When Jaemin woke up, the first thing he noticed was how amazing he slept. It's always nice experiencing a good night's rest after a tiring day.
Then he noticed how sore his neck felt.
Then he registered the reason for that and shot up screaming upon realization, the action waking the other sleeping figure up.
Jeno groggily opened his eyes, taking a few moments to remember where he was.
Last time he woke up after sleeping, he was on an airplane, almost suffocating from the sickening smell.
The time before that, he was in a luxurious hotel, unable to appreciate that lifestyle for those brief moments due to how angry he was after hearing the news.
He knew he was moving from Korea to America and was honestly a little excited for a fresh new start.
Korea was wonderful, and after his childhood enemy left and he had learned to manage the grief of his father's passing, it had only gotten better. Jeno had easily made many friends, and although school was painfully stressful, he made it through with the fun times he shared with those friends. Unsurprisingly, the attractive male had even found himself a few people to date, both guys and girls because he was bisexual.
It was difficult living in Korea with his sexuality, but his mother was supporting. Plus, those few flings with hot guys was thrilling because they were only able to hook up in private spaces, hearts pounding while needy bodies struggled to get closer.
That was another reason why he was excited to move — he knew the western society in North America was more accepting than the strict, traditional one of Korea. And despite his thrilling flings and fun adventures, life had gotten boring. He was well aware he would move to where his enemy was living but he ignored that, focusing on the positive
Unfortunately, his excitement had been crushed when his mother informed him of the news while they were staying in that hotel. After successfully selling the house and packing up what they needed and could bring to America, they had been staying in a hotel for a few days before their plane departure, frantically organizing everything, planning out what they'd do once they arrived, and ensuring all documents and legal business was sorted out. Jeno had been playing on his phone before going to bed when his mother told him what they'd do when they arrived. She had just gotten off the phone after talking excitedly to someone when she relayed the horror of what would happen after they got off their flight and were in America.
They would be staying over at the household of the one reason why Jeno had any uncertainty or negativity of moving.
Na fucking Jaemin's house was where they'd stay.
Jeno wasn't too sure why he had started hating Jaemin, but ever since that day, they made each other and the people around them miserable. That kid just pissed Jeno off so much!
His ugly hair, and his ugly face, and his ugly smile made Jeno tick, and every time he laid eyes on Jaemin he wanted to rip his throat out. The younger, to Jeno, was the type of person that made you so irritated for no particular reason.
So when he found out he was living with that demon, naturally, he'd be pissed off. But Jeno didn't complain as much as he could have. He knew his mother was stressed, and he didn't want to burden her any more than she was already.
When they got off their flight and drove off in a taxi after shoving all their belongings into the trunk with the help of the driver, Jeno felt nervous. Not complaining about his near future had given him time to think, to think as a teenager and not some stupid child.
What if Jaemin changed? What if Jaemin forgot their past and would be kind? What if staying with Jaemin wouldn't be as bad as he had been anticipating?
Whatever the case, Jeno was anxious to find out.
When they pulled up to his house, Jeno marveled for a bit at how nice it was. It was cream colored, accents of blue and white easily making the house the most attractive on the street. Windows and aesthetic symmetry made it so appealing, and it was quite large. Not the size of a mansion, of course, but definitely larger than average.
The front lawn was perfect, lush grass trimmed nicely, adorned with round stepping stones that led to presumably the backyard — which Jeno heard had a pool. The garden that lined the base of the house seemed to go around the whole perimeter, obviously well taken care of, bright flowers blooming. The front door was a simple white with blue framing, matching the garage right beside it.
Everything was right out of some fairytale, but then Jeno turned his focus to the people standing in front of the front door.
Mrs. Na had looked the same, just slightly aged, as she rushed to greet Mrs. Lee.
But Jaemin. Jaemin had changed a lot.
His facial features were still recognizable, but they suited him more now that he had grown. He had dyed his hair to light caramel, the biggest change that looked perfect on him. Jeno knew his bright, nicknamed 'healing' smile was still there, but all he could see at that time etched on Jaemin's face was a frown.
If it was any other person, Jeno probably would have said he was hot, but no. It was clear Jaemin was still the same old asshole.
And that had been proven correct with all the events following Jeno's getting out of the car.
Now back to the present time, Jeno recollected his thoughts and focused his gaze on Jaemin's angry expression.
"I slept on you!" the younger shrieked after kicking Jeno off his bed. "I am such a hoe!"
The older caught himself before falling to the ground and stood up. "No shit, I wouldn't doubt the high amount of STDs you have." Jaemin threw him a sharp glare, which Jeno ignored. "Look, it's too early in the morning for your shit. I had a great sleep so shut the fuck up."
"I did too!" Jaemin snapped. "But I couldn't give a shit, get the hell out of my room! And take your fucking phone."
Jeno grabbed the said device and walked to the door. But before he fully exited through the doorway, he turned back around. "Only if you let me watch Netflix and play Fortnite on your TV."
Jaemin groaned, creating the most exasperated sound Jeno had ever heard. "Fine, just get out! You've infected my room with your diseases."
The other snorted. "Bitch, you unpacked and touched all my damn clothes, I'm pretty I'll be getting your diseases."
Jeno left the room, yawning as he made his way into the bathroom to freshen up. He changed into casual clothes, then headed downstairs where Jaemin had already arrived to.
Mrs. Na and Mrs. Lee looked wide awake and ready to conquer the day, probably having taken a walk or whatever moms do in the early morning. They greeted their sons cheerfully, receiving tired, dead-sounding "Good morning"s, and the four ate with the same atmosphere as the previous night.
By the time Jeno arrived back in his room, it was half past 10am, and he was in slight fury. His mother pulled him aside after breakfast to have that "talk" she promised and Jeno didn't want to recount the long lecture.
He had to be a good guest and be nice to Jaemin because, and Jeno directly quotes from his mom, "he is just such a cute sweetheart, don't you see it?"
Wrong.
False.
Incorrect.
Jeno just saw a jackass.
But that didn't matter. The raven-haired spent the entire day inside his room while the mothers were shopping and Jaemin was doing dumb shit. Jeno played on his phone, chatted over text with his friends from Korea, and he even played one of his guitars, strumming and practicing fingerstyle while singing along.
When he was playing, he was unaware of the slightly open door. Jaemin was walking to his room when he heard the music, leading him to peer in through the crack and see Jeno's eye smile while playing beautifully.
The younger would have enjoyed it, but instead whipped around to his own bedroom.
Now he knew that his enemy was passionate about music, just like him.
First Fortnite, then Netflix —well those two were obvious, what teenage boy didn't like them — but now music and singing?
What the actual fuck.
