"Are you sure you can't come? It isn't too late to buy a plane ticket" Iris softly smiles at her sister
"I wish, but there are too many meetings this week. Just give Dad a big hug for me" Blake frowns
Days had passed since her first date with Matt. Things were almost too perfect that at times Iris forgot about the choice she had to make. Every day contained one on one time with Matt, and endless sleepovers with him. Things felt perfect.
She was at a point where she knew she needed to talk to her Dad immediately and get advice.
Coincidentally, the triplets had already planned to go home anyways so the four all bought joint plane tickets and arranged a way home together.
Her phone dinged with a text saying the car is outside and ready for her suitcase.
"I love you, okay? I'll see you in a week" Iris smiles and embraces her sister in a hug
Stepping out the front door, Matt grabs her suitcase and follows her to the car, opening the passenger door before returning to the back of the trunk.
"Ready?" Chris asks, leaning forward from his seat in the back to poke Iris's shoulder
"So ready. I miss home" She responds "I miss my dad"
"I miss my parents too. It's been way too fucking long since we have been able to come home" Nick chimes in
Matt steps in the car and begins the drive. The airport was a short fifteen minute drive, and they made sure to check in online to avoid TSA and long lines.
"Do you think it's going to be hard coming home?" Chris asks "You know, with Marjorie and all"
"Chris!" Matt groans, leaning back to smack him while keeping his attention to the road
"What! What did I do?" He gasps offensively
"It's okay, I promise... Being at home was hard at first. I mean mom's memory is everywhere. I think that's why Blake still can't come... But now all I need is her memory. I don't ever want to forget her" She pauses "It's still hard, but I know she'd want me to do it"
"You know I hate being all mushy ,but we will be there with you if you need an escape" Nick smiles
"We really will. I know the point of being home is to spend time with family ,but you are our family" Chris responds "You're our sister from another mister. Well maybe not Matt's sister..."
"Why do you always have to make everything so damn weird?" Nick groans
"He kinda does have a point" Iris chirps
"Not you too" Nick sighs
"The moment you start agreeing with Chris is the moment you know you need to sit back and evaluate" Matt says
"What the fuck!" Chris says "Is this hate on Chris day?"
"Thanks for announcing it" Nick says "Fucking Robin Roberts"
Soon enough the drive way over and the group makes their way inside. They leave their bags at bag check and head towards the vending machines to fuel up before the flight.
They were able to purchase tickets to sit near each other. Nick and Iris would be in seats E2 and E1, while across the aisle Matt and Chris would be in E3 and E4. But Matt was able to convince a hesitant and playful Nick to switch seats with him in order to be closer to Iris.
"What do you want?" Matt asks, nodding towards paying for her
"Oh I'm gonna get it, thank you though" She smiles
"I didn't ask how you were gonna pay, I asked what you wanted" Matt jokes as he rolls his eyes "Gonna get it" He puts in air quotes "My ass"
"Well if I don't get an option...I was gonna get skittles, but I'm not seeing them" Iris responds
"Somewhere in this airport has to have skittles" Matt says "Come on"
He grabs her by the hand and begins to walk away.
"Matt! Our flight leaves in 15 minutes" Nick calls out "Where are you going?"
"Okay and this is only gonna take five" Matt responds "Thanks for taking the bags"
Nick rolls his eyes as Chris and him take the bags that Matt and Iris left behind as they walk away.
"I really can just pick another snack" Iris laughs
"Where's the chivalry in that?" Matt says
He continuously peeks into stores and passing vending machines, unlucky on his quest until finally finding the last remaining pack of skittles near the food court.
Matt rushes inside to grab the candy and pay before returning to Iris.
"A snack for my snack" Matt jokes as he hands her the pack of skittles
"Oh my God" Iris pretends to gag "I don't ever want to hear those words come from your mouth ever again"
Matt laughs at her, "How are we doing on time?"
"Well doors close at 9:30" She peeks at her phone "And it is 9:27..."
"Fuck. Don't tell Nick about this. I don't want to hear a I told you so" Matt groans
The two speed back to the gate and make it to the desk with one minute to spare, scanning their tickets with the attendant and walking on board out of breath.
"What did I fucking say?" Nick smirks
"Give me one for my troubles" Chris demands, opening his hand towards the bag of skittles
"Your troubles?" Iris scoffs "Hands off my rainbow, bitch"
"Uh yeah my troubles. Who do you think carried two extra suitcases and one makeup bag while you two idiots ran across the airport?" Chris squints
"Fair enough. You're free to taste the rainbow"
She dumps a good amount of candy in his hands resulting in a mutual smile.
The plane ride contained of sharing playlists and songs, holding hands and Iris falling asleep on Matt's shoulder.
Normally Iris hates planes. She never felt comfortable in them and with the idea of being stranded so high up. But with Matt, she felt safe.
With Matt she forgot she ever hated planes.
Soon enough the plane lands and the group was able to get their bags and leave. They walk outside and see a familiar smiling face.
"Hi Mom" Matt smiles as he is the first to pull her into a hug
Matt, Chris, and Nick give their mom a big hug and kisses on the cheek before packing the bags into the car.
"You get more beautiful each day that passes" MaryLou says pulling her into a tight hug "God you look exactly like your mother"
"Thank you MaryLou." Iris smiles
The triplets mother became a second mom to Iris after her own had passed away. She was always there for a hug and word of advice. She had a special way of recognizing them as daughters of her own and understanding that they were grieving children.
Both sets of parents became just as close as their children throughout the years of living next to each other. There were many shared cookouts, super bowl parties, pool parties, and joint memories.
Whenever Iris's mother died, everyone had to learn how to both cherish and fill the void she abandoned behind.
Just being back in Boston air made Iris feel like herself again. The atmosphere around her reminded her of simpler times when she didn't have to pick between her artist dreams or Matt.
