november 6th 1983

It was a dark and spooky night as 5 kids were sat around a table playing dungeons & dragons.

"Something is coming, something hungry for blood..." a young boy with dark brown hair exclaims. "A shadow grows on the wall behind you, swallowing you in darkness."

"it's almost here."

"What is it?" a girl with black hair questions.

"What if it's the demogorgon..."

"Oh jesus, we're so screwed if it's the demogorgon."

"It's not the demogorgon," a boy with curly brown hair assures his friends.

"An army of troglodytes charge into the chamber!" the dark brown-haired boy continues.

"troglodytes?"

"Told ya," The curly haired boy chuckles.

"Wait a minute... did you hear that sound?" the dark brown haired boy whispers "Boom boom boom. BOOM!" he yells, smashing his hands on the table, trying to be as dramatic as he can.

"That didn't come from the troglodytes," the dark brown haired boy continues, causing some eyes to widen. "No, that... that came from something else... The demogorgon!" he finishes, as everyone groans.

"We're in deep shit.."

"Will! Your action!"

"I don't know!" Will yells.

"Fireball him!"

"I'd have to roll a 13 or higher!"

"Too risky, cast a protection spell."

"Don't be a pussy, fireball him!"

"No, cast protection!"

"The demogorgon is tired of your human bickering!"

"Do something before the demogorgon destroys us all Will!" The long black-haired girl say.

"It stomps towards you... BOOM."

"Fireball him!"

"Another stomp... boom!"

"Cast. protection." One of them says desperate to win.

"He roars in anger!" The dark brown-haired boy exclaims.

"Fireball!" Will finally decides. He throws the dice a little too fast, causing it to fall off the table and land elsewhere on the ground.

"Oh shit!" 

"Where'd it go?"

"Where is it?"

"I don't know!"

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. oh my god, oh my god," the curly haired guy rambles, clearly not knowing what to do.

"Mike!" Mike's mom yells from upstairs.

"Can you find it?" The long-haired girl asks.

"No, i can't find it!" Will answers.

"Mike!" the mom yells again

"Oh my god. oh my god. oh my god," the curly haired boy keeps on rambling.

"Mike!" the mom yells once again.

"Mom, we're in the middle of a campaign!" Mike yells at his mom, coming upstairs to hear her better.

"You mean the end? 15 after," The mom replies

"Just 20 more minuets mom!"

"it's a school night, Michael. I just put holly to bed, you can finish it next weekend."

"But that'll ruin the flow!"

"Michael-"

"I'm serious, mom. the campaign took 2 weeks to plan. how was i supposed to know it would take 10 hours?"

"you've been playing for 10 hours?"

"Oh, I got it!" Will exclaims "Does a 7 count?"

"It was a seven?"

"Did mike see it?" the girl asks, Will just replying by shaking his head, "Then it doesnt count" 

"Yo, hey guys," the curly haired boy says holding up a box of a single pizza slice left "does anyone want this?"

"No," everyone replies, walking up stairs.

"There's something wrong with your sister," The curly haired boy says to Mike.

"What are you talking about?" He asks.

"she's got a stick up her butt."

"Yeah," the black-haired boy chuckles

"It's because she's been dating that douchebag, Steve Harrington." the girl chimed

"Yeah, she's turning into a real jerk."

"She's always been a jerk," Mike replies, obviously not like his sister, Nancy.

"Nuh-uh, she used to be cool. Like that time when she dressed up as an elf for our elder tree campaign," the curly haired boy protests to his friend's words.

"4 years ago!"

"Just saying," he defends.

"Later," both of the black-haired kids say, biking to their houses.

"It was a seven..." Will tells Mike.

"huh?" mike replies with a confused face.

"The demogorgon, it got me," will says. "See you tomorrow."

"Wanna race back to my place?" the curly haired asks will. Winner gets a comic."

"Any comic?"

"Yeah."

Will starts speeding off on his bike, to his friend's house.

