❹. Room With a Moose

After hanging out with Dib for the second time, you finally got his phone number so you both could exchange text messages.

As soon as you got home you decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

You: hey dib!! sorry if i'm bothering you, just thought i'd try out the texting to make sure i really got the right phone number ;owo

Dib: of course you did! I told you my number several times! Plus this is Dib after all, so... yep. Right number. By the way, you aren't bothering me, feel free to text me anytime you see something!

You: yep, of course i will!!

After having that conversation, you turned off your phone. Tomorrow was going to be a pain so you figured you'd get some rest.

However, what followed was going to surprise everyone.

That morning, it was pouring rain. Unfortunately, you didn't have any umbrellas with you at the moment, and you were in the middle of going to school. You figured now would be a good time to ask Dib for help.

So you called him. And he picked up immediately.

"(Y/n)!! Is everything okay??" Dib shouted through the speakers. You heard voices in the background, he must be at school already...

"Dib, I'm out in the rain." You said simply. He fumbled around before answering.

"What!? You'll get sick!" He shouted once more.

"I-I know! I was on my way to school when it started, and I don't have my umbrella." You explained.

"O-oh! I'll be right there!" Dib responded, and with that he hung up.

You figured it'd be best to keep walking instead of waiting there in the rain.

When you reached the entrance of the school, you saw Dib walking out with his umbrella in hand, ready to run out there and look for you. But he was surprised to see you already at the school.

You walked up to him. "H-hey..."

He shrieked. "(Y/n)! I'm so sorry, I should've got there faster! Now you might get sick and it'll be all my fault and-" he paused his worrying when he heard you simply say, "it's alright."

"I'll be fine." You continued. He slowly nodded.

"I-I can give you my jacket?" Dib offered. You shook your head.

"No thank you. I don't want to inconvenience you." You replied calmly.

"B-but it's not a problem really-!" He persisted.

"Dib, it's okay." You smiled.

The two of you walked to class together, and by then you were mostly dry. Thankfully it was warm inside the school.

But then, the surprise...

The intercom voice spoke:
"There will be a field trip, and everyone in Ms. Bitters' class is allowed to go! Except for Zim. Doo de doo!"

You were in shock. That voice, it was so familiar... not only that, but a field trip, and Zim was the only kid not invited to go? Something was fishy... you could tell Dib was suspicious too.
Because he said exactly what you thought. "Something's fishy..."

He whispered it to you, and you nodded in agreement. "Definitely..."

When the both of you got on the bus, all of the kids avoided Dib like he was a disease.
But you, on the other hand, stayed as close to him as you could. You weren't going to sit through this alone, especially not when something is awry...

Dib seemed grateful to have you by his side the whole time. He even kept referring to you as his 'investigation partner', which you thought was nice.

"Dib and (y/n), sitting in a tree..." one of the girls on the bus mocked the both of you.

"H-hey! Stop that...!" You tried to protest, but she was persistent in making you both feel embarrassed.

"Just ignore her, (y/n)." Dib said simply. You admired how he just... didn't take crap. He was automatically the coolest person, you decided.

"Yeah... okay.." you replied. This time, you were just trying to focus on Dib. He was the only person you could care about right now. You were even starting to think... maybe that girl is right... maybe, you do like Dib.

"Hey, (y/n), look at this!" You focused your attention on what Dib was saying just then.

"Hm? What is it?" You asked.

He pointed out the window. "We passed that same dog, multiple times! There's gotta be something wrong with that!"

Your eyes lit up. "You're right..."

"See!?" He shouted. Just then, he jumped up on the seats of the bus. "Everyone, look! We've passed that same dog for a while now! Something's up!"

"Oh yeah? I like that dog, Dib." A huge kid said.

"But, but (y/n) agrees with me! Right?" He looked at you for back up.

You looked around. Everyone was waiting for you to answer. So, you got up too.

"Y-yes! Dib is right!" You stood up for him.

Everyone began to mutter.
"You're just saying that because you like him!" That same girl from earlier. You wanted to strangle her now.

"..." but you couldn't reply. You just sat back down, and hung your head low.

Dib furrowed his eyebrows in concern for you. He told you to just ignore the comments, but you seemed like a sensitive type. So, he'd defend you no matter what.

"Hey! Shut up! Can't you see you're hurting her feelings?" Dib shouted back at the girl.

Everyone started complaining to him, but he ignored them. Instead, he sat back down next to you. "Hey, um..."

You suddenly wrapped your arms around him in a hug. "Thank you for defending me..." you muttered.

He hugged you back. "N-no problem..."

"But hey... I think we need to have a talk with the bus driver. He must be insane or something if he's driving in a loop!" Dib continued.

You nodded. "Yeah..."

He grabbed your hand and took you with him down the aisle. Something that was weird, the driver was closed off from the passengers with a door... that was new.

When you got past that, you found out; ths driver was just a robot? And...

Zim. He was on a monitor in front of us. Not only that, but... there it was.

That thing with him, it was the robot dog from before!!

"Y-you! Dog thing!" You pointed at him, and he pointed back.

"Heeey! I know you! Cute girly from down the street!" He squealed.

"Cute...?" you blushed.

"A-are you really flattered by that?" Dib asked in shock.

"Anyway! My plan!" Zim said, frustrated that he was losing everyone's attention.

"Not only are we in space right now. There are two different routes for this ship. You can either go back home, or...

...to a room with a moose!"
He cackled.

"Wait. What's so bad about that?" You asked.

"Allow me to show you." Zim grinned.

He played a clip of a moose, in a white room, just... eating... it horrified you and Dib.

"Anything but that!" Dib begged.

Zim cackled once more before turning the monitor off. You both shared looks filled with despair.

Until, of course, and idea sparked for Dib.

"I got it! We can just move everybody to one side of the bus, and the bus will move to the hole that will take us home, then poof! Problem solved!"

"The only problem is... they may not listen to us." You sighed.

"We'll just see about that." Dib challenged. Unfortunately, you were right.

"C'mon guys! Please, it's for the sake of humanity!" Dib begged.

"Why should we listen to you? You're crazy." A girl in the back shouted. Everyone else agreed in hums.

"Because...!" Dib tried to come up with a reason that they'd go along with, but you decided to take matters into your own hands.

You got up on a seat.
"Just move to the other side of the bus already before I lose my mind. You all say Dib is crazy but you're no better by bullying him!" You shouted, as loud as you could.

Everyone shared glances, and looked back at you. A few of them rolled their eyes, but they moved like you asked.

You sighed in relief as the bus moved in the right direction. You were saved.

You and Dib got off the bus. "Wow, (y/n)! I didn't think you'd shout like that. I'm impressed that they listened to you."

"Y-yeah? Thank you... I was surprised too." You laughed a little, Dib joining in.

"You saved us back there, thank you." He said. "I never could've done that on my own."

You blinked. "R-really? I-I guess, that makes me a pretty good partner, huh?" You smiled.

He blushed a little. "Yep. Couldn't ask for a better partner... than you, (y/n)."
