girls are guns - violets crush

"It should.... be the next right" Monica says, extending her words mid-sentence. The phone in her hand glistened in the sun as she swiped out of Apple Maps and returned her focus to the road ahead with a smile. Her hair was in its natural state, curly, as she sits up from her leaned back state and unbuckles her seatbelt.

"The new campus looks nice. I'm gonna miss Arlington ,but it is what it is. Can't stop me from getting my senior medal" Avarie June responds, her focus shifting and evaluating the building in front of her. She drives through the black gate to be greeted by a big brick campus with several stained glass windows. The school maintained their greenery, an obvious hint at its wealth. Excitement pumped through her body, resting in her heart.

Somerville High School would be her home for the whole summer. Camp normally was in Arlington, her hometown just counties away, however this year the school needed repair - hence the girls now being in Somerville.

The school had dorms across the street, AJ and Monica were lucky enough to be paired together (which worked great, just like their friendship).

Arriving at the front of the dorms, AJ puts the car in park as they both step out of the car. They pop the trunk and grab one suitcase and one duffle bag each, then begin making their way towards the front door. A group of boys join behind them as a wave of overwhelming AXE body spray begins to linger in the air, and clinking hockey sticks clatter around.

"Coach didn't mention that it would be co-ed" Monica whispers, biting the front of her acrylic nail with a smirk, turning towards her best friend with a sneaky glisten in her eye

"Oh fuck, Moni no. It's too soon for this shit" AJ groans, shaking her head with a sigh "Give me at least an hour"

"The timer starts now" Monica winks

Inside the lobby, AJ holds the slip of paper in her hand to the front of her face, attempting to the remember the printed room number. She returns her focus to the hallways in front of her, searching for the elevators. They would be on floor four.

"I can't hold my piss anymore, I have to go. I'll meet you at the room, what number are we?" Monica says, doing a little hop of anticipation as she already makes her way towards the ladies room to her right

"D20" AJ responds as she shakes her head, getting into the elevator alone. She watches as the floor numbers go up and up, until it hits floor four.

Having her best friend here would make things better, but Avarie June would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous about her final year at hockey camp. In sixth grade she began coming with her twin brother, and she has never stopped returning.

AJ wanted to be the best of the best, and to be honest, she already was. She was unstoppable on the ice. It took blood, sweat, and tears to eventually rank high enough as she did. She worked her ass off and refused to let anything or anyone stop her from continuing on her mission. Some called it competitive and greedy, but AJ had no time to worry about them.
They would never understand, anyways.

At the end of the hallway, one of the only doors without personalization caught her eye. As she walked closer, the D20 symbols became more clear. AJ pulls the keycard out of her front pocket and attempts to swipe it, but it gleams red.

One more time, red.
A second time, red.

"Fuck" She mutters, swiping it again with the same results "Fuck me"

"You have to hold it" A voice behind her says, causing her to jump and raise her eyebrows. The keycard falls out of her hand as a result of the jump-scare, landing on the strangers foot. He leans down to pick it up, handing it to her.

The boy had a smile plastered on his face, finding the fright hilarious. He had a middle part and perfect teeth, his figure standing briefly over her. His blue eyes are directed towards her face.

"I didn't expect to scare you. I'm sorry" He laughs, pointing to the lock on the door next to "You have to hold it for like three seconds to get it to unlock"

He watched as she does as he directed, a green light illuminating both of their faces suddenly. AJ smiles and cracks the door open to slide her suitcase inside.

"No worries! I'm AJ" She greets, extending her hand to shake his own "Looks like you're the dorm across from ours"

"Ours?" He asks "Where's your roommate?"

"Oh- Monica! She's in the lobby...busy." AJ answers, a small laugh escaping her lips as she recalls her best friends urgent need to use the restroom

"Well, i'm Matt. I'm here with my brothers" The now named stranger responds, talking with his hands "I heard you out here struggling and figured I could kill two birds with one stone. Meet the new neighbors and help someone out"

The door behind him suddenly swings open, a cold breeze of air now surrounding them. A familiar unfamiliar face pops out, his eyes immediately darting to evaluate her face. This boy had shaggy hair and the same blue eyes, yet they spoke differently. These pair of eyes seemed...intrigued. He oddly attracted her, but AJ shook this off. His gaze stays on her for a few moments before turning to the boy with the same face.

