That Would be Enough for Him

Katsuki Bakugou

After getting to scent Izuku again, Bakugou felt more at ease about the training camp and more calm in general. Lately, Izuku had been stirring up emotions and memories that Bakugou had long forgotten and pushed away. for some reason, Bakugou refused to give in and try and pick up any sort of friendship towards the boy, but also could not shake the protectiveness he felt over him. Every time another alpha got near Izuku, it would piss him off to no end. He had to constantly remind himself that the other alphas were not interested in Deku, end even if they were, it really did not matter. There was nothing really set in stone about the nature of his and Deku's relationship. The fact that they had kissed, consciously, two times now, made things even more confusing. They seemed to lose their mind every time they scented each other, ending in some hot make-out session, although Bakugou was still unsure how they even got to where they are now with scenting. It confused him, was Izuku only using him for scenting now? Did Izuku's omegan instincts just so happen to chose him and crave his scent? Bakugou was torn constantly in his head, part of him was glad that they had been so busy to not talk bout what happened, another part really wanted to talk to the boy and figure out what Izuku's real feelings are. After each scenting/make-out session, it would leave Bakugou both concerned for the boy as well as leaving him sexually confused and frustrated. He had never had sexual thoughts towards males before and the fact that Izuku made him feel these feelings, only angered the alpha. He was, however, being nicer to the boy lately and found himself actually wanting Izuku to be happy.

On the bus ride to the training camp, Izuku was sitting with Todoroki and they were chatting it up. Bakugou couldn't help but feel a pinch of jealousy at how comfortable Deku looked with Icy-Hot and how the two were laughing at their conversation. Bakugou kept sneaking glances at Izuku every now and then before he gave up and leaned his head against the window. He did not have anyone sitting beside him, he didn't like people being all cramped up next to him anyways, so it was fine. Bakugou pulled out his phone and plugged in his earphones, tucking the buds in his ears and turning on his favorite playlist. Bakugou listened to his music in silence, enjoying the lyrics swarming his ears, but his mind was elsewhere. His eyes roamed over to Izuku again, he noticed a small, run-down All Might key-chain hanging from his backpack sitting on the floor.

"Kacchan! You came!" The 7 year old Izuku cheered happily in his All Might jumpsuit. It was Izuku's birthday and his mother had asked if Bakugou could come spend the night. Izuku did not have many friends and he 'only wanted to have a sleepover with his best friend, Bakugou.'

"Of course I did, Zuku!" The small blonde boy came running over to hug his friend.

"You boys behave okay?" Bakugou's mom called and smiled at Izuku's mother.

"Happy birthday, Midoriya!" Bakugou's mother waved and patted Izuku's head before a very eager Izuku had grabbed Bakugou's hand and was dragging him off towards the living room.

"Thank you, Mrs. Bakugou!" Izuku cheered and the two boys disappeared into the living room. Izuku was bouncy as usual and his green ringlets were bouncing around his chubby face. The two boys spent most weekends together, both boys having spare clothes at the other's house in case they got dirty or needed to sleep over. Izuku ran over to a small bag in the floor and grabbed it, running back to Bakugou and flopping down on the floor, giggling.

"Here! For you!" Izuku smiled brightly.

"Tsk, it's your birthday, not mine." the older boy said but smiled at his friend. Izuku was holding a green bag out to him and Bakugou took it gently, a small blush on his cheeks.

"I wanted to get you something too, Kacchan!" The smaller boy whined and Bakugou chuckled and ruffled Izuku's hair.

"Thanks." He said and opened the bag. Inside was a very soft looking jumpsuit. After pulling it out, he noticed it was the exact same All Might pajama jumpsuit that Izuku was wearing. Bakugou's face flushed a little and Izuku tiled his head.

"D-do you like it? W-we match now!" Izuku said, obviously getting worried that his friend did not like the gift. Izuku's family was quite wealthy and Bakugou's family was not. They had what they needed to get by but did not have a lot to splurge with. He bit his lip, the smaller gift that he had in a little box for Izuku seemed rather lackluster now. Bakugou pulled together a smile and nodded his head.

"I love it, Zuku! Thank you." Bakugou said and Izuku squealed and threw himself at Bakugou, hugging him and nuzzling into his neck. Bakugou hugged him back before pulling away and reaching behind him for his gift.

"It's not much, but here." Bakugou seemed nervous handing over the much smaller gift. Izuku's eyes lit up and he smiled. Handing the gift over, Izuku popped open the lid and moved some wrapping paper around and pulled out an All Might key-chain. All Might was in his hero outfit, posing and showing off his amazing smile. Izuku's mouth hung open and he squealed again, throwing himself back on the older boy, toppling him to the floor.

"I love it Kacchan!!" The boy giggled and nuzzled into his warm friend, Bakugou relaxed and just laughed at how the younger boy had managed to topple them both over. Izuku's mom walked in along with Bakugou's mother and snapped a photo of the boys, warm smiles on their faces.

"Alright boys, it's dinner time." Izuku's mother said and the green eyed boy shot up, holding out his key-chain.

"Look what Kacchan got me!" He said proudly, waving his gift for their mothers to see.

