The Family, The Still, and The Girl

As she walked through the white sand towards the near-approaching forest, she grinned wide and set off in a run.

It was hard, her being in sand, but since she had nothing to carry, she was not too restricted.

As soon as she toppled out of the sand and into the thick, dark, and lush forest, rain began to pour down on her.

Big, wet drops fell and soaked her within minutes.

She just giggled and grinned, and began walking on the very thin line between the desert and the forest, not entering either.

As she walked she began to notice little fish- colorful and amazing little fish- swimming around in the huge raindrops all over the sky. Her jaw dropped a little and she stopped walking to spin around and watch the fish swim through the air.

A few were by her and approached, lightly nudging her. She held out her hand and they bumped and nibbled against it and she giggled again.

After just a few minutes of that she continued walking, beginning to sing softly as she did.

"Spare me your judgements and spare me your dreams..."

Before she could get any further, she spotted a small group of people just a little bit ahead of her, walking on the thin strip of just lush grass between the two climates.

"Hey!" She called out and waved a little, running up to them.

They saw her and smiled friendlily, making a space in their little group of five for her.

As she got closer she examined them.

They wore strong, sturdy clothes, but they looked light and easy to move in. They were clean and smelled nice. Like lilacs.

There were two adults- a male and a female, and three children. There were two girls and one boy.

A family then. She smiled and spent a decent amount of time studying them all.

The father was tall and broad, and looked intimidating but had a friendly smile and a lighthearted attitude. He had a shaved head and some thick five o' clock shadow that suited him. He was carrying the largest pack of them all, and it probably had enough provisions for him alone.

(It seemed as though they all did that.)

He had a weapon in one hand to defend his family, and a Bible in the other to comfort, and nourish himself and his loved ones.

He was a strong-willed, righteous man with a strong sense of moral obligation and justice. He was a good man.

The mother was everything you would expect a mother to be. She was quiet and gentle and caring and helped her children and husband when they needed it.

She was a good deal shorter than her husband but no less of a person. Her hair was dark brown and wavy, the tone of it matching her caring eyes. She looked almost like you would expect a goddess or angel to, but she was only human.

She too carried a pack with her own provisions along with some of her youngest daughters, as well as carrying pots and pans and such. The oldest daughter also had some but the mother had the majority.

In one hand she held another Bible, and in the other she held her youngest daughters hand.

She was a loyal, providing woman with an acute sense of protection and control. She did have hidden stress, though, as most mothers do, but she handled it well.

She was a wise mother.

The oldest daughter looked down at her feet as she walked, walking beside her father, who was in the back of the group.

Weather she was hanging her head in shame or disinterest, the first girl couldn't tell.

She had long, dirty blonde hair that slightly hid her face and brown eyes much like her fathers.

She carried a pack just big enough for her and some of the pans like her mother and seemed to be lost in her mind as she went.

In one hand she held a pencil and a notepad, for writing and drawing distractions for herself and her family. In the other hand she held a sharp, deadly knife to protect her loved ones.

She was fiercely protective, and extremely loving under a thin mask that she often wore. Her mask only showed indifference and selfishness, though. She didn't realise that.

She was a developing woman, and was heading the right direction.

The son- and middle child- walked on the side of his mother that his younger sister was not.

He conversed with her and kept the group happy and lighthearted, telling jokes and stories.

He had dark- almost black- hair and eyes. He was constantly looking out for danger as he talked, but wasn't distracted by it.

His eyes from first glance showed a warm friendliness and love that he would happily share, but a darker side that (with much provoking) would come out and make you regret bringing out.

He carried his pack and in one hand he held a bow (a quiver of arrows on his back) to protect and provide for his family, and in the other hand he held a small box with an instrument in it, to distract and entertain his family.

He was a brilliant young man with unyielding loyalty and a brave, creative heart.

He was still developing, but he was above average and not going to drop anytime soon.

The youngest child walked on one side of her mother, holding her hand and looking around. Soon she would be too old to do so, and would soon have to carry more weight and take it off her mother.

Her big brown eyes looked around curiously and she was constantly pushing her dirty blonde, same-color-as-her-sisters hair away from her face as it fell in.

She talked almost as much as her brother, loving to talk and have fun.

She was a hyper, curious young girl that still had much to learn, but she was approaching the border of maturity and would cross soon.

In the hand that wasn't holding her mothers, she held a fading and falling apart stuffed bear. It was symbolic of her development. Soon she would let go of childish things and grow up, though she would have it easier than her other siblings, because they took most of the work.

She was a blossoming girl, an still needed some work to grow, but was doing well.

After the girl examined them all, finding the oldest daughter remarkably like herself, she walked and talked with them for a long time.

Soon, though, they had to branch off as he grass path between climates- which will now be called the Still- forked to two separate paths.

One led to a long abandoned city and one led to a huge field that the girl could not yet describe, having never seen it.

The family went along the path that led to the indescribable place, while the girl turned and walked straight into the forest and away from the safety of the Still.
