"It was you, was it not?" - Harlynn Pierce
Chapter XI
A beautiful city rose before me; made from glass and gold. It had an inhuman feel over it and it seemed to glow from the inside; filling me with a peaceful feeling deep within. Angels soared the skies and their laughter could be heard from miles away, a cheerful and musical sound. My eyes automatically found a black-haired angel with six grand golden-white wings, who was laughing and playing - tag maybe? - with a golden angel.
"Watch and learn," a powerful voice calmed inside my head, sounding surprisingly musical and gentle. I looked up and stared into mismatched green eyes.
And then the same city was before me, but it was burning. Angel fought angel; their sharp cries piercing right into my soul. The cries and whispers of their lost souls filled the air. Countless bodies scattered the ground. The only thing that remained was heavenly fire that started and ended it all.
I was inside the grand city now, staring down at an angel who was chained down for all to see – the same black haired angel from before. He was wearing old, dirty rags and he stood completely still while his fellow angels threw all kind of insults his way. The black angel took the insults with what little dignity was left, refusing to break before the judgmental eyes of his kin. The golden angel from before stood on the sidelines, seemingly at loss on what to do.
"Watch and learn," the same voice from before repeated, urgency in his voice. "See the truth."
The ground below the black angel split open and I watched on in horror how he fell with a terrified scream, the fear plain for all to hear, if one would just listen to his screams. Fear for the unknown. The angel fell from the sky like a dangerous lightning-strike, illuminating the entire night sky in his grace. Many others followed the beautiful angel in his fall from grace, like thousands of shooting stars falling down.
I saw how the angel fell from the light and into the darkness. Fear and hatred growing within his very heart. Watching a beautiful being growing so hateful and terrified had something sad and helpless about it; like watching a beautiful flower wither away before your very eyes, unable to do anything.
"Watch and learn. See the truth."
The scenarios changed again and I saw the golden angel from before. The golden angel stood before the gaping hole where the black angel fell from. The golden angel fell to his knees and cried for his friend's loss, silver tears like crystal rolling down his cheeks.
Beep. Beep. My eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. Beep. Beep. My eyelids fluttered open and they immediately shut again upon the harsh light from the lamps above my head. Beep. Beep.
Stop that noise! I mentally yelled. I opened my eyes again and blinked a few times, adjusting to my surroundings.
I stared up at a bare white ceiling. What happened?
Then I remembered. The monsters. The creature of fire and light. The dreams. Where they even dreams? I thought. I recalled the fire and heavy emotions. The hatred and sadness was much too great to be just a dream, or to belong to a human for that matter. I thought about the dark-haired angel I saw. He had something familiar about him. If I could just see his face.
Beep. Beep.
A door opened to my left. "Harlynn?" A voice called out. I turned my head towards the sound and saw a brown-haired guy walk into the unfamiliar room I was in.
"Jason?" I asked, recognizing the werewolf, my voice raspy.
"Hey," he said, hurrying over to my side, "take it easy alright? You're only human."
"What happened?" I asked the werewolf. "Where am I?"
"You are at the hospital," he replied, his eyes carefully studying me. "You have been unconscious for two days."
Two days?
"After I heard you were taken into the hospital, I decided to drop by and see how you are doing. Good to see you awake and alive," he told me, lightly bowing his head.
"Do you know how I got here?" I asked, rubbing my sore head.
"The nurse told me that some blond guy carried you in. You were all bloodied and torn up. Harlynn, what happened? Why do you smell so weird?" Jason fired at me, pulling up his nose, nostrils flares out.
I arched up my eyebrows. "I smell weird?"
The werewolf nodded, looking rather puzzled. He held up his nose and closed his eyes. "You smell like rotting fish and... and..." he appeared to be looking for the right word, "sunlight."
I stared at him in bewilderment. "Jason," I said slowly, "sunlight doesn't have a smell."
He nodded his head, eyes opening once more. "I am aware of that. But if it did," he stared at me for a while, "this is what it would smell like."
"What happened?"
