Mummy grabbed my suitcase from my hand, dragging it with her as she made her way to the trunk while I opened the yellow door and slipped into the warm car.
"Hello, Mister." I greeted, giving him a small wave as I moved towards the foggy window. He looked back at me, giving me a soft smile as he fixed his curly, dark brown hair. I smiled back, trying to ignore the uneasy feeling that formed up in stomach whenever I looked at him. I shook my head lightly, staring at his pastel rainbow sweater that seemed to be a bit too big on him. He couldn't possibly be a bad guy, right? No bad guy I've ever seen wore a rainbow sweater, maybe my stomach just upset.
"Hello, little one." He replied, his voice coming out a lot deeper than I expected it to be. "Spending time with your mother?" He looked back at me and I nodded, turning my attention towards the window. I looked at the blankets of snow that covered everything as more snow and more fell from the sky. It was like the snowflakes were performing, showing everyone the beautiful dance they had spent months perfecting.
"I hope you have fun." The driver remarked, snapping me out of my little daze. I lightly nodded, remembering that Papa had told me not to talk too much to strangers. I peered over at him as we waited for Mummy, my stomach still felt uneasy when he looked at me. Mummy opened the door and slammed it closed, a look of annoyance covered her face.
"All set?" He asked, quickly glancing back at us as Mummy sat down next to me.
"Yes." She softly answered, pulling me close to her as the driver nodded and began driving.
"Where to, Miss?" He asked, looking at the active streets of Seoul.
"KTX Seoul Station." She replied, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and leaning down close to my ear.
"Stay close to me when we get out of the car." She whispered, causing me to look up at her as confusion filled me. I whispered a small okay, knowing she would be mad if I didn't. The driver nodded, taking a few turns to get onto the right street, but as he did, I couldn't help but notice he kept glancing at me through the rear view mirror. I felt anxious like I was some sort of prey and he was the predator.
"How long till we get there?" I whispered as I laid my head on her lap. I glanced up at her as she gently began running her fingers through my soft, dark brown hair.
"Two and half hours, so we'll need to get take the bullet train, though, it might be bit much for you since you're easily scared." She explained in a hushed tone. "Also, a friend of mine lives in Busan, I'm sure you like him. So you'll have to be a good boy when we visit him, can you do that for Mummy?" I lightly nodded as drowsiness slowly crept up on me, making my eyes grow heavy.
"Good boy." She softly cheered, her fingers feeling like heaven against my scalp. "You're just like your father, everything about you reminds me of him." She sighed, "You both need someone to play with your hair to help you fall asleep. It seems like you didn't get anything from me... What a shame, my little Haneul." I curled close to her side, bring my legs against my chest as I gripped the end of her black dress-skirt, mentally telling myself she wouldn't leave me.
"Sleep well, Sunshine." She muttered, placing a gentle kiss on my forehead.
"Night, Mummy..." I mumbled, my words barely coming out as a whisper.
Suddenly, the clicking of something filled the silent taxi car.
"Continue to drive or I will shoot you." Mummy began. My breath silently hitched, scaring all the exhaustion from my body as I struggled not to let out a whimper. I opened my eyes a bit, only to see Mummy holding a black gun in her hand as she pointed it at the driver's side.
"Who do you work for?" Mummy asked. Her was voice deep and threatening as she pressed the gun further into his side. "You better be careful how you answer my questions. We wouldn't want a mess, would we?"
