16 - surprise surprise

CALLUM'S PENTHOUSE
london, england
march 27, 2024
wednesday
11am

i slowly sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. the room was filled with bright sunlight streaming in through the windows, creating a warm and inviting ambience.

i stretched my arms overhead, enjoying the feeling of waking up in such a comfortable and elegant room. i glanced at the clock on the nightstand, seeing that it was past eleven in the morning.

i stumbled out of the bed and padded over to the bathroom, my bare feet sinking into the soft carpet. as i passed the mirror, i caught a glimpse of my reflection and stopped to examine it. my hair was tousled and messy from sleep, and i had pillow creases on my cheek.

i decided that a shower would do me some good, so i slipped into the luxurious bathroom and turned on the shower. steam began to fill the room as the water warmed up, and i quickly stripped off my clothes before stepping under the hot spray.

i let out a sigh as the water washed over me, the heat and steam helping to relax my sore muscles. my thoughts began to drift, and i couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of exploring london with callum.

after about ten minutes, i turned off the shower and stepped out, wrapping a towel around myself. the bathroom was filled with steam, and i quickly grabbed another towel to wrap around my hair.

i stepped out of the bathroom and walked back into the bedroom, still wrapped in the towel. callum was nowhere to be seen, and i assumed he was probably in the kitchen or the living room. i changed into my outfit for the day and headed back into the bathroom to brush my teeth before making my way into the kitchen.

as i walked into the kitchen, i found callum standing at the counter, making tea. he looked up as i entered the room, his gaze sweeping over me appreciatively. "good morning." he said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"morning." i replied, feeling a little self-conscious under his appreciative gaze. i walked over to the counter and leaned against it, still feeling a little groggy from my nap. "how long was i out?"

callum chuckled and handed me a cup of tea, the warm liquid immediately helping to wake me up. "let's see, you slept from nine am to ten pm and then had dinner with me before drifting back to sleep. i'd say a good 14 hours." he said, his tone teasing.

i gaped at him in shock, the realization that i had slept for that long sinking in. "14 hours? are you serious?" i asked, my eyes widening.

callum laughed at my reaction, clearly enjoying the shock on my face. "yeah, you were out like a light. i didn't have the heart to wake you." he said, taking a sip of his tea.

i shook my head in disbelief, still a little amazed that i could sleep for that long. "i must have been really tired." i said, taking a sip of my own tea. the hot liquid felt good on my throat, and i could feel myself starting to fully wake up. "what kind of tea is this? it's great."

callum smiled and leaned against the counter beside me. "it's a special blend i like to make. chamomile, lavender, and just a touch of honey." he said, taking another sip.

i took another sip of the tea, letting the soothing flavors wash over my palate. "it's delicious." i said with a satisfied sigh. "you gotta teach me how to make it."

callum chuckled. "i can teach you later." he said, his gaze flickered over me before returning to my face. "but first, i thought we could do a little tour of london. show you my favorite spots around the city."

i perked up at his suggestion, my interest piqued. "sounds great." i said, already feeling excited at the prospect of exploring london with him. "where do you wanna start?"

callum placed his empty cup in the sink. "well, i thought we could start with brunch at a cafe nearby and then make our way around to some of my favorite places." he pushed away from the counter and motioned for me to follow him towards the door. "ready to go?"

i nodded eagerly, setting down my now empty cup as well. "absolutely." i said, grabbing my jacket from the coat rack. "let's go."

callum chuckled and opened the door for me, gesturing for me to go first. we headed out into the hallway, the sound of our footsteps echoing in the quiet penthouse. as we rode the elevator down to the lobby, callum leaned against me and draped his arm around my shoulders.

