Book Idea
"What? What do you mean? N-No, that can't happen. Wh-what do you- No," I stammered, staring down at the letter in my hands and glancing up at my boss, also the man who gave it to me every once in a while, pure horror written across my face. He shrugged.
"I didn't write it, not my fault," He said casually, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Then who did? Who has the authority to do this!?" I demanded, folding up the letter and putting it in my pocket.
"I don't know, I'm sorry! I don't even know what it says," He said innocently.
"I- I have a family to feed and bills to pay. I- I need this job. Please," I begged, afraid that I wouldn't be able to feed my sons or my husband. I would have to find another job and who knows how long that would take. My husband couldn't work; he had an injury that he had received in the military that had paralyzed his arms so I was the one who always had to work. I didn't mind; I loved my family and would do anything for them and until now I could.
I held in curses as I stormed to my office, gathered my things, and ran out of the company building. Tears were threatening to spill as I reached my car. I set down the box of my nick-knacks on the hood of my car and took a deep breath. I put both my hands on the hood and hung my head low between my shoulders. I closed my eyes and pursed my lips, more afraid than angry. The thought of not being able to take care of my family scared me more than anything. I just needed to get home and start looking for a new job as soon as possible.
When I arrived home at two o' clock in the afternoon in the middle of the week with a box of my personal items and red-rimmed eyes, my husband didn't even have to ask what was wrong. He came up to me as soon as I came in the door and hugged me as best he could. I wrapped my arms around his torso and rested my head on his shirt, closing my eyes tight but not letting tears fall.
"I'm scared, Jared," I said into his shirt, my voice muffled. He kissed the top of my head and I drew in a shaky breath.
"I know, I know..." He replied quietly, resting his chin on my head gently as I hugged him still.
Ignore my drabbles.
