Chapter Thirty Five: Steve
At our wedding, Bucky put on a big smile even though he didn't like all the attention. He wore a traditional tuxedo with a black glove on his left hand. He stood on my left, holding my hand with his good arm so I could feel his warmth. I wore a white suit and we walked down the aisle side-by-side. Thor looked irritable as he stood in front as priest. Loki sat in the front row, shooting Thor the Look every now and then. Loki's eye was still regenerating so he wore a light green eyepatch that matched his dress. Tony had persuaded Peter into wearing a dress for our wedding. I was surprised by the fact that there were multiple Avengers there that were doing drag. Natasha was faking being a boy for the day so everyone looked like normal, supportive hetero couples at our wedding when most of the people there were gay as fuck.
After the wedding reception, I picked Bucky up and slung him over my shoulder, marching out to my car. There were countless reporters and vloggers outside and I just ignored them. Bucky made an uncomfortable sound as the reporters closed in on us.
"Hold on tight, Bucky." I said before breaking into a sprint. I opened my car door and put him inside before yelling at the reporters. "HEY, BITCHES. WHY CANT YOU JUST LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE WHEN THEY WANT TO GET MARRIED IN PRIVATE!?" I screamed before climbing into the front seat. I revved up my car and sped down the street.
Bucky stayed silent until we got home. I had bought an apartment not that far from Stark Tower, where we'd live. I parked my car in the driveway and sat there for a few moments.
"Are you okay, Buck?" I asked softly. When he didn't reply, I said: "Look, I'm sorry that you had to deal with all that positive attention and the reporters and all that drama. I know you have anxiety. And I'm sorry that the team didn't plan on your anxiety acting up today. All things considered, you did very good today." Still nothing. I leaned around the seat to look at him. He was crying and his hands were forming signs rapidly. I felt my face go pale. I climbed over my seat and into the backseat with him. He hugged onto me and I pulled my husband into my lap.
I rocked back and forth, hugging him. I sang his song to him in hushed tones. "And I~ tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes, I fall into you arms... I'll be safe in your sound til I come back around... But now the day bleeds...into nightfall...and you're not here to get me through it all... I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug... I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved..."
He made a sniffling sound and leaned back to look me dead in the eye. He wasn't crying anymore but he tried talking and couldn't. I got out of the car and picked him up. He put his arms around my neck loosely and I walked up the stairs and into our new apartment. I set him down on the couch that I'd put in and asked if he wanted anything. He nodded and made a motion that I didn't understand.
I gave him a confused look which he replied with a movement that resembled him typing on a keyboard to a computer.
"Oh...you want your laptop, right?" I asked and he replied with a nod. I went into the room to go change out of my suit and get his laptop. We sat together on the couch after he changed into a plain red shirt and jeans and we watched some Sanders Sides.
