Third POV
When Ananya returns, something catches Dushala's eyes. "Aapki shaadi ho gayi hai, Didi?" (Are you married, elder sister?)
"Nahi. Tumhe aisa kyun laga?" (No, why did you think that?) her voice had horror lacing every word.
"Aapke baal bandhe hai." (Your hair is tied.)
"Nahi. Nahi. Humare samay mein, issese koi farak nahi padta." (No. No. In our times, it doesn't matter whether your hair is open or not.)
"Aisa kyun?" (Why is that?)
Through the mirror, Ananya looks at Dushala frowning, "Mujhe nahi pata?" (I don't know) she said but it sounded more like a question.
Dushala couldn't help it, she giggled. And Ananya joined.
"Shala?" Ananya calls. Dushala stops laughing and looks at her curiously.
"Naam achcha laga?" (Did you like the name?) Dushala nods in affirmation.
"Tu mujhe ek madd karo." (So, help me.) Ananya says.
"Bolo Didi." (Tell me, elder sister.)
"Ek bhure rang ka daba hoga, de sakti ho?" (There is a brown box, can you give it to me.) Ananya asks. Dushala nods and moves to her suitcase that was lying open on the side table. She picked the brown box looking at curiously, before handing it to Ananya.
"Dhanyavad." (Thank you.) Ananya says and Dushala smiles in return.
Ananya opened the box, it was a jewelry box. There were various kinds of jewelry in it- Artificial, gold, silver. Dushala was awed to see some of them. They were so nice.
Noticing, Dushala's stare Ananya said, "Agar koi achcha lage toh, pehne ke liye le sakti ho." (If you like any, you can wear them.)
"Sachi?" (Really)
"Are haan." (Of course) Ananya smiles. And Dushala smiles widely.
"Aap ka dil kitna bada hai." (Such a big heart you have.) Dushala smiles as she helps Anaya wear a dangler ear rings. (A/N pic above.)
"Bas mere gold wale nahi." (Just not my Golds one.) Ananya warns her. And Dushala laughs nodding her head.
"Rajkumari, Devi. Maharani aur Rani aap ko khan eke liye bula rahi hai." (Princess, lady. Queens are calling you for dinner.) a Dasi says.
"Hey bhagwan." (Oh God!) A look of horror crosses her face, "Hume der ho gayi." (We are late.)
"Mujhe do mint do." (Give me two minutes.) Ananya says as she rushes to wear the heels she was wearing before.
"aap inhe pehn kar kaise chalti hain?" (how do you walk wearing those?)
"Main aise roj pehenti hun." (I wear shoes like these every day.) Ananya answers as she grabs her purse from the bag closes it and shuts the suitcase.
"Uss mein kya hai?" (What does it have?) A very confused Dushala asks.
"mere saman. Ab chalo." (My things. Come on.) both of them almost run to the dining area. Most people were seated.
"Kshama Rani. Main Dushala se batein karne lagi thi." (Pardon me, queen. I started talking to Dushala) Ananya says to the queens. Because everybody was talking in whispers, they heard her clear and looked up.
The Pandeva's were looking at her in perplexity, what was she wearing? Where did she find it? Bought it from Kaliyuga?
The Kauravas were a little disappointed, her legs were hidden. But she did look hot and ravishing.
Ashwatthama wasn't paying attention, but his friend Karn was, she was so beautiful, he couldn't take his eyes off her face. She looked just so different.
"Yeh kya hai, devi?" (What is this, Lady?) Rani Kunti asks. Everybody involuntarily moved ahead in their seat to listen to her answer.
"Patiala, kehtein hai, Rani. Humare Bharat mein milta hai." (This is Patiala, Rani. This is found in my Bharat.) Anaya answers, very well aware of the eyes on her.
"Sunndar hai." (Its beautiful) Rani complements and Ananya gives her a small smile.
"Kaal hummare pas aajana, hum tumhe kapde de denge." (Tommorrow, come to me, I will give you some clothes) Maharani Gandhari says as she stands beside Kunti, holding Ananya's hand.
