"They do know that this is just gonna make it worse right?" Sienna whispers with raised brows

"I mean, I guess. At least they're trying to help." Jamie shrugs

"They're just trying to cover their ass incase something happens to that kid. They don't actually care about Elliot."

Jamie turns to her with a look of confusion, "Elliot? Who's Elliot?"

"The kid over there by your true love." Sienna nods at Miguel's table

Jamie looks and sighs, "His name is Eli."

"Who cares? It still applies." Sienna says

"But today, our goal here is to make this school a safe space for all students." The teacher smiles. Sienna rolls her eyes as Jamie chuckles at her, "Oh and one last thing. While we're all looking forward to the Halloween dance, let's make sure our costumes are culturally sensitive. For example," The teacher continues, "instead of "sexy nurse" maybe try 'gender-neutral hospital employee'."

"Who gives a shit about any of this? No one is listening anyway." Sienna groans

"Sienna." Jamie sighs

"What? It's true." She exclaims

"We are absolutely going to the dance." Sienna says as they sit at Jamie's locker between classes.

"No, I'm not. I'm not gonna watch as guys just completely drool over you and fall at your feet. Watching you flirt is awkward." Jamie complains

"It's not awkward. Don't be jealous." Sienna laughs

"Not jealous." Jamie jokes

"You are." Jamie looks at Sienna and sighs as someone walks up behind her

"Hey." Miguel says

Jamie turns and instantly smiles, "Oh, hi, Miguel."

"Hi." Miguel says to Sienna. Sienna smiles as she turns to look at Jamie.

"What's going on?" Jamie asks

"Oh, nothing much. I actually wanted to ask you something." Miguel explains

"Yeah, sure." Jamie exclaims

"My karate dojo is looking for recruits." Miguel starts

"Karate?" Jamie repeats

"Yeah, uh, my sensei is super legit and I'm sure I could maybe get you a discount."

"Oh." Jamie says

"Maybe you too, if you're interested." Miguel asks Sienna

"Absolutely not." Sienna says quickly. Jamie's eyes widen as she watches Miguel deflate.

"Oh, okay." Miguel says lowly

"I'll um," Jamie starts as Miguel turns to her, "I'll think about it."

"Really?" Miguel smiles

"Yeah, sports isn't really my thing, but it could be fun?" Jamie shrugs

"Yeah, okay. Well, just let me know."

"Sure."

"Okay, I'll see you later." Miguel says as the bell rings

"Yeah, cool." Jamie smiles as Miguel walks to his next class. Jamie sighs as she looks at Sienna, "Don't even say anything." Jamie says closing her locker

"I didn't even start to speak." Sienna scoffs as they walk to their next class

"Your face said everything." Jamie rolls her eyes as Sienna grins

The next couple of days went by pretty quickly. Jamie was absolutely dreading this Halloween dance, but Sienna quite literally forced her to go.

"How can you physically have frown on your face right now? You're literally Simon from Alvin and the Chipmunks." Sienna complains

"We don't even have Theodore with us." Jamie sighs

"Who cares? She's around here somewhere." Sienna says waving her hands around, "Can you just enjoy this please? Have some kind of fun for one night."

"There are so many other places I'd rather be right now. I have no interest in a school dance, Sienna honestly." Jamie says. Jamie watches as Sienna sighs hopelessly. Now, she feels bad, "But, I'll try to slightly enjoy myself because watching Alvin be sad is the weirdest thing ever."

"Yay." Sienna exclaims, "Come on. I'm sure there's someone's costume we can laugh at." Sienna says as she pulls Jamie further into the gym

Jamie wanders around aimlessly hoping to find some sort of entertainment. She lost Sienna when she said she'd "be right back" around twenty minutes ago.

"Jamie?" She hears. She turns and sees Miguel standing with Demetri and Eli.

"Hey. Cool costume. Skeleton is a classic." She smiles

"Yeah, thank you. Uh, Simon's my favorite." He chuckles looking her over.

"Yeah, mine too." She laughs as she looks over towards the other boys. "I like your costumes." She tries with a smile

"Thank you." Eli stutters

"Yeah, thanks." Demetri says sarcastically

"Necromancers are cool. Surgeons too." She chuckles awkwardly

"At least she knows what a necromancer looks like." Demetri exclaims at Miguel

Miguel rolls his eyes and turns back to Jamie. "So, have you thought about maybe joining the dojo?"

"Oh, um, well I have given some thought, I just haven't really made a decision yet." Jamie says

"Yeah, that's fine. I get how weird it could sound joining karate, but I swear it's so cool."

"Well, I promise I will think about it some more and actually have a decision for you the next time we talk." She laughs

"No rush." Miguel says putting his hands up

"Jamie!" Someone exclaims. Jamie turns to see Sienna waving her over.

"Oh, that's my cue. I'll see you around." Jamie smiles

"Yeah, I'll see you later." Miguel nods 

"Bye." Jamie says to the other boys as they wave back to her. She makes her way through the crowd towards Sienna. In the process, she catches the eye of a girl named Aisha.

"Hey, Jamie." Aisha smiles

"Hi, Aisha." Jamie waves

She looks over to see Sam standing next to her. Her smile falters slightly as she sees Sam attempt to wave at her. She ignores her and continues to make her way to Sienna.

It had been awhile of talking and drinking ungodly amounts of disgusting punch and Jamie's social battery was completely dead. She was ready to go home and never speak of a party ever again. Sienna and Jamie were talking about god knows what when their phones went off.

Jamie's heart dropped when she looked down and saw a video making fun of Aisha. She looked around until her eyes landed on her next to the snack table. She frowned as she watched Aisha make a bee line for the gym doors.

"What the hell is wrong with people?" Sienna exclaimed as she watched Yasmine laugh

Jamie sighed looking over at Yasmine, Sam, and Moon, "And she isn't doing anything about it either." She said referring to Sam

"It's because she doesn't care. She's worried about her dumbass friends and her stupid popularity." Sienna says rolling her eyes, "If I ever act like that, kill me instantly."