"Hey! I didn't say go!" The curly haired friend screams "Get back here! I'm gonna kill you!"

"I'll take your X-Men 134!" Will exclaims to his friend, passing his friends house and on towards his own house next.

"Son of a bitch..." the curly haired friend whispers.

november 7th 1983

The school bell rings as 5 kids park their bikes at the bike rack.

"That's weird, I don't see him," Mike says.

"I'm telling you, his mom's probably right."

"Maybe he just went to class early again," Tess speaks up.

"Yeah, he's always paranoid Gursky's gonna give him another pop quiz," Dustin says next.

"Step right up, ladies and gentlemen" "Step right up and get your tickets for the freak show," Troy, one of their bullies announces.

"who do you think would make more money in a freak show? Midnight, Frogface, Psycho, Cherry-bomb, or Toothless?"

"It's Cheryl,"  she whispers to herself.

"I'd go with toothless," James, the other bully says, mimicking Dustin's voice.

"I told you a million times, my teeth are coming in. It's called cleidocranial dysplasia."

"'I told you a million times,'" James mimics Dustin, once again.

 Troy chuckles at James mimics, "Do the arm thing," he says turning towards Dustin.

"Do it, freak!" 

Both of the bullies groan, hearing Dustin's bones crack.

"God, gets me every time," Troy says walking away from the group.

"Assholes," James whispers before following his 'friend'.

"I think it's kinda cool, it's like you have superpowers or something. Like Mr. Fantastic," Mike tells Dustin, trying to make him feel better.

"Yeah, except I can't fight evil with it."

3 teens are gathered around a locker, as the school bell rings.

"So, did he call?" Barb asks her friend, Nancy.

"Keep your voice down," Nancy tells her, not wanting people to eavesdrop.

"Did he?" Alex asks.

"I told you, it's not like that," Nancy tells them, seeing their faces she speaks up "Okay, I mean, yes, he likes me, but not like that." "We just... made out a couple of times." She says next, causing Alex to make a disgusted face.

"'We just... made out a couple of times'," Barb mocks her friend "Seriously Nance." 

"You're gonna be so cool now, it's ridiculous," Alex speaks, like she's reading Barb's mind.

"No, I'm not," Nancy denies.

"You better still hang out with us," Barb says, not wanting her friend to leave her and Alex for the popular douchebags of the school.

"If you become friends with Tommy H, or Carol-" Alex speaks up but gets cut off by Nancy, "Oh, that's gross!"

"Okay, I'm telling you, it was a one-time thing," Nancy tells her 2 best friends finally opening her locker, to see a note saying, 'meet in the restroom - steve'. "Two-time thing..."

"You were saying?" Barb says, as both Nancy and Alex chuckle.

" Remember, finish chapter 12 and answer 12.3 on the difference between an experiment and other forms of science investigation. This will be on the test, which will cover chapters 10 through 12. It will be multiple choice with an essay section," Mr. Clarke, the kids science teacher tells the whole class. Everyone in the class, except Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Cheryl, Tess, and Mr. Clarke.

The 5 kids run up to the teacher's desk, keen to get an answer on something.

"So, did it come?" Mike asks his teacher.

"Sorry, boys and girls. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... it came."

"Yes!" The kids exclaim, excited to see it.

"The Heathkit ham shack."

"Whoa." Mike whispers, clearly impressed. 

"Ain't she a beaut?" Mr Clarke says.

"I bet you can talk to New York on this thing." Mike says.

"Think bigger."

"California?" Lucas questions.

"Bigger."

"Australia?" Dustin asks, as his teacher just nods.

"Oh, man! When Will sees this, he's totally gonna blow his shit," Lucas exclaims.

"Lucas!"

"Sorry."

"Hello, this is Mike Wheeler, president of Hawkins Middle AV Club," Mike speaks into the radio on the heathkit, in an Australian accent.

"Hello, this is Dustin, the secretary and treasurer of Hawkins Middle AV Club. Quick question, do you eat kangaroos for breakfast?" Dustin asks into the speaker, making everyone chuckle at his question.

