Thomas chuckled as he watched his one year old son play hide and seek with a sheet. The twenty-nine year old man yawned as he finished hanging up the laundry.
"Buwerfwy!" His son, Virgil, shouted as he tried to chase a monarch butterfly around the garden. Thomas smiled and picked him up.
"Yeah, butterfly." He gently spun around with Virgil in his arms, being careful not to drop the boy.
"Dada, buwerfwy!" Virgil pointed to another butterfly that was on a flower. Thomas slowly walked towards it and helped Virgil get a close look at it.
"Isn't it pretty Virge?" Thomas asked. The boy in his arms clapped and repeated his favorite word.
The single father brought his son to the shady part of the garden, not wanting the young child to get sunburned or over heated. He watched Virgil crawl around in the cool grass, occasionally walking when his chubby legs didn't fail him.
After a while of playing, Virgil games and rubbed his eyes. Thomas yawned as well and chuckled. "Nap time Virgey."
"No nap Dada!" Virgil replied, curling up on his father's lap. Thomas laid down in the grass and laid Virgil on top of his chest. "Me not tired.."
"Butterfly, butterfly, butterflies fly away..." Thomas sang quietly. Virgil yawned again and began to fall asleep. Thomas, himself, was starting to doze off. "Butterfly, butterfly, butterflies fly away..."
They both took a nap under the shade on the oak tree in their garden on that hot summer evening. A butterfly watched them from the Rose bushes near the tree.