"I got attacked by a lizard-like monster with two mouths and no eyes," I said. Jason's eyes widened. "I killed it, but there was a second one. I was almost killed by the second monster, but something saved me. It wasn't like anything I have ever seen before – or heard of." Jason hung on to every word I said, appearing to be interested in the being who came to my rescue.
"The Alpha?" He guessed.
I shook my head. "They looked and felt very differently. The only thing they had in common is that they both had wings."
Jason raised one of his eyebrows. "The Alpha only has two. But the one who saved me from the monster had six and seemed to be made entirely out of fire and light; a bright white."
Shaking his head, Jason said, "That sounds weird. I have never heard of a creature like that before. It's way out of my knowledge."
"I think it was an angel," I said, voicing my unspoken thoughts. "A guardian angel maybe."
Suddenly, Jason shot up, nostrils spread wide. He stared at the door in alarm before giving me an apological look. "Your grandparents are coming," he told me, "I gotta go. I don't really feel like dealing with any hunters. You are a nice hunter, but your grandparents will probably kill me when they see me." He seemed hurried to get it all out at once, I almost couldn't hear him seeing as how fast he was speaking.
I nodded my head. "Then get your wolf arse out of here."
"See you later. Get better, hunter girl." He quickly said, going towards the window and opening it. Without a doubt, he jumped down. Only a few seconds after Jason left, the door opened and my grandparents walked in, my grandmother carrying Ghost.
Upon seeing me, Ghost jumped out of my grandmothers hold and onto my hospital bed. The grand white cat lied down next to my head and started to purr loudly, I scratched him behind his furry ear. "Hi, Ghost," I said with a smile.
"I thought I would bring Ghost with me. The poor thing must have been worried," Elizabeth, her green eyes worried. "How are you feeling?"
"Surprisingly well. Maybe a bit tired," I replied. Next to me, Ghost made a humming noise in what almost seemed to be approval. I stared at both my grandparents. "I slayed my first monster."
John patted my shoulder, a wide grin on his face. "Well, done. That's my girl! What was it? A ghoul?"
"Haven't got a clue. It was lizard-like, had two mouths and no eyes."
"Sounds like a ventula," John muttered, looking out of the still-opened window. "I thought these things never left India."
He looked back at me with almost curiosity. "How are you still alive?" I arched up my eyebrows and gave him an 'are-you-kidding' look. Ghost hissed from next to me and glowered at my grandfather. "There aren't many who successfully manage to kill one, they are pretty strong. To take down even one, it takes roughly five skilled hunters."
My subconsciousness puffed out her chest, a smug grin on her face. Just proves how awesome we are. Don't underestimate us, she said. My inner warrioress nodded in agreement. "I did have some help," I admitted.
Both my grandparents looked at me in curiosity. "I killed the first... ventula... myself, but the second one was about to kill me."
"There were two?!" John shrieked in bewilderment. Everyone ignored him.
"This being saved me. It was an inhuman winged being purely made of fire and light in such a radiant white. I think it was an angel."
"Angels aren't real," John stubbornly said. "There is no such thing as angels."
Elizabeth gave him a look. "There are angels," she said to him before looking my way. "That must have been your guardian angel," she told me gently, "you should feel honored that he decided to manifest before your very eyes. Not many get the change to look upon Heaven's grace."
John snorted.
I tilted my head to the side. "Have you ever seen an angel?"
"Only once."
The door opened again and we all looked up. A nurse wearing a blue uniform walked in. "I already thought you were awake," she told me with a smile, "I heard talking from behind the door. How are you feeling?" When the door had opened, Ghost had hidden underneath the blanket, keeping completely still.
The nurse walked towards my bed and started checking some kind of machine with tubes. There was a pole as well with an IV-bag and connected to IV-lines. Following the lines with my eyes, I saw that they were attached to my arm with needles. "Have they been there all this time?" I asked aloud in bewilderment, having failed to notice the tubes and machine until now. So it was the machine who made the annoying beeping noise, I thought.
"You were unconscious for two days," the nurse told me, carefully removing the IV from my arm. "But seeing as you are awake and everything seems to be fine, you do not need those anymore."