"Hate to break this meet and greet up, but I need my brother back. Hope you don't mind" The boy says sarcastically, a hint of annoyance in his voice

"Chris!" Matt gasps, frowning his eyebrows. He turns back to her with an embarrassed expression plastered on his face "Sorry for him. I swear he isn't always a jackass. See you later, AJ" He returns into the room with his brother, allowing AJ to walk into her own room.

She sets her stuff down on the right side of the room, walking towards the window to see what her new view would be. Outside the window was the parking lot, and a sunset. Good enough.

"Is it serving?" A voice appears behind her, causing her to jump once more. She lets a loud groan escape her mouth as she turns around to see Monica, holding a can of pepsi and raising her eyebrows. "Damn, didn't mean to scare you"

"People have got to quit doing that to me today" AJ rolls her eyes, causing her best friend to let a confused expression wipe over her face as she shrugs, begging for more context "I had a run in with the neighbors. Fair warning, one is a ray of fucking sunshine" She rolls her eyes once more, sarcasm warning her words

"Typical hockey guy. Are they cute?" Monica wiggles her eyebrows, gently shoving AJ playfully as she places her belongings on the bed claiming the left side of the room "On a scale from one to ten, of course"

"Moni, Oh my God" AJ gags sarcastically

"Answer the question" She laughs

"Fine. 10. They're twins, or triplets. I think there is a third, but I don't know. Chris was a fucking asshole so I hate to rank him high" AJ answers with a shrug "Why do the pretty ones always have to be jerks?"

"Maybe you should give him a second chance" Monica suggests with a smile. AJ shakes her head and takes a seat on her bed "Nuh uh. Come on" Monica grabs AJs hand and drags her out of the room, knocking on the door across the hall

It takes a moment before being greeted by a boy.

"Do I need to call for help?" Matt laughs, noticing Monica's grip on AJs wrist. This causes her to drop her best friends hand with an anxious laugh of realization

"Who is here?" A voice calls out, another figure popping up beside Matt. Definitely triplets. He had shorter hair and unique style, with a confused smile on his face "Hello?"

"I'm Monica. And this-" She extends her words "is AJ!"

"I'm Nick" He laughs, fully swinging the door open now that he was comfortable with the two girls at his dorm. Behind him was shirtless Chris lying on the top bunk, busy on his phone yet watching the interaction at the door. Somehow the boys had already made a mess of their new dorm.

"Are you not gonna say hi?" AJ asks, directing her question towards him. This shocked Chris, her boldness being genuine and new. He hops down effortlessly and joins his brothers at the door.

"Didn't plan on it" He says blankly

"Hey!" Nick gasps, shoving his brother with furrowed eyebrows "What's your problem today?" He says to Chris, turning back to the girls "Men" Nick rolls his eyes, causing an erupt of laughter from them

"Boys will be boys" AJ says with a shrug. She found his ignorance annoying, but she had no time for enemies.

"We were actually about to head out to get some dinner. Care to join?" Matt offers

"Depends, what's on the menu?" AJ smiles, partially joking but genuinely interested to know. They say not to trust strangers, but technically the triplets were not strangers anymore. Safe enough.

"McDonalds? I need something greasy and nasty." Nick answers with a laugh "And a sweet little something afterwards"

"Oh- we are going to be best friends. I'm in" AJ widens her eyes with a nod

Matt and Nick step into the hall, joining AJ and Monica, before turning around to their room. They stop in their tracks, expecting Chris to be behind them, but instead being greeted by him climbing back up to his bunk.

"Dude? You're not coming?" Matt rolls his eyes directed at his brother, grabbing the door handle annoyed

"I came here to play hockey, not to make friends" Chris responds with a sarcastic chuckle.

"Never mind to that second chance bullshit. Gag his ass" Monica whispers to her best friend

AJ crosses her arms at his childish behavior. What was his problem? She didn't even know how they had already gotten off to the wrong start.

This was going to be a long summer.
