meal Jimin had just prepared, and Namjoon, as his words strongly suggested, was immensely impressed by Jimin's cooking skills, so much that he wanted to consume everything himself. However he didn't want to be greedy. He was a guest in this house, and besides, if he ate everything, Yoongi, the boy who was too lazy to make anything if the microwave or toaster wasn't involved, would starve.
"Oh, while you're here, Namjoon, I might as well ask you," Jimin began, rising from his seat to take care of his plate. "Would you be interested in hanging out with Yoongi and me?"
Yoongi turned suddenly to Jimin. "Wait, we're doing that today?"
Jimin smiled. "Well, why not? You don't work, I don't work. Namjoon, do you-"
"Nah," the blond said quickly, "we're closed on Sundays. So to answer your question, I'd love to. Just us three?"
"Probably Taehyung, too. He'd get cranky if he found out I didn't invite him. And I'd feel bad if I left Jungkook out, since we haven't really hung out in a while. Ah, and apparently Hoseok's been wanting to do something with Yoongi-"
"Who-seok?" Namjoon raised his eyebrows. He then faced Yoongi, firing a somewhat demanding stare. Yoongi shrunk into himself.
Oh, great. I just remembered I never told him about Hoseok.
"So that makes me, Yoongi, you, Tae, Jungkook, and Hoseok...six people."
Jimin and Namjoon were both staring at him now. Both for different reasons.
"Is that too many people, Yoongi?"
"Yoongs, who the heck is Hoseok?"
