"Hey, sweetheart. I'm gonna be going on a business trip this week. I'll leave some money for food and anything else you need." Jamie's mother says

Jamie looks up from her position at the kitchen table and frowns, "Business trip? We were supposed to be doing the dinner this Friday remember?" Her mom's eyes widened as she's suddenly reminded, "Mom, you've put this off for weeks now. You're the one who came up with the whole idea."

"I know sweetheart. I'm sorry, but this could be really good for us." She says walking up to Jamie

"You've said that about every trip so far that's cut into the time you say you want to spend together." Jamie sighs

"Honey-"

"I should get going. I'm gonna be late." Jamie says standing up

"I'll make it up to you, sweetie. I promise." Her mom says watching Jamie open the apartment door.

"I'm sure you will. Have a good trip." Jamie says closing the door

As Jamie comes down the stairs she sees Miguel standing in the parking lot. "Hey, Miguel."

Miguel turns as the corners of his lips rise slightly, "Hey, Jamie."

Jamie gasps upon seeing his face. He had a huge bruise around his eye and a bandaid covering a cut above his eyebrow.

"What the hell happened?" Jamie says coming closer

"Oh, uh, it's nothing. Don't worry about." Miguel says waving her off

"It sure doesn't look like nothing. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm okay." Miguel says. Jamie continues to look him over causing Miguel to shift slightly, "Jamie." Miguel says softly. She looks up at him with concern written on her face. "I'm okay."

She sighs as she goes to change the subject, "Okay, well. What about the whole karate thing? I actually thought about it and thought that maybe I'll join."

"Actually, about that." He starts, "There are some- difficulties, but I'm sure it's just temporary."

"Oh." She frowns

"Yeah, but I'll definitely let you know when everything is back on track." He smiles

"Yeah, okay. Just text me then?"

"Yeah, no problem."

"Okay." She says as she goes to make her way to school.

"Wait, Jamie."

She turns quickly, "Yeah?"

"I don't have your number."

"Oh, right." She says walking back as Miguel chuckles. He pulls out his phone and hands it to her.

"As soon as you get updates," She starts typing her number, "Let me know." She finishes as she hands the phone back

"Absolutely." He nods with a smile

"Okay, I'll see you later."

"Did you see the views on that video of Aisha?" Sienna says as she stands at Jamie's locker

"No."

"She's gone viral, dude. It's insane." She says shaking her head

"Of course. Yasmine posted it." Jamie sighs, "Now she's being terrorized simply for existing."

Jamie and Sienna make their way to latter's locker. Then they hear a bunch of students start to make pig noises. They look over to the staircase and see Aisha push her way through the students. A student next to the girls starts to laugh at the kids making fun of Aisha.

"I will literally kill you and feed you to the zombies in the next apocalypse." Sienna exclaims. The kid's eyes widen as they scramble away.

"That video has literally ruined her life." Jamie complains as they finally get to Sienna's locker

"I swear I'm gonna find some blackmail on her."

"And how do you plan on doing that?" Jamie chuckles

"You forget I know a lot of people."

"No, a lot of people know you." Jamie corrects

"Same thing really. Either way I'll find something." Sienna scoffs as Jamie laughs

Jamie exhales softly as she walks through the aisles to find a book she needed for some homework. She had an off period. Unfortunately, Sienna had a class, so she was left in the library alone.

As she's looking through the books, she's sees someone walking towards her from the corner of her eye. She turns to see Sam walking into the aisle. She sighs and she shuts her eyes in annoyance. She goes back to looking through the books. Trying to ignore the girl as much as possible.

"Hey, Jamie." She hears. Jamie continues to ignore her, "How have you been?"

Jamie cuts her off, "Sam, we're not friends, so don't even try to act like we are."

"We were before." Sam tries again

"That was so long ago. Trust me that ship has sailed."

"I've apologized for everything. I don't know how much more I can do."

"And yet you're still friends with people who made my life a living hell."

"It wasn't intentional. It just happened."

"Did Kyler just happen too? Who was yet another person who made my life a living hell." Jamie chuckles humorlessly

"I'm sorry, Jamie-" Sam starts

She's cut off by a loud laugh coming from the other side of the book shelf. The two girls look over and see Kyler and one of his friends messing with Miguel, Demetri, and Eli.

"Oh, look at this freak." Kyler laughs as he holds Eli's face, "Oh, shit. What girl would ever kiss this shit?" He continues referring to Eli's lip

His friend laughs as Jamie frowns looking towards Sam. Sam continues watching him.

"Leave him alone, Kyler." Miguel says

"What'd you say?" Kyler says as he pushes Eli to the side and walks towards Miguel, "You haven't had enough 'Rhea? Huh?" He says as his friend hits Miguel's arm with a book

Miguel starts to turn away, "Yeah." Kyler says pushing him back, "Get the hell out of here, man."

Eli is pushed toward Miguel. Demetri tries to walk away before he's pulled back by Kyler.

"You don't want this shit." Kyler says grabbing his backpack

"No, come on, not the trash. I just threw a-" He's cut off by Kyler tossing his backpack in the trash, "yogurt in there."

He grabs his backpack out of the trash. Jamie's face scrunches and she sees it's covered in yogurt.

"Now it's double dip." Kyler jokes as his friend laughs

Demetri walks out of the library quickly. Kyler and his friend slowly make their way towards the door, "Oh, that was a burn, Ky. Oh, God."

"Dumb shit." Kyler mumbles

Sam and Jamie watch as they walk out.

"And those are the people you choose to hang out with. Remember that, Sam." Jamie scoffs. Sam watches with a frown as Jamie walks away.

"You sure you can't come hang out with us?" Sienna says as she and Jamie are walking out of school.

"No, I have a shift tonight." Jamie says sympathetically

"Oh, yeah. It must be fun having a job."

"Absolutely not." She says with a slight shake of her head.

Sienna laughs and she starts to walk away, "Well, I will miss you and I hope you don't have any fun without me."

"Oh, so lovely of you." Jamie says sarcastically

"Bye, babe." Sienna yells

"Bye." Jamie chuckles as she turns away

Jamie's smile falters as she sees Miguel sitting in a car with a saddened look on his face. She watches as they drive away.
