It was a Wednesday morning. The weather was nice and the snow spared everyone today. Birds were noisily chirping.
Which was great.
The only thing that didn't spare kids was: School. Oh, the torture.
These two kids, Grace and Jay, overslept and were late to school. When they realised they were really going to be lectured, they quickly jumped off the bed that they were sleeping together on with and hurriedly put on their clothes. They were having a sleepover at Graces' house yesterday.
"Oh shit, we are in big trouble!" yelled Jay, who was running beside Grace.
Grace rolled her eyes, and yelled, "No kidding! We're so gonna get our assess whooped!"
-
"Hey you two," the brown haired boy, named Chauncey, approached them. He waved, his lips curved up into a small smile.
Grace smiled, "Hey Charcoal." She said as he took a seat beside her. "I'm guessing you probably know."
"Hell yeah I do. I'm in both Jay and your classes, Gracie," he grinned. He knew that she didn't like the nickname. "You both had a lecture from Mr Aluminum."
Grace groaned, and punched Chauncey on the shoulder lightly, to which he chuckled at. "Don't call me that, C. It's sounds so damn girly."
Jay laughed, a smile tugging at his lips. "Are you sure you're a girl, Grace? Your parents must have assumed your gender wrongly for sure, and gave you dresses to wear."
She nodded. "Yes, positive. I'm a girl, but hate wearing dresses." Grace made a disgusted face as she said that.
Chauncey and Jay burst into a chorus of laughter.
"How can you hate wearing dresses?" asked a bewildered Chauncey. "I thought all girls like to wear them?"
Grace shrugged.
"Why do you hate wearing dresses, though?" Jay curiously stared at her.
"Well, my grandpa used to touch my shoulders when I was younger, whenever I wore a dress that revealed my shoulders. Even if my dress didn't, he would still touch me." Grace grunted in frustration. "So I stopped wearing dresses and vowed to never wear one ever again."
Chauncey chuckled. He grinned, and rested his head on Graces' shoulder, said, "But you had to wear one to that boy's older sister's wedding in the end."
Jay, who was sitting at the opposite of Grace, came over to them, and took a seat on the other side of the girl, so he could rest his head on her shoulder too. "That boys name is Elson, right?" He asked.
Grace nodded, "Yeah." Then she flicked both of their foreheads, making them wince. "Also, I had to attend to the wedding in a nice white dress because I had to. My mom forced me to..."
They both looked at her as she trailed off and shivered. "It was horrifying." Grace whispered.
Chauncey laughed, smiling. "Now you don't need to attend to any wedding, so you don't need to wear a dress now."
He patted her shoulder in an reassuringly way, giving her a thumbs up, he said, "Don't worry, Grace."
Jay then joked, "Or you can attend my wedding in your bride dress, Grass!"
Grace rolled her eyes. "Never going to happen, Jay. Sorry. You're too gross."
"OHHH YOU JUST GOT REJECTED!!!" Chauncey yelled.
Jay rolled his eyes, and mumbled, "Whatever."
Chauncey turned to Grace. They both smiled and began to laugh out of the blue.
Confused, Jay looked up from the table and stared at them with a: 'wtf are you guys okay?' look.
In the end, the three of them burst out into fits of laughter, joining together.
|What a good group of friends.
Too bad there is only one girl.|
-
Grace sighed. Jay exhaled quietly.
They didn't know what their parents would say to them now. Expecting a lecture from both of their guardians, they stood outside Graces' house, contemplating if they should enter or not.
Jay glanced at Grace, a worried look set on his face. "So, what are we gonna do?" He crossed his arms and biting his bottom lip, he turned his head to the side.
"I don't know," she said and crossed her arms. "All I know is, our parents probably won't let us see each other anymore."
Sucking in a deep breath, Grace mumbled, "That would suck."
Jay scrunched up his face. "It would really suck."
"Yeah, it would." Nodding, she turned to Jay, "Got a plan to avoid this?" Grace pointed to the house with her index finger.
"Hmm...Nothing." he said, before groaning.
The two of them groaned in unison at the thought of both of them never seeing each other for a while.
Just then, Chauncey came, waving to them. They waved back at him as he walked towards them.
"Hey," Chauncey beamed. Noticing the sad looks on the two brunettes faces, he knew that something was off. "What's wrong?"
Grace shrugged her shoulders. "Jay and I came late to school, remember?"
Chauncey nodded. "Yeah, why?"
As Grace and Jay were explaining what would probably happen because they came to school late, Chauncey was staring at both of them with a blank look, with an eyebrow raised.
"You don't know what's going to happen, so just go face both of your parents." He said, shrugging. "It's not like you and Jay would be separated.
Grace let out a small sigh. Jay turned to her, a questioning look on his face. "Fine. We'll do it." Those words instantaneously made Jay gasp and make his jaw drop to the floor.
Chauncey sighed, nodding. "Finally. Now go and face them, cowards." He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his red hoodie and watched Jay who was on the urge of freaking out.
Grace scoffed, crossing her arms to her chest, as if offended. "I'm not a coward!"
"If you don't even dare to face your parents about a trivial matter, and am scared, guess you are one." Chauncey shrugged.
Jay wasn't listening to the both of them bickering. He was too busy freaking out.
"Whose the one who ran away when you saw an ant? Hmm?" Grace shouted, stepping closer to Chauncey.
Their faces were only inches apart.
"Whose the one who screamed when—" his voice was cut off by a loud one.
"What is the meaning of all of this?!"
Grace turned to Mrs Citadel, Jays' mother, who was looking concerned. "Um, hi Leah." She waved, smiling timidly.
"Why are you so close to that boy?" The mother asked, raising an eyebrow when she noticed the closed up distance between Chauncey and Grace.
Smiling innocently at Leah, Grace pushed Chauncey away and said, "I was just going to give him what he deserves, Leah!"
Chauncey stumbled backwards from the push. He glared at Grace who glared at him with equal amount of hate.
Jay was saying nothing and kept quiet.
"All of you, inside the house. Now." Leah demanded. Her serious face morphed into a cheerful and bright look.
"Oh no," Jay muttered under his breath. He knew that look.
Grace turned to him, hearing what he said, and thought about his words over and over again. Realization hit her like a truck. But there wasn't an option to back out now.
"And eat my homemade cookies!!" Brightly smiled the woman.
Chauncey smiled warmly, and said, "Sure, Mrs Citadel."
Grace and Jay turned to him with a horrified look. 'He's doomed,' they thought in their heads.
-
Luckily, the two of them were able to meet each other as usual, but they were to help with the chores at the house. Jay and Grace groaned at the thought of them holding brooms, and dressed in the cleaning attire.
"Guess we'll have to just do it," Grace grumbled under her breath.
Jay groaned, not liking what was going to come. "If only we've never been late to school...!"
The two of them groaned in frustration.
"Oh, and looks like Chauncey is not going to school tomorrow," said Grace, snickering. "He shouldn't have eaten those cookies."