A simple line, and a look of pure horror crosses her face. Everybody notices it and were surprised.
"Maharani, Dhanyavad. Par Kshama kijiye ga, main aapke tarah tayar nahi ho sakti." (Queen, thank you. But forgive me, I can get ready like you.) Ananya say's sadness in her voice.
"Kyun?" (Why?) Maharani asks.
"Main chali hi nahi paungi. Hamare samay mein, itne gahne aur roj aise kapde nahi pehnte." (I won't be able to walk. In our times, so many jwelary and clothes like these aren't worn.) Ananya explains.
"Woh kaal dekhenge." (We will think about it tomorrow.) Maharani says. Ananya sighs.
"Tumhari shaadi ho gayi hai?" (Are you married.) Rani Kunti asks suddenly and everybody looks confused on why she asked that.
"Nahi. My hair is tied kyunki uske bina main phadai nahi kar paungi. Jo main jadatar samay kart hun" (No. My hair is tied because without tying my hair I can't study, which I do most of the time.) Ananya say with a small smile.
"Kya phadti ho tum, Devi?" (What do you study, Lady) Pitamah asks.
"Maha Mahim, Kripya karke mujhe Ananya bulaiye warna main aapna naam bhul jaungi. Aur main Niyam aur Kanon phadti hun." (Maha Mahim, please call me Ananya or else I will forget my own name. And I study Law and Law making.) Ananya answers.
"Kaliyug mein ladkiyan Niyam aur Kanon bhi phadti hai?" (In Kaliyuga, ladies study Law and Law making too?) Maha Mantri Vidor asks surprised.
"Hum woh chij phad sakte hain, jo hum phadna chahein." (I can study whatever I want to study.) Ananya tells him.
"Phadne ka fayda?" (what is the point of studying.) Prince Duryodhana asks.
"Hum mare smay mein ladke aur ladkiyan, dono kam kartein hai." (In our times, boys and girls, both works.)
"Kyun?" (Why) Prince Yudhishthira asks.
"Kyun nahi?" (Why not?) she fires back.
"Par agar woh bhar kam karegi, toh ghar mein kon karega?" (But if she works outside, who will do the house hold chores.) King asks.
"Wahi karegi." (She will only do it.) Ananya says. "aur uska pati usse madd karega." (And her husband is going to help her.)
"Pati khana banaye, aur patni bahar kam kare. Kaliyuga mein hi ho sakta hai." (Husband cooks and wife works outside the house, can only happen in Kaliyuga.) Mama shree Shakuni laughs.
"Kya yeh Pati ka dharma nahi ki who Patni ko har kaam mein saath de? Aur Patni ka Pati ko?" (Isn't it a husband's dharma to help his wife in everything? And for wife to help her husband?) Ananya questions.
"Toh aisa kyun nahi hota jaise abhi ho raha hai?" (So, why don't keep it like it is now?) Prince Nakul asks.
"Stree toh ghar ki Lakshmi hoti hai na?" (lady is the Goddess Lakshmi of the house na?) Ananya asks, when everybody nods, she continues, "Toh fir usse ghar mein kyun band karna? Usse chut kyun nahi?" (Then, why is she kept closed in a house? Why shouldn't she be free?)
She had a point, and people could see it.
"Roj kam par jana aur fir, yeh ghar ka sara kam. Yeh sab bahut mahnat ka lagta hai." (Going to work and then working back at the house. It all must be hard.) Prince Bheema asks.
"Mahnat." (Hard work.) She smiles at him. "Mahnat, uss chij ki ginti nahi hoti jo, humme khush kare." (Hard work, is not counted when you are happy with the thing.)
"Bahut batein ho gayi, ab aap sab khalein." (You had enough talk, now you guys can eat.) Rani Kunti intervenes.
"Aapki Mata- Pita kya karten hai?" (What does your parent do?) King asks.
The smile of her face, instantly drops. Her hands clench, she says, "Mere Mata- Pita nahi hain, Maharaj" (I don't have parents, King). She suddenly turns around and runs out of the room, leaving the people in a tense situation.
