Confrontation

Izuku Midoriya

Izuku was mortified as he walked back into class later than normal. He was panting from sprinting across campus to get there. After a very awkward entrance into class, he handed Aizawa his late note and shuffled to his seat.

Everyone was staring at him, except Bakugou. He thought over Midnight's suggestions and knew he needed to talk to Bakugou about what had happened.

He was not sure why he felt the way he did but he did not necessarily want Bakugou to be his mate. They had not even been around each other for a few years, they knew nothing about each other.

What had happened was strictly sexual and driven by lust. But underneath it all, he felt that familiar coil in his stomach, telling him that he did want Bakugou to like him. After all, all those years ago, Izuku had been enthralled by Bakugou.

He was his other biggest hero, second to All Might. Bakugou was strong, and was a protector to the smaller boy. They had a lot in common all those years ago, then one day it suddenly changed.

He remembered the exact day.

"Hey Kacchan!"  The little green haired boy ran through the school parking lot towards Bakugou. He was 11 years old and Bakugou was 12. The two boys were inseparable for the past few years. Something felt off when he was around Kacchan lately. Today was the worst of them all though.

"Hey wait up!" Izuku called and caught up to the blonde boy. There was a breeze and Izuku sniffed the air and leaned in, nuzzling his face in Bakugou's neck, an act that both boys did regularly as children, when they did not know their secondary genders yet.

It had become a calming ritual that the boys did when one was upset, neither really knew much about scent glands or scenting, but they just knew that when one was distressed they could copy what their parents did and rub necks.

Today was different though, Bakugou smelt different. Like burnt caramel

When Izuku nuzzled him, the blonde boy shoved Izuku hard, throwing him to the ground.

"Don't do that anymore!" He screamed at his friend on the ground. Izuku's eyes were wide and teary.

"W-why'd you push me, Kacchan..." Izuku sniffled and Bakugou glared at him.

"Shut up, you cry baby." His eyes held a glare but softened when a few tears fell form Izuku's eyes. He knelt down and sat beside his crying friend. The urge to reach out and hug the crying boy was overwhelming, but Bakugou refused. Izuku dried his eyes and rubbed his face before leaning over and trying to nuzzle against Bakugou again. This time, Bakugou only flinched and tensed up, but he let it happen. Both boy's seeming to calm down a bit from before and Izuku stayed nuzzled into the nape of his friend's neck.

"W-what's wrong Kacchan..." Izuku mumbled and pulled away, looking at his distressed friend, he could smell the distress rolling off him. Izuku knew that a few day's ago was his 12th birthday and that he would be getting tested to find out his secondary gender.

Izuku forgot to ask about it but now felt as if he might have been given bad news. He knew that Bakugou wanted to be an alpha, he wanted to be strong and tough, traits usually given to alphas. Maybe Kacchan didn't present as an alpha?

"I- I presented as an alpha on my birthday... but I feel so different... I don't like how I feel. I wanna punch things... and... and my quirk is so unstable. I set my sheets on fire this morning!" Kacchan frowned and as if on cue, his palms began to flicker and spark. Izuku jumped back some and then frowned.

If Bakugou was an alpha, then what is wrong?

Isn't this what he had wanted his whole life?

"W-what is going on? Does your mom know what is going on?" Izuku scooted back towards Bakugou, he only shook his head and clenched his fists.

"Mom says that every alpha has different traits and that mine make it harder for me to control my instincts. She is sending me to a special alpha school starting next week." Bakugou said and Izuku saw tears brimming in his friend's eyes, they won't be going to the same school anymore.

Kacchan never cried, but the tears in his eyes were threatening to spill over and make an appearance.

Izuku threw his arms around his friend's neck and hugged him tightly. The smaller boy climbed in his lap. The two were both used to being clingy with one another. They were best friends, almost brothers. They always wanted to be around each other and recently, Izuku's mother had been keeping him away from Bakugou.

Now it was making more sense as to why she had not been letting Bakugou come over to hang out like normal. His mom had always despised alphas.

Maybe she knew that Bakugou would present as an alpha and wanted to keep him away from that life.

Bakugou let the boy sit in his lap and hugged him back for a moment before gently pushing him away.

Bakugou paused and them lurched forward, innocently nuzzling his face into his friend's neck and Izuku felt the tears from Bakugou running down his skin, landing on his shirt.

Bakugou moved the younger boy off his lap after a moment, and he stood up, glancing once more at Izuku before walking away.

Why did that feel like a goodbye?

____________________________________

Because it was a goodbye.

A goodbye to the friend he had once known. After that day, Bakugou was not the same. He would shove away Izuku every time he tried to come close.

He started calling him names, like 'nerd' and 'stupid' along with more harsh ones that would be said when Izuku tried to comfort his friend.

The day before Bakugou started his new school, Izuku tried to reconcile things. He remembers clinging to his fiery friend and desperately trying to nuzzle into his neck for comfort.

Bakugou started crying and sent a blast directly at Izuku, this was the first time he had used his quirk against him on purpose.

He called Izuku bad names and told him to never touch him again, all the while tears were running rapid down his cheeks. After that day, Bakugou went to a new school.

6 months later, Bakugou moved houses. 1 year later, the two stopped staying in contact with one another.

It was a slow and torturous process that left them both hurt. Bakugou's new life had him busy, while Izuku had to spend his 12th birthday getting delivered news that he presented as an Omega.

His mother pulled him from school, into private schools, and forced him into a life of secrecy, never letting anyone know he was an omega. Soon, he forgot about Bakugou, for the most part.