"Will she be able to leave soon?" My grandfather had asked.
"The doctor will come soon to check up on her, he will be able to tell more."
I glanced at the ceiling while the nurse did her work. "Can you tell me how I got here?" I asked, suddenly remembering that I didn't even knew how I ended up in the hospital. The last thing I remembered before blacking out were the green eyes of the angel staring down at me. Jason told me some guy carried me in, but that was all I knew. Maybe the nurse could tell me more.
"A blond-haired, green-eyes guy carried you in. He said he found you like that on the side of the road," the nurse replied, "does he sounds familiar to you?"
I blinked my eyes. "Did he gave you – or anyone – a name?" Momentarily, I wondered if it was the angel who bought me here, while taking on a more humanoid form. I felt Ghost twitch underneath the blanket.
"No, I'm sorry. He left after he bought you here."
.
After the doctor had checked up on me, it was decided that I had to stay in the hospital for one more night just to be on the safe side. Currently I was propped up against the pillow, absently flipping through the senders on the television to see if there was something interesting to watch.
Ghost meowed from next to me and rubbed his head against my cheek. "I know bud," I told the cat. "I'm sorry for worrying you." Ghost purred in reply.
I let my mind wander and recalled the strange dream I had, wondering what it meant. It was clear to me that the angel wanted me to 'see the truth' and has send me a vision of some sorts, but what I did not understand was why.
Why would an angel send me - out of all people - a vision?
In my mind's vision, I recalled the grand city I had seen, not like anything on Earth, and the angels who had freely soared the sky. That must have been Heaven, my subconsciousness pondered. Contrary to what many people believed, Heaven wasn't atop a gigantic cloud and I grinned to myself, realizing that I was one of the few people who actually knew what Heaven looked like – or a part of it, at least. Maybe Heaven's capital city?
"Lucifer's fall," I realized, my eyes widening – Ghost glanced at me, his mismatched eyes unreadable. The angel showed me Lucifer's fall! Angel fighting angel and the grand city on fire. A chained angel and the same angel falling from the skies. The black angel must have been Lucifer, the fallen angel who - according to lore - rules over Hell.
But who was the golden one? A friend? Brother?
Why would an angel show me the fall of Lucifer?
"This might be even bigger than I originally thought," I mumbled. Ghost hummed from next to me.
I glanced at the cat. "What are you humming about?" I grumbled.
Ghost stopped humming and lifted his furry head from the white blanket, his mismatched green eyes locking on my own. My breath hitched in my throat and I really looked.
Those eyes are the exact same as the angel's in my dream, I realized dumbfounded. And the angel who saved me from the ventula.
"It was you, was it not?" I asked with a shaky voice.
Ghost continued staring at me, his eyes unreadable and doubtful. For a long time, we stared at each other; the 'cat' seemingly unsure and I mentally willed him to confirm my suspicions. That my cat was actually an angel all along.
After what felt like forever, Ghost slowly nodded.
You got to be kidding me.

Next chapter is here, little demons.
It's officially confirmed now; Ghost is an angel. But which one?? It will be a while until that will be revealed hehe Also, it won't be long until more secrets about Lucifer will be revealed as well as we will know more about Harlynn's mysterious ancestor; Christopher. What do you think I will reveal? What are your predictions? Thoughts? Let me know, aye? At the top is another picture of Ghost btw and another song I like :)
Oh, and don't worry. Lucifer will grace us with his appearance soon enough ;)

Alright then... now that Lucifer is back in the story I can continue. Know what? How about we make a little game of this? I can have Lucifer (or any other character really) pop-up in the author's note where they uh... do dares and answer questions and the alike - and totally random stuff like dearest Lucifer did. As the reader, you can tell them the dares or ask the questions. How does that sound? Just put your dares/questions in an inline-comment or so :)
I will conclude the author's note with this then. Lucifer, do you want to say good bye?
Lucifer: No. I don't
Author: ........ okay then. Then I'll just do it.
Hugs and knives and until next week, my little demons :) Don't forget to vote/comment/share if you liked it
Author: See? That wasn't too hard