"you remember the last time you showed me around london?" i said referring to when we spent the day on the town when i was in town for a show.

callum chuckled, his arm pulling me closer against him. "how could i forget?" he replied, his tone affectionate. "you insisted on getting those little bears."

i laughed, recalling the memory. "it's not everyday that you see a teddy bear with a heart attached to them and it reads london." i defended.

callum just smiled and shook his head, clearly amused by my souvenir-collecting tendencies. "i swear, you're worse than a kid in a toy store." he teased.

i laughed softly. "and i better find another souvenir today." i said before speaking again, "do you still have the teddy bear i gave you?"

callum's expression softened, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "of course i do." he said, his voice gentle. "it's sitting on my bedside table. did you not see it?" he paused before speaking again, "oh that's right. you were too busy drooling on my pillows."

i felt my face heat up at his comment, even though i knew he was just teasing me. i shoved his arm playfully. "i was not drooling." i protested, trying to sound indignant.

callum laughed and squeezed my shoulders. "fine, but i heard some snoring going on." he said, still wearing the smug expression.

i scowled at him, not even bothering to deny it. "i swear to god, if you tell anyone that i was snoring-" i was cut off by the elevator dinging as we were now on the lobby floor.

"relax, i won't tell anyone." he chuckled, holding the elevator door open for me as we stepped out into the lobby. "besides, it was kind of cute."

i rolled my eyes, but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corner of my lips. "cute, yeah, okay." i replied sarcastically, but there was no heat behind my words.

"we're going this way." he said as he started walking to a door near the side.

i followed closely behind him as he led the way through the side door. we stepped into the apartments garage and he quickly made his way to a green land rover.

callum opened the passenger side door for me, gesturing for me to get in. i climbed into the seat and buckled my seatbelt as he made his way around the car to the driver's side.

he got in and buckled his seatbelt before turning the key in the ignition. the land rover rumbled to life, and he pulled out of the garage and onto the street.

i leaned back in my seat, staring out the window at the london streets passing by. despite the fact that i had already been to london before, there was something different about exploring the city with callum. it felt more intimate and personal, like i was seeing the city through his eyes.

"so this is your london car?" i questioned.

callum glanced over at me, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "yeah, one of them." he confirmed, his eyes returning to the road.

"one of them?" i repeated.

callum chuckled at my surprise. "yeah, i have a few different cars." he said casually. "this one's just my favorite to drive around the city."

he navigated the streets expertly, weaving in and out of traffic with ease. it was obvious that he was comfortable behind the wheel.

"you know, some people might call that excessive." i pointed out, raising an eyebrow playfully.

he shrugged, "some might, but you can't." he pointed out.

"really? why can't i?" i asked.

"because you love expensive things, too." he pointed out, his tone matter-of-fact. "we both have pricey tastes. not to mention you're a jenner."

i couldn't argue with that. it was true, i did have a bit of a weakness for luxury items, just like he did.

"touché." i said with a shake of my head, unable to deny his point.

we continued driving through london, the city passing by in a blur of sights and sounds. callum seemed to know the city like the back of his hand and navigated the streets effortlessly.

before long, we pulled up in front of a quaint and charming cafe. the smell of fresh coffee and pastries wafted out onto the street, and my stomach growled in anticipation.

callum turned off the car and turned to me with a smirk. "shall we?"

i nodded eagerly, unbuckling my seatbelt and opening the car door. "absolutely." i said, stepping out of the car.

i followed him into the cafe, taking in the cozy and inviting atmosphere. the walls were painted a soft cream color and were decorated with various art pieces. cozy armchairs and small tables were scattered around the space, creating an inviting and casual ambiance.

we approached the counter and were greeted by a friendly barista. "what can i get for you two?" she asked with a smile.

callum turned to me, "ladies first." he said, gesturing for me to order.

i quickly scanned the menu above the counter, deciding on my order. "i'll have a cappuccino and a blueberry muffin, please." i said, turning back to the barista.

callum gave his order next, asking for an espresso and a croissant. the barista quickly rang us up and we took a seat at one of the small tables near the window.

"i feel so weird, i'm the only one with an american accent." i said with a small laugh.

callum chuckled as he stirred sugar into his espresso, his eyes glinting with mirth. "yeah, you do stick out a bit." he said, a teasing tone in his voice. "but don't worry, you're still cute."

i rolled my eyes good-naturedly, reaching for my cappuccino. "i swear, i'm going to get stared at all day." i said, sighing dramatically. "just watch, i'll get mobbed by fans any second now."

callum laughed, clearly amused by my melodrama. "oh yeah, because being mobbed by fans is such a terrible thing to deal with." he said sarcastically, taking a sip of his espresso.