But before Tess, Cheryl and Lucas could have a turn, there was a knock on the door.

"Sorry to interrupt, but, uh, may I borrow Michael, Cheryl, Theresa, Lucas and Dustin?"

All 5 of the kids were now in the principal's office, all their voices overlapping each other, asking if they did something wrong.

There was a couch, and 2 chairs. The boys were sat on the couch. Alongside the couch sat Cheryl and Tess, each on their own chair.

"Okay, okay, okay. One at a time, all right? You," Hopper says, pointing to Mike.

"You said he takes what?" Hopper asked Mike.

"Mirkwood."

"Mirkwood?"

"Yeah."

Hopper looks over to one of his co-workers, officer Powell, "Have you ever heard of 'Mirkwood'?"

"I have not. That sounds made up to me," Officer Powell tells the chief.

"No, it's from 'Lord of the Rings'" Dustin speaks up.

"Well, the hobbit," Lucas corrects his curly haired friend.

"It doesn't matter," Dustin exclaims.

"He asked!" Lucas tells Dustin.

"'He asked!'" Dustin says, mocking Lucas. Mike being in the middle of the 2 bickering boys, staring at the floor, knowing this was gonna happen.

"Shut up, guys!" Cheryl yells

"Hey hey hey!" Jim speaks up "What'd I just say? One at a damn time," he says next, this time pointing to his daughter, knowing that she'd tell him the truth.

"Mirkwood, it's a real road. It's just the name that's made up. It's where Cornwallis and Kerley meet."

"Yeah, alright, I think I know that one," Jim said.

"We can show you, if you want," Mike speaks up.

"I said I know it!" Hopper exclaims.

"We can help look," Mike suggests.

"Yeah"

"No." Hopper denies. "No. After school, you are all to go home. Immediately. That means no biking around looking for your friend, no investigating, no nonsense. This isn't some Lord of the Rings book."

"The Hobbit," Lucas corrects the chief. 

"Shut up!" Dustin yells at Lucas.

"Hey!" 

"Stop it!"

"Do I make myself clear?" Jim asks the children, in a soft but harsh voice. "Do I make myself... clear?" he asks once again.

"Yes, sir." 

"Yeah."

"Extremely clear."

"Lucas, do you copy? It's Mike." "Lucas?"

"Hey, it's Lucas."

"I know it's you. And say 'over' when you're done talking so I know when you're done. Over." 

"I'm done. Over." Lucas says, getting slightly annoyed.

"I'm worried about Will. Over." Mike says.

"Yeah," Lucas sighs, "This is crazy. Over."

"I was thinking... Will could've cast Protection last night, but he didn't. He cast Fireball. Over." 

"What's your point? Over." Lucas asks his friend.

"My point is... he could've played it safe, but he didn't. He put himself in danger to help the party. Over. Meet me in ten. Over and out."

Thunderstorms can be heard. So as leaves getting stomped on by the 4 kids searching around for their friend. Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Tess can be heard yelling out their friend's name, over, and over again. Unfortunately, their other friend, Cheryl couldn't make it since she lives more in the woods, and her dad is very strict.

"Will!" Mike yells

"Will!" 

"Byers!"

"I've got your X-Men 134!" Dustin yells out, hoping that his friend would somehow come out behind a bush or tree for it, "Guys, I really think we should turn back."

"Seriously, Dustin?" Lucas says, facing Dustin. "You wanna be a baby, then go home already!"

"I'm just being realistic, Lucas!" Dustin argues.

"No, you're just being a big sissy!"

Did you ever think Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?" 

"Dustin, shut up," Tess tells her friend.

"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"

"Shut up. Shut up."

More leaves start to rustle "Did you guys hear that?" Tess asks.

The party stands in shock, seeing a bald girl stare extremely scared at them.

wow, 2000+ words, i just realized that there were barely any scenes with alex, nor cheryl in the chapter. i'll either add some more scenes with them in later, or in the next chapter.
