Chapter 1 [Solo Mission]
You were sitting on the ground in front of the Armed Detective Agency's headquarters. It was late at night, around 3 a.m. All of your belongings were strewn about, and you were far too fatigued to gather them all up. You sat there, your hands covering your eyes as you felt the moisture of your uncontrollable tears that wouldn't stop streaming from your eyes.
You'd heard footsteps in your left ear, which had echoed. You could almost feel the aura of the person standing to your left, next to you.
Then this enigmatic figure crouched and offered a hand. You could hear their clothes shuffle slightly.
???
"... How do you feel about joining the Port Mafia..."
When you opened your eyes, you could see portions of the sidewalk through your fingers. Your hands slowly descended from your face, and you turned to face the person on your left.
There was considerable silence between the two of you. When you peered behind him, you could see a young blonde girl fiddling with this man's coat. Your gaze then returned to the man, who was still kneeling and lending a hand.
???
"... Y/N L/N."
As he gazed through your narrowed pupils, you looked into the serene man's eyes.
A few hours earlier, at noon. (Plain, bolded text indicates flashbacks, as said in the Intro)
Y/N L/N. For a long time, you've been a valuable member of the Armed Detective Agency. You and Dazai both did an excellent job, always accomplishing your missions successfully. You were always there to find Dazai whenever he went to do anything hazardous.
You had an uncontrollable special ability, and Dazai was the only one who could ever stop things from getting out of hand. You two were a match made in heaven.
When you originally joined the Armed Detective Agency, they rapidly became aware of your hazardous and uncontrollable ability.
Your ability gave you a tremendous deal of strength, but after a few minutes of exerting it, you'd lose control and start demolishing your surroundings, oblivious to the idea that you'd be harming others who were close to you.
The president gave Dazai the responsibility of teaching you how to control it. He did, however, have a special skill that was appropriate for your training.
This was the sole reason the two of you had become close and collaborated successfully.
Tanizaki
"Ah, Y/N! I've been looking all over for you."
You
"Really?... What's the occasion?"
You'd just walked through the door to find everyone working as usual, and you were examining their fast-typing hands. You leaned on the desk that Tanizaki worked at.
Tanizaki
"Here. It's a simple job, really, but they won't get off our backs about it. Sheesh, the police are chickens when it comes to these kinds of things."
You
"Oh, a bomber?... Are you sure this job is fit for me?"
Since you were a bomber yourself, you posed this question.
You've avoided activating your ability since it was unmanageable, and you'd have to have Dazai with you at all times if you used it. This was one of your duo's drawbacks. You promised Dazai that you would never use it unless he was there and had permitted you to do so. As an alternative, you deployed bombs.
You could have assumed that placing a bomber against another bomber wasn't the best idea. You might as well just end up blowing up the entire world if this happens.
Tanizaki
"I mean... I understand that you're a bomber too, but everyone else is occupied."
You
"... What about Ranpo?"
You
"... Tanizaki, look at him."
Both of you turned to see Ranpo, who was gradually shoveling chips in his mouth with his head literally leaning back on the top of the chair. It's Ranpo, after all, so this is to be expected.
Tanizaki
"... Right."
You
"Besides, Ranpo isn't the type of guy who's fit for this job. If you ask me, he might just be blown up in seconds."
Tanizaki
"Ehehe, you've got a point... So, are you up for the job?"
You
"I mean I guess so... Have you seen Dazai?"
Tanizaki
"Oh yeah, another thing about this job, I think you'll have to do this one solo"
You
"Huh?! You're kidding!"
You suddenly rammed your fists into the desk, frightening the shit out of Tanizaki.
Tanizaki
"O-Oh! Well- It's just that... Dazai's actually out with Atsushi and Kunikida right now... They're already occupied with a job."
Tanizaki spoke, with the jitteriest expression and the most awkward chuckle you've ever heard.
You
*Sigh* "Tanizaki, can't someone else do the job? You know I can't go out there on a mission without Dazai."
Tanizaki
"I've already told you everyone's occupied at the moment... Come on, going on a single solo mission can't be that bad. Hey, you don't even need to use your ability for this one, it's just some simple bomber."
You
"... I dunno man... I've never gone on a solo mission before."
Tanizaki
"Hm... I think you'll do great on a solo mission. Your bombs are extraordinary, I doubt you'll even get a single scratch on yourself."
You
"... Fine. I'll take the job."
You didn't want to upset Tanizaki and the citizens of Yokohama. It was just a bomber, right? What could've gone wrong?
So you packed your belongings, including all of your explosives, and left. Given that this was your first solo expedition, you were a little nervous. Dazai is absent. But it was as easy as that; there was no need for you to be alarmed.
The information that you were given was quite useful on your way. Usually, Dazai would take note of the information and you followed, so you weren't used to this.
According to the information you read, a bomber in the Yokohama area was boarding trains and blowing them up while they were in motion. The identity of this bomber is unknown since their face was obscured by a cloak in the surveillance footage.
You wandered down to the train station, looking for a hooded figure.
You
Could the bomber already be on the train?...
???
"Um... Excuse me..."
You felt a light tap on your shoulder.
You
"Hm?"
You turned around, still uneasy, and noticed a basic teenage boy with sorrowful eyes. His tone was light as well.
???
"Um... You dropped this."
Your bag was being held in the boy's hand, which you noticed. That was the same bag in which you kept all of your explosives.
You
"Oh!... Uh... Thank you. Huh, I hadn't even realized I dropped it."
