(t/w: mentions of rape, human experimentation, and child murder)

Gerard Porter was the HYDRA scientist who married Hannah Ford and fathered her daughter, Catty Porter. He experimented on Catty, and later her sister, Evelyn. Eventually, he was murdered by Ellie Maxwell after Catty's death.

At least, that's what happened in your universe. In this one, things were a little different.

It had been a week since Hannah had given birth. Gerard felt so guilty. Had he really married and raped this woman just to father her child? A child that was so sickly she couldn't be taken home for another week.

He sighed, sitting beside Hannah's bed. Catty was somewhere else in the hospital, having more tests done. The doctors thought she was deaf. Gerard wouldn't have been surprised. Hannah had inherited Steve's strength. Catty got his sickness.

"Gerry?" Hannah mumbled sleepily, looking up at him. The birth hadn't been easy on her. Gerard should've listened when she said she didn't think having kids was a good idea. She'd barely survived.

Gerard ran his fingers through her hair. "I'm here," he assured her softly. His heart hurt, seeing her look up at him with something akin to adoration in her eyes. Maybe it was love. But how could anyone love a monster like him?

Three years had passed since the Porters went on the run. Hannah had had another child, this time a boy. His name was Conrad Gerald Porter and three years younger than Catty.

The Porter family had gone on the run after Catty's second birthday. Gerard had betrayed HYDRA and destroyed his research. He packed the family's things and they left.

Why had he done it, you may ask?

Because Gerard, despite his flaws, knew he could never use his daughter as a guinea pig.

Gerard came into the bedroom, where Hannah was napping. His hands were shaking. Why were his hands shaking?

His wife heard him enter and sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Gerry?" she asked sleepily.

He gulped. Better to get it out than to keep it in, he thought.

"I'm a HYDRA agent," he blurted. He took a step closer and told her everything. About his sisters, about his stepfather. How he'd been recruited by SHIELD, then HYDRA. How he'd only married her so his child would have Captain America's genes. How he'd only wanted a child to use as a guinea pig.

How, in the end, Gerard knew he could never hurt his baby girl.

He fell to his knees, sobbing. "I'm sorry," he choked out. "Hannah, I'm so sorry."

The blonde crossed the room and crouched beside him, wrapping an arm around him. "I forgive you," she murmured. "For better or for worse, remember?"

Hannah sat in the porch swing, humming to Conrad, who was asleep in her lap. Catty was in the flowerbed, trying to catch a butterfly. Gerard watched them all from inside, where he was doing the dishes.

He noticed Hannah freeze where she was. She stood and ushered the children inside. Catty led the very sleepy Conrad to the kitchen. Hannah stayed on the porch.

"Mommy said to tell you there's funny cars outside," Catty said upon entering the room.

Gerard swore under his breath. They'd been found. He crouched in front of his daughter. "What kind of funny cars?" he asked, speaking and signing.

"The big black ones with the windows you can't see in," the girl replied.

He swore again. "Take Conrad and wait for me and Mommy in the laundry room, okay, Catty-bug?" he said and signed before nudging her towards the door. She nodded and took her brother to the laundry room.

Gerard grabbed the pistol hidden under the sink and made sure it was loaded before going to the porch with Hannah. She stood tall near the porch steps, having gotten the gun hidden in the porch pillar.

"Stay strong, love," Gerard whispered to her before a bullet cut through the air. He fell backwards, a hole in his head. He was dead in seconds.

Hannah screamed. Weapon forgotten, she ran into the house and slammed the door. She went to the laundry room, where the children were waiting.

Catty looked up at her mother. "What's going on, Mommy?" she asked.

Hannah didn't reply. "Catty, listen to me, okay?" she said and signed. "You need to take Conrad and run into the woods. Don't look back. Wait for me in the clearing. Don't talk to any strangers. And if I don't come for you, go to the police. Tell them you need to find your aunt, Peggy Carter."

Catty cocked her head. "I don't have an aunt named-"

"Catalina!" Hannah snapped, grabbing her daughter by the arm. "Just do as I say. It's for your safety."

Tears welled in the girl's eyes at Hannah's tone. "Okay, Mommy," she said softly.

Hannah kissed the top of her head. "I'm sorry, love," she whispered. "I'll see you soon." She gave Conrad a kiss to the head as well before sending the two out.

Catty held Conrad's hand and led the boy out to the woods. She followed her mother's instructions, not looking back once. Conrad looked back when he heard a gunshot, but Catty continued dragging him along.

Finally, the Porter siblings made it to the clearing.

Catty collapsed onto the ground, wheezing. Conrad sat beside her.

It felt like it had been hours, but was probably only minutes, when Conrad heard footsteps approaching. He tugged Catty's sleeve. She sat up.

It wasn't Hannah that burst through the trees. Nor was it Gerard. It was a redhead girl that neither Catty nor Conrad had seen before.

'Are you okay?' the girl signed, kneeling beside the siblings. 'My name is Mary. I'm from the farm up the road. My papa heard gunshots and sent me to see if you were okay.'

"I'm Catty," the brunette told her breathlessly, signing sloppily. "We're okay. We're waiting for our mommy."

The girl, Mary's, eyes flickered downwards. 'Your mommy won't come,' she signed. 'She was shot.'

Catty's eyes got big. She held Conrad's hand tightly.

Mary stood. 'Come with me,' she signed. 'My papa can help you.'

Catty looked at Conrad, then back at Mary. She stood, tugging Conrad with her. She took Mary's hand.

Mary led the Porters out of the woods. Then, two last gunshots rang out. Both children fell to the ground, dead, hands still entwined.

Just like that, the Porters were dead.