Bakugou's eyes were glued to the little figurine attached to Izuku's bag. He had kept it after all those years? Bakugou gritted his teeth and looked out the window, watching the city fly by in a blur. He closed his eyes and leaned his head against the bumpy window frame. What had happened to them? Bakugou hated the fact that he was an alpha. It changed so much about him, his biology making him domineering and then those years of alpha schools turning him into some cold and power-hungry beast. On top of that, his quirk was strong and schools were recruiting him. An alpha with a powerful quirk was all the rage, he had the ability to go far in the hero world. But at what cost? Bakugou remembered when he turned 15 and was enrolled in a new boarding school for alphas with quirks.

It was early in the morning and Bakugou and his roommate Kirishima were just waking up from their first day at the new school. This place was like a military school, they had full guardianship over the boys there and had one goal in mind, they wanted to train powerful alphas to go into the military or hero work. Bakugou's mother insisted that he go to this school, she had saved up all her money to send him there, Bakugou could not refuse his mother.

Their days were spent in combat training and lessons on history, science, and biology. The alphas had extensive education on alpha, beta, omega biology and were beginning their pheromone training. That training was torturous to the group of young, maturing alphas. Being thrown into a room and exposed to omega scents over and over had crippled some of the alphas. Sending some young boys into rut and others into frenzies of lustful instinct. This was the first time Bakugou had been exposed to this kind of thing, but he was strong. He was top of his class naturally and had no trouble in combat training. Him and Kirishima got close and sparred together often.

The one thing that broke Bakugou was when there was one alpha boy in the boarding school that had fluffy green curls and freckles. He did not look totally like Izuku, his eyes were golden, not the familiar emerald green. Bakugou tried to be friends with the boy, seeming drawn to the familiarity of this other boy's appearance. The boy seemed to be friendly and the two got close, and after a while Bakugou told his new friend about how he resembled his friend from home, Izuku. Bakugou showed him where he kept the photo from Izuku's 7th birthday party at and told him stories of how they used to be joint at the hip. Only for a few days later to come into his room and see the boy he had gotten to know, with his curly green hair and narrowed golden eyes, ripping up the photos Bakugou had. Yelling about how he was weak for holding onto those attachments and that alpha's need to forget the weak things in life in order to make it to the top. Something snapped in Bakugou and he beat the hell out of the boy, tears pouring down his face until Kirishima came in and pulled him off the bloodied boy. From that day on, Bakugou's demeanor changed and he was cold, drawn into himself, and prone to fights and violent outbursts. He had found it better to be alone than worry about extras getting in his way or causing any more distress. He was a goddamn A class alpha for fuck sake. He did not need anyone to succeed in life.

Bakugou was snapped out of it when he felt someone sit beside of him. His head whipped around ready to cuss out whoever decided to sit their ass in his seat.

"Hey Kacchan." Izuku said quietly. Izuku pointed around the bus where almost everyone was either asleep or listening to their music. Bakugou noticed that Todoroki was also asleep, leaned into the window. He pulled his earphones from his ears and rolled his eyes.

"What are you doing siting here then?" Bakugou asked, keeping his voice low. Izuku smiled a bit and got comfortable in the seat.

"I just had a feeling you weren't sleeping so I wanted to come sit with you." Izuku shrugged and rested back against the seat, Izuku's knee brushed Bakugou's leg but neither one pulled away from the touch. Izuku just smiled softly and closed his eyes. Neither one of them wanted to really say anything, they just sat in the silence of the bus, every now and then a bump in the road making the to boys lean on each other, but neither really cared. Bakugou peaked over at the boy beside him and watched as his face slowly relaxed into sleep. His breathing evened out and his lips parted as he breathed. Another turn of the bus made Izuku slump over, leaning his head on Bakugou's shoulder. The blonde tensed a bit and looked around frantically thinking that people were watching, but no one was. Everyone was asleep. Bakugou sighed and sat still, not wanting to wake the sleeping boy that was using him as a pillow. There was a peacefulness in the air that relaxed the blonde, something familiar about the way Izuku's locks brushed against Bakugou's cheek and the smell of apples, sugar, and honey. Familiarity and comfort causing a pain in his stomach that he refused to acknowledge. It brought up too many memories of the guy Bakugou used to be, before the hormones and alpha instincts, before the special schools and moving locations 10 times in 5 years, before he changed and pushed away everyone that was ever close to him, including the sleeping boy pressed into his side, snoring softly in his ear. It was too much and Bakugou pushed it away. Instead, he leaned his head on top of the soft curls and closed his eyes as well. Maybe, Bakugou thought, maybe this is some cruel joke karma is playing. Paying him back for all the years he spent being an ass hole, stealing from stores, beating kids up who looked at him wrong, that one time he used his quirk against Izuku, this is all punishment. What kind of sick world does that to someone and then throws their ex best friend into the same hero school, makes him an omega, and the only omega that Bakugou has ever reacted to before? What kind of sick joke is this?

Bakugou sighed, still with his eyes closed he tried to push away the nagging thoughts and tried to get some rest. This week will be hard on us all, we all need to be prepared and well rested. This is just another step all heroes must take in order to get where we all want to be. Bakugou fell asleep, thinking about what awaits in the training camp and day-dreaming about his childhood, before, when things were good and Bakugou actually had friends and people he cared about, before he shut the world out. Those memories were enough to keep him going, he did not need anything else, he could live off the fond memories of his childhood and remember them as they pass. That would be enough for him.