"oh, shut up." i said jokingly.

he just chuckled again, clearly enjoying my playful attitude. "don't worry, i'll protect you from the hordes of fans trying to get your autograph."

~~

we spent the next hour and a half enjoying our coffees and pastries, chatting and laughing easily. when we were finished, callum paid the bill and we left the cafe to continue our tour of london.

as we walked down the street, he pointed out different local shops and landmarks, sharing anecdotes about his own memories of the city.

i listened intently, absorbing everything he told me and taking mental notes of the spots i wanted to come back to eventually. callum had a way of making even the most mundane things sound interesting.

after a while, he stopped in front of a beautiful park, gesturing for me to follow him towards a bench.

we sat down on the bench and looked out at the lush green park in front of us. the sun was shining and the trees were rustling in the breeze. there were a few people walking dogs and children playing, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

callum sat back against the bench, his arm casually resting behind me. "this is one of my favorite spots in london." he said, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. "i used to come here all the time when i was younger."

i looked at him, sensing the sentimentality in his tone. "oh yeah? what did you do here?" i asked curiously.

callum smiled, his eyes distant as he looked out at the park. "i used to play football with my mates here all the time. we'd spend hours running around and scoring goals, not a care in the world. it was the kind of carefree childhood that i never thought i'd miss so much." he paused before adding, "i used to skate around here too."

i was surprised and impressed. "you skate? and you used to play football?" i asked, raising an eyebrow.

callum chuckled at my surprise. "yeah, i was a bit of a sporty kid." he said, a hint of pride in his voice. "i even played for a local football team for a while. i wanted to be a football player more than an actor." he admitted.

i playfully shoved his shoulder. "i don't believe you."

callum raised his hands in mock surrender, a smirk on his lips. "it's true! i had dreams of being a pro footballer. but then i realized i was way more charming than i was athletic and went for acting instead." he said jokingly.

i rolled my eyes, but couldn't help but laugh. "oh, is that so? you're just so charming that you had to switch careers?" i teased, playfully nudging him with my shoulder.

just then callum and i were interrupted by the sound of teenage giggles. we turned to see a group of girls, ranging in age from 15 to 17, standing awkwardly in front of us. one of the girls spoke up, her cheeks flushed pink. "we love you." she said looking at me.

callum chuckled beside me as the girls fawned over me, their eyes wide with awe. i couldn't help but smile amusedly. i was used to fans approaching me, after all, i was a jenner.

they asked for autographs and pictures, and i happily obliged, chatting with them and signing autographs. callum hung back, letting me have the spotlight. he seemed amused by the whole situation, watching with a smirk on his face.

after a few minutes, the girls thanked me and scurried away, giggling and chattering excitedly. i turned back to callum, rolling my eyes playfully. "see? mobbed by fans and i thought you said you'd protect me?"

callum chuckled, his gaze still amused. "i said i'd protect you from hordes of fans, not a group of teen girls." he pointed out. "plus, you seemed to be enjoying the attention."

i shook my head, feigning annoyance but unable to keep the smile off my face. "you're insufferable." i said, trying to sound serious but failing. my gaze fell on two guys, maybe in their early 20's skating over towards us.

the two guys came over and stopped in front of us, their skateboards in hand. "hey, you're callum turner, right?" one of them said, his eyes fixed on callum.

callum nodded, his eyes flickering curiously. "that's me." he confirmed, studying the two guys.

"we're huge fans of your movies, man." the other guy spoke up, a wide grin on his face. "can we get a picture?"

i smiled at the scene infront of me, clearly amused. "want me to take the photo?"

the guys looked at me for a moment, their eyes widening as they seemed to realize who i was. before either of them could respond, callum spoke up with a smirk. "yes, that would be great."

i couldn't help chuckling as i reached for the phone that one of the guys handed to me. i gestured for the guys to stand closer to callum, who had a smug smirk on his face.

i snapped a few photos of the three of them, their excitement and admiration clearly visible. once i was done, i handed the phone back to one of the guys, trying to contain my amusement.

"super weird question, but can i see your board?" i said gesturing to their skateboards.

the guys looked surprised at my request, but they both nodded eagerly. "yeah, sure!" the first guy said, holding up his board so i could get a closer look.

the board was worn and well-loved, with various scrapes and scratches on the wood. i could tell it had been used and abused, but was clearly a cherished possession.

