Kai isn't the sort of impulsive type. In fact, he isn't the type to run away from things, to do stuff that's unplanned, or to cause disruption. He's actually always been a bit quiet, sort of just trying to go through the motions and get out of high school. However, about two years ago, he figured out his gender identity and since then, his demeanor has changed. He's gotten bolder and become more confident in himself- or at least acted like he's confident- and has an aura of being a party person. Still an introvert at heart, Malakai has begun to try and reach out to more people, really having never made many close friends prior years of high school. Just a generally friendly and good natured guy, he may be quiet, but his loyal and very trust-worthy (and trusting on that note). Although Kai isn't the one to try and start a convo first, he really does want to make friends on this "road trip" altho he's a bit nervous as well, but when he opens up his personality bubbly and cheerful; he's quite the optimist. There's a lot of 'nevers' on his list: he's never kissed anyone; never gotten drunk; never gotten high; never smoked; never skinny dipped; never really even flirted before. He's currently just trying to look for a good time, something to go out with a bang with for his senior year, and hopefully turn those 'nevers' into 'i have'.

The short answer to why he's running away? He wants to end his senior year with a blast. And what better way than to get out of his comfort zone, bond with people he doesn't know well, and get out there on his own for once! Long answer?... You'll have to find out for yourself.

a sock monkey he's had since he was little and lowkey would die on this trip without although he may not ever take it out of his pillow since he's embarrassed about it; another set of clothes and his pjs

Reputation:

the quiet but kind kid- not many expected him to tag along cause he seems to have a lot of his shit pulled together, including where he's planning on going to college to get his degree in video game design. but he's chill and easy-going so he has basically no beef with anyone (not any he knows of at least). he's only been going to the same highschool as the rest of these kids so it wouldn't be a surprise if some of them had never met him before until now

Backstory:

Malakai's mother and father had him out of state and he grew up a long ways away from where they now live. But, two years ago, Kai's dad got a job in the city they're now at and after many long nights of arguing and discussion over whether or not to move, Kai's parents teamed up against him and voted on moving to where Kai's dad now works. The pay is very good and they've been getting more money but the move was very stressful for Kai, especially considering that he was trying to figure out his gender during all of this... which added to the stress of loosing his support circle of friends when he had to move. His parents don't support him- that's very obvious- but they aren't blatantly transphobic so that's at least something. But it's been hard at home for Kai since moving here since his parents continue to deadname him, use the wrong pronouns, and don't seem enthusiastic at all to discuss his gender with him or listen to what he wants to tell them about it. He's out to everyone by now, and since moving to the school has always gone by Malakai although there's still the moments when a teacher (usually a substitute) calls out the name he doesn't go by anymore and he HATES that. Malakai wasn't particularly planning on going, he thought it was too big of a leap, of a trip, but something changed with him during the past few weeks and it made him decide to go.

Fun Facts:

- knows a fair amount of Japanese because of his mother. his mom, Yua (which is also his middle  name, yes), is half Japanese, half Korean, while his dad is part Japanese, part German; this makes Malakai mostly Asian with "a hint of white" as his dad likes to joke

- definitely has kept being transgender a secret. altho he's not ashamed, he's terrified of what other students could think of him if more knew. and so, practically nobody knows- and he prefers to keep it secret. helps a lot that his titties are much smaller and so he'll usually be found wearing baggy clothing so that he can pass as cis
