Recognition of Calamity

She tried so hard to stop it; to pretend it wasn't there; to fix it; to prevent it; to go along with it. Many would say that she was in denial, that she couldn't accept things for what they were.

Where in reality, she knew better than anyone. She knew what the weight of what was coming was. She had always known. But she never had known how to prevent it or how to fix it.

She tried so hard to hold it all together. But even the best, strongest people have their limits. They have their point of defeat. And no matter how steadfast they may think they are, everyone has to break at some point. Everyone and everything has it's breaking point.
She had finally reached hers.
As everything began coming down around her, despite her attempts to keep it all up, she began crumpling down with it. She had to submit to the calamity.
As she submitted, it broke her more than it broke anyone or anything else.
By the time the worst of it had passed, she was spent. She had given up. It had been too harsh. Her spirit had been broken. When they looked to her for her to lift them up, she had nothing to lift with.
So they began lifting on their own, remembering how she had lifted them before. They remembered the things she did, the things she said and fixed before she had finally broke.
And thanks to her strength in the past, they had learned to find strength in themselves. They began fixing what they, in the past, relied on her to fix for them.

But when she began waking, and saw that they had become capable, her heart broke.
They didn't realise that she had no purpose other than to fix, to heal and to be the one to be strong, the one that everyone looks to in times of calamity.
They began to grow and move on without her. And she had no purpose. She was proud, but she was still broken, and she couldn't fix herself. And they were gone. They couldn't fix her any more. They had learned too fast.

And so they left her. Heartbroken, unable, and purposeless, until someone as broken as her would find her. Then they could help put each other together, and learn to be strong again, together. And they wouldn't leave each other.

They knew better than to break someone who had already been broken.