"wanna prove it?" i asked callum referring to his skater past.

callum raised an eyebrow at my question, a glint of challenge in his eye. "prove it? you want me to prove that i can skate?" he asked, his tone playful.

the guys watching us looked at each other, clearly interested to see if callum could still ride a board.

i nodded, a smirk tugging at the corner of my lips. "yeah, i want to see if the golden boy still has it."

callum chuckled, clearly relishing the challenge. he stood up from the bench and stretched out his arms. "may i?" he asked the boys.

the blonde eagerly handed over his skateboard. both were clearly excited to see callum ride again. callum accepted the board with a nod of thanks and began to warm up, doing some small tricks and maneuvers.

he quickly fell into a smooth rhythm, his body moving with grace and ease as he glided across the concrete. he did a few ollies and shuv-its, clearly enjoying the feel of the board beneath his feet.

the guys watched in awe as callum executed a perfect kickflip, his movements fluid and practiced. even i had to admit, he was really good.

"show off." i called out jokingly.

callum shrugged as he did another trick. "you asked for proof," he pointed out. "i'm just giving you what you wanted."
he continued to skate around for a few more minutes, effortlessly weaving in and out of the park. he even did a few grinds on a nearby ledge, the sound of wheels on metal ringing out through the air.

the two guys watched in awe as callum completed trick after trick.

after a few more minutes, callum came to a stop in front of me, a smug grin on his face. "satisfied?" he asked, holding up the board.

i chuckled, shaking my head in playful defeat. "yeah. i'll admit, you've still got it." i said as he handed the board back to the guy who owned it.

"could you guys sign our boards?" one of the guys asked.

callum nodded. "of course, do you have a marker?" he asked the guys.

the two exchanged a look clearly not having markers, i stepped in pulling out my permanent marker from my pocket. "you judged me for carrying it around. but like i said, you never know when you're going to need it."

callam chuckled, shaking his head at my comment. "i stand corrected." he said, taking the marker from me.

he knelt down on the ground and began to sign the guys' boards, writing his name in neat cursive. the guys looked thrilled, watching as he marked their precious belongings.

after callum finished signing the guy's boards, he stood up and turned to me.

"your turn, kace." he said with a playful smirk, holding out the marker.

"oh, how kind of you." i joked, taking the marker from him.

i knelt down on the ground next to the two guys, who looked at me with excitement. i found a free space on the back of the board and began to write my name in my own neat and elegant handwriting.

the guys watched as i signed my name, their eyes wide with excitement. "thank you so much!" one of them said, clearly starstruck.

callam chuckled, clearly enjoying the whole scene. "no problem, guys." he said, patting one of them on the shoulder.

the guys thanked us again and headed off, eagerly holding their autographed skateboards. callum and i stood up and watched as they skated away, their excitement visible even from a distance.

i turned to callum with a smirk. "now that was entertaining." i said.

callum chuckled, shoving his hands in his pockets. "yeah, those guys were definitely stoked." he said, his eyes still watching them skate away.

i chuckled and took a step closer to him. "and it seems like you enjoyed showing off." i teased playfully, poking his chest.

callum smirked at my comment, his eyes glinting with playful arrogance. "what can i say? i like to impress." he said, shrugging nonchalantly. "come on, let's head out." he said as he held his hand for me to take.

i rolled my eyes at his cocky response, but couldn't help smiling as i took his hand, his fingers linking with mine as we walked.

"paps." i muttered as i looked at the paparazzi in front of us.

callum followed my gaze and let out an exasperated sigh. "great. just what we need." he muttered, his grip on my hand tightening.

as we started walking forward, the paparazzi began to shout and snap pictures. callum and i ignored them, my head facing downwards.

callum's grip on my hand remained tight, his fingers wrapping protectively around mine. we continued walking, trying to ignore the cameras and the questions being shouted at us. "are you and callum together?" "is it serious?" "when are you planning to get married?" "kacey, look this way!!"

i rolled my eyes. i hate this part of fame, i thought to myself.

callum leaned down and spoke softly in my ear. "just keep walking. they'll get bored eventually." he whispered.

despite his casual tone, i could feel the tension in his body as he continued to shield me from the paparazzi. his hand never left mine, his grip remaining firm and protective.

we made our way to his land rover that he ushered me into before getting into the drivers seat.

once we were safely inside the car, callum let out a sigh of relief, his shoulders relaxing as he turned over the engine.

