After reading the text from Miguel, Jamie tried calling him. She tried for hours and got no response. Even the texts she sent got no response. It was driving her crazy not knowing where Miguel was or if he was okay.

She barely slept that night and as soon as she could the next day, she went over to the Diaz apartment. She talked to Carmen and she seemed just as worried as Jamie was. Leaving Jamie with no real information about Miguel or his whereabouts.

As much as Jamie wanted to spend most of her summer in her room waiting for some kind of response from Miguel, she couldn't.

Every other summer, Jamie goes to visit her grandma on her father's side. Spending a couple of weeks there to spend time with them. So, instead of being home, she was with her family.

Jamie sat on her bed in her room. She opened her messages again hoping to have something from Miguel. Unfortunately, like usual, there was nothing. She sighs as she tosses her phone to the side.

She looks up as a knock is heard at her door. The door opens and Jamie smiles slightly.

"Hey, we're getting ready to go. You ready?"

"Yeah." Jamie nods as her cousin smiles. She grabs her phone and follows them out.

"Ugh." Sienna groans as she laid back against the bed. She sighs as she looks over at Eli. He sat in his desk chair playing a game with Demetri. She frowns when she realizes she hadn't got his attention.

In all honesty, she was miserable. With Jamie gone, she had no one to hang out with or talk to. Of course, she had other friends seeing as most people at school knew who she was.

But Jamie was her favorite.

She's never been attached to someone like she is with Jamie. They'd been friends since the sixth grade and Sienna hates every summer that Jamie had to leave to go with her other family.

Jamie had to hear about it months before she actually left. If Sienna could, she'd go with Jamie, but Jamie wouldn't let her.

So now she sat in Eli's room with absolutely "nothing to do."

"You know, if I'm just going to be sitting here miserable, I've could've done that in my own room." She says

Eli chuckles, "I asked you what you wanted to do and you said you wanted to jump off of a cliff. Not much I can do with that."

"It's much better than being by myself." She says

"Hold on, Demetri." Eli says in his mic. He takes his headset off and gets out of his chair before walking over and bending down by his bed, "What's wrong?"

"I miss Jamie." She whines, "What else am I supposed to do with my life when she's not here?"

"You have so many other people to hang out with. I've seen you lie to multiple people who have asked you to hang out these past couple of days."

"Because they're no fun." Sienna scoffs, "They're the most boring people on the planet. I don't even know how they have my number."

"Okay, well we could do something. Or you can text someone you actually like." Sienna looks over to him. He smiles softly before standing up, "Come on."

"What?"

"Come on." He says holding out his hand, "Let's go do something. Since I don't have karate classes anymore, we can do whatever."

"Like what?" She says as Eli pulls her up

"Anything." He says, "I can't see you wallow in your own self pity anymore."

"I hate you." She mutters as he laughs

Jamie sat at a table by herself. Her family was having an event at the park. Kind of like a family reunion, but not quite. After she had said hi to everyone, she went off to her own corner. Everyone laughing and dancing around her. Kids running back and forth playing with each other. She should've been having fun, but in all actuality, she would rather be by herself.

It wasn't really even because of Miguel. While it was a part of it, it wasn't the main reason. It was mostly because the family she was spending time with was her dad's side.

Jamie hadn't seen her dad in years. Her dad was apart of the military and was drafted a while ago from what she remembered. She missed him like crazy and would always ask her mom about him, but her mom would just say that he was drafted. Obviously, there are times when people come back and visit their family and leave again, but he never did.

It was really confusing for Jamie, but she just put it off as him being stationed elsewhere. The whole reason she wanted to come here was because she felt like she could maybe feel like she was around her father, but it never felt that way.

At this point, Jamie had decided she didn't even want to come anymore. As much as she loved her dad's side of the family, it hurt each time she came around and would hope that somehow her dad would appear. Of course, it never happened, but she always hoped it did.

Jamie's taken out of her thoughts by her phone ringing. She looks down and almost jumps out her skin when she sees Miguel's picture on her screen. She quickly answers.

"Miguel?" She says

"Jamie?" He says. Jamie sighs as she stands up from the table and walks away from her family.

"Oh my god. I was so worried about you. Are you okay?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm okay."

"Where are you? I've been trying to call and stuff, but you wouldn't answer."

"Yeah, look, I-I just didn't want anyone to know where I was until I found my dad."

Jamie nods to herself, "Okay, that's fair. Did you find him?"

"Well, that's," He pauses, "That's actually why I'm calling right now. The process has been harder than I expected."

"Well, we're all really worried about you. Your mom is so worried. You just left without telling anyone where you were going."

"Well, I knew if I told you, you'd try to stop me."

"Because we care about you. We just don't want anything to happen to you, Miguel. Your mom and grandma left Ecuador to get away from your dad. They probably did it for a good reason."

"I-" He starts. Jamie hears something slam in the background.

"You okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah, um. It's nothing."

Jamie sighs, "Miguel, I'm not saying that you don't have a right to look for him. I'm just saying that anything could happen. I don't want to you get hurt."

"I know and I'm sorry for worrying you. I don't mean to, I just need to know who he is."

Jamie looks around as she takes a deep breath, "I get it. Will you just please call your mom and let her know you're okay? She's freaking out even more than I am."

"I will. I just wanted to let you know first."

"Yeah." She mutters. Miguel can tell that she's still upset by the tone of her voice, "Uh, listen, I have to go, but text me, okay?"

"Yeah, okay."

"Okay." She says nodding to herself, "Miguel?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you." She says softly

"I love you more, Jamie."

Jamie smiles, "Bye."

"Bye."

Jamie hangs up before putting her phone in her back pocket. She sighs as she turns back to her family.