*Ding Ding Ding*

The sound of the class bell snapped Izuku out of his trance. He hadn't though about that day in a long time. It was almost as if he had spent so much time trying to forget, that he actually did.

Until today. He noticed the class had gotten up and most have left the room, Bakugou was sitting in the seat in front of him and was looking at the boy with curiosity. Izuku's eyes widened and his face went red.

"K-Kacchan.." Izuku stumbled for his words and looked down at his hands, balling them into fists.

"W-we need to talk.... now, if you can." Izuku said, never looking up at the boy in front of him.

"Whatever." Bakugou replied and waited for Aizawa to leave the room. He threw a knowing glance at Izuku before shutting the door. Did Aizawa find out through Midnight or something? Fuck. There was a long silence between the two and Bakugou was only glaring at him.

"Spit it out, nerd." Bakugou huffed and crossed his arms. Izuku whimpered, suddenly feeling 10 ties smaller than he already was. This was the most embarrassing thing he had ever done.

"K-Kacchan... About last week.... I'm sure you already know by now that I am an omega..." He paused and Bakugou exhaled loudly, prompting him to keep talking.

"I just wanted to apologies for getting you caught up in that..." Izuku mumbled and bit his lip, still looking down at the ground, his green curls bounced in his face, making a curtain of sorts to shield him from his embarrassment.

"You were in heat, it's not like you could control it, shit-nerd." Bakugou gruffed.

"Midnight wanted us to talk... She said there are some issues that need to be sorted out.... b-because y-you scented me and c-claimed m-me..." The last few words were barely a whisper and Bakugou was silent. He could feel the tension rolling off them both in the empty classroom.

"What about it?" Bakugou said through clenched teeth. Izuku looked up, letting his hair fall out of his face and looked at Bakugou's scrunched up face.

"W-well after this morning when you scented me again, Midnight explained some things that I did not know about alphas.... I am sure you know already what I am talking about...." Izuku sighed and hung his head again. He did not want to talk about this.

"Yeah I know, nerd." His voice was short and cold but did not sound like he was trying to be rude. He almost sounded sad.

"Midnight said if we wanted the scent mark to go away that we just need to stay away from each other for about a week and avoid contact. The scent will leave our bodies and then we wont have to worry about the constant need to s-scent one another..." Izuku explained and watched as Bakugou's face twisted up before it landed back into a scowl.

"They also contacted both our parents about what happened... I am sure you know already though... I am sure you just want to go back to normal, so, we should just avoid each other for a week until this shit goes away." Izuku said again before standing up and grabbing his backpack. Bakugou watched him with careful eyes and nodded.

"Yeah, it is best if we forget this ever happened. I am not gonna accidentally end up mates with some stupid nerd." His words were cold and Izuku's breath hitched in his throat.

A small whimper escaped his lips before he coughed to cover it up.

He did not say anything else.

Izuku left the room quickly and then ran to the bathroom, throwing his bag down and gasping for air. Had he been holding his breath? It did not matter, it felt like knives were thrown into his chest.

Bakugou's words were cold. But he could not blame him. It was Izuku's heat that had brought this all on.

After spending a few minutes catching his breath and composing himself, Izuku decided to go home for the rest of the day and not go to the dorms.

He knew he would have to be speaking to his mother about all this anyways and with how his day had been going, he would not make it through without going ahead and ripping the band-aid the rest of the way off.

He called a taxi and took a trip back home. He just wanted this to be over with already. Bakugou had told him what he wanted, or more so what he did not want.

He did not want to be mate with him, although Izuku shuddered at the idea of being mates with an angry alpha like Bakugou anyways. It was probably the hormones making him feel this way.

He would just call the doctor and ask to be put on heat suppressants and hopefully he will not have to go through this anymore. Maybe things will go back to normal and him and Kacchan can go back to at least being friends like they were all those years ago.

Maybe, just maybe.

Izuku dozed off in the taxi and slept for the entire hour long drive back home. Hopefully his mother is not too angry at him for all this mess. He is sure that she would understand though, since she is an omega too.

When Izuku arrived home, his mother seemed surprised to see him. She also had a knowing look in her eyes, she looked sad. Izuku went inside and sat down on the sofa beside his mom.

It was a long night, they both cried and he was scolded for being reckless so close to his heat.

His mother was furious at Bakugou and made it clear that she did not approve of her son trying to be friends with this alpha, but Izuku quickly checked her and told her how he was old enough to make his own friends and that Bakugou did not mean to do what he did.

They both were slaves to their biology and he did not blame Bakugou for his reaction to his heat.

His mother was not happy but she knew her son was stubborn.

She gave him a warning and told him to be careful, she even made him go to the doctor and get his heat suppressant along with birth control pills before returning back to the dorms.

She told him that she did not approve of the friendship, not that him and Kacchan had a friendship anymore, but she told him to be safe and to not do anything she wouldn't do.

Izuku popped a suppressant in his mouth as he waited for his taxi to arrive to take him back to school. The suppressants are supposed to dull his scent, covering the majority of what he smells like as an omega.

His crisp apple scent being driven away by chemicals, for the sake of other's sanity and his own safety. He hated being on suppressants, but he was ordered to take them by his mother, along with the birth control pills.

Izuku was happy living his own life, until coming to the Hero Academy and being thrown into this hell of a situation. It was like those feelings of being abandoned by his best friend bubbled up all over again, only this time it felt worse.

Like a limb was missing, he could still smell Bakugou's scent on him and it made him want to both cry and smile.

He felt childish and idiotic on the drive back to campus, he also felt a loneliness that bloomed inside his chest.

The feeling of loss, and something else.
