I am back. And not only I am, my trusty inks are too!

Anyways. As some of you might now, when working traditionally I mainly use my markers or inks and watercolours. And since I'll be going back to boarding school soon, I decided to redraw "mindless" a piece that came into existence for inktober last year and has been framed and in my boarding school room ever since.

So I started pretty simple, by creating the lineart on my tablet, a I did last year. I find it funnc to compare the differences. I think my style has gotten more detailed and realistically proportioned... and all the people look so skinny xD

so yeah...... because I liked the lineart so much, here it is again, but without the 2o19 comparison:

So. I printed the thing out on watercolour paper, taped it to my trusty glass cutting board and started to shade... i obviously started with the face, since I always do faces, love faces and have the most experience in them.

I don't know why, but I love how his lips turned out... >>pokes lips of the very weirded out dude<<

I then continued with the jumper... and at this point I was contemplating to start again, since the jumper was really not looking good... you have no idea how much i cursed myself for doing those extra folds xD

I decided to keep on going and went back to the face to add some freckles, since that's just what I do >w<

so... I went in and then finally did the hair, making sure to keep it lighter where the smoke would be, and I went ahead to give him some blush O//w//O

And then............. yeah. I went over the jumper with a diluted wash of ink. And that was a mistake. Since I didn't add enough water and it turned out way darker than I wanted. In an attempt to rescue it, i went ahead and dabbed most of the dark wash away with a tissue... but that just evoked a thing i forgot about my trusty green ink: it turns yellow/blue when you attempt to raise some colour or blend it out with water. Usually a cool effect but it jus ruined the jumper even more than my stupid folds did.

Now I had that thing staring at me and I was really, really tempted to just start again. But at the same time I was lazy and essentially finished with the ink, so I just accepted it as it was and continued on. I also remembered, that I should finally give that smoke some colour.

Next up is the lineart. In my digital, shaded works the lineart is only secondary, but it is indeed very crucial for my traditional works.
So I got out my microns, faber castells and gelly rolls and started to add linework to this thing.

Essentially I use my black liners to add the lines, some extra texture and shadow, and then my white gellys for the highlights, more texture and that beautiful, beautiful contrast, that I just love so much, aaahhh.

The lining-phase is indeed the most fun to me, in traditional works. I don't know why, but it just makes the artwork come together, you know?

Anyways. I finished up the piece, ruining that hoodie even more on the side (that thing is a pure insult to my artistic abilities to draw clothing).
But even if the jumper looks, as though it were melting off of his body, I do indeed like the picture from the hood... the body-segment of him we could just... throw away to be fair.

So yeah! Here's another comparison to last years piece... and both pictures were taken in the evening with absolutely crappy lighting, so my apologies.
I also find it funny too see how much the ink has faded over it's time in the picture frame... let's hope that the redraw will last a bit longer (I will definetely nt put it directly in the sunlight this time.... that was a rlly bad idea...) ^-^"