"sorry about that." he said, shooting me an apologetic look. "they can be relentless."

i shook my head, dismissing his apology. "it's not your fault." i said, leaning back in my seat. "i'm used to it."

it was true, i had been dealing with the paparazzi since i was a child. but it still bothered me, especially when they got so invasive and personal.

callum nodded in understanding, his eyes still scanning the surroundings outside as he pulled out of the parking lot. "it still sucks." he said, his jaw clenching as he saw a few more paparazzi lingering nearby.

we drove in silence for a moment, neither of us speaking as we both tried to shake off the encounter with the paps.

after a few minutes, callum broke the silence. "so, where to next?" he said, trying to lighten the mood.

i shrugged. "surprise me."  i said, looking out the window at the city passing by.

callum chuckled at my response. "surprise you, huh?" he asked, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as if he was deep in thought.

after a few moments, his face lit up with an idea. "i think i have something in mind." he said, glancing over at me with a mischievous grin.

i raised an eyebrow quizzically. "oh really?" i said, a curious smile playing at the corners of my lips. "what exactly do you have in mind, mr. turner?"

callum chuckled and shook his head, refusing to give me any hints. "you'll see." he said, keeping his eyes focused on the road.

he continued driving, making some unexpected turns and taking back roads. i had no idea where we were going, but the suspense was killing me.

COUNTRYSIDE
london, england
4pm

after driving for about an hour, callum finally pulled onto a dirt road that led into the countryside. the road was bumpy, and i held onto the handle above the window to steady myself.

callum had a small smile on his face, clearly enjoying the anticipation of the surprise. "we're almost there." he said, making another turn onto an even narrower dirt road.

the road grew even rougher, and i could feel the car bouncing over the uneven terrain. i peered out the window, trying to catch a glimpse of our destination.

but all i could see was tall grass and trees on either side of the road. what the hell is he planning? i thought to myself, my curiosity growing.

"you taking me out here to kill me?" i joked as i looked at the scenery.

callum chuckled at my joke, his eyes still focused on the road. "nah, if i wanted to kill you, i'd do it somewhere more interesting than this." he said.

finally, after a few more minutes of driving, callum pulled the car to a stop. he turned off the ignition and looked over at me with a smirk.

"we're here." he said, as he got out of the car.

i got out of the car and looked around. we were surrounded by tall grass and trees, in the middle of nowhere. i turned to callum with a raised eyebrow.

"this is your surprise?" i asked, looking around at the lack of...well, anything.

callum chuckled at my reaction, clearly amused by my lack of enthusiasm. "just trust me." he said, holding out his hand.

i hesitated for a moment, but then placed my hand in his. he laced his fingers through mine, his grip warm and reassuring.

he led me through the tall grass, walking towards a small clearing a few feet away.

as we reached the clearing, i saw that there was a picnic blanket set up in the middle, with a basket and a few other items placed on top. callum had clearly gone to a lot of trouble to set this up.

i looked at him in surprise, my eyes widening. "you did all this?" i asked, my tone laced with disbelief.

he shrugged. "had to do something while you were snoozing."

he led me over to the picnic blanket and motioned for me to sit down. i sat down cross-legged and took off my leather jacket. my eyes still taking in the scene.

callum sat down next to me and began pulling items out of the basket - sandwiches, a small salad, some cheese and crackers, and a few other snacks. "figured you might be hungry." he said, handing me a sandwich.

i smiled, "thank you...this is truly beautiful." i said before leaning into him. our lips met in a soft, gentle kiss. callum's fingers tangled in my hair, and i melted into him, closing my eyes.

after a few moments, we broke apart, breathing slightly heavier than before. callum looked at me, his eyes filled with tenderness.

he reached for the basket and pulled out a bottle of champagne, along with two glasses. he poured the champagne into the glasses and handed me one.

"to us." he said, clinking his glass against mine.

i smiled and nodded, "to us." i said before i took a sip of the champagne, feeling the bubbly liquid fizz on my tongue.
