Action! - Ruby Stokes x Reader
For the lovely @blondelust (sorry I forgot your one shot)
---
It all started on a rainy day in central london. I was visiting the city and there just so happened to be an open casting call for a new Netflix show.
I was never one to be spontaneous but I figured I might as well give it a go.
Well, two script reads and a chemistry session later, I became a side character in the Netflix show Lockwood and Co.
I was able to stay in the UK for an extended period of time because of my new job.
I discovered that not only would I be paid very well for this job, but also that the leads for the show were extremely attractive.
I was playing Quill Kipps younger sister Quincy. She was a very sassy character and also the love interest for Lucy.
On set, Ali and Cameron would always tease me when Ruby wasn't around. It was like they knew I liked her.
When Ruby and I had scenes together, I didn't have to act, the feelings were already there.
One of my favorite scenes to shoot was when Quincy had to leave Quill and she ran to Lockwood and Co for safety. Quincy ended up staying in Lucy's room and they nearly kissed before George interrupted.
Quincy was everything that I wasn't. She was brave, bold and fierce.
I was shy, scared and nervous any time I was around Ruby.
Today we were doing some of the last scenes in the show and I was grabbing my new script to read through it.
Quincy and Lucy are walking along the river, reflecting the crazy last few days and all of their near death experiences.
They come to a small bridge where no one else is and a decide to look out at the waters.
Lucy begins talking about her life before Lockwood and Co.
Lucy: I'd never felt more at home than I do at Lockwoods. Him and George are like the family I never had.
(Pause)
Lucy: do you want to know the best part about being here in London?
Quincy: what's the best part?
(Quincy smirks)
Lucy looks at Quincy.
Lucy: well I guess you already know
(Lucy smiles, Quincy leans in and kisses her)
Camera pans up, cut to Lockwood and George.
I finished reading the script, but barely processed it as I realized what I had to do.
This was my job, I could be professional, couldn't I?
I got up from where I was sitting and went to see Jack Bandiera. He played my brother and since we had so many scenes together he basically became my actual brother.
Jack usually hid away in his trailer when he was reading a script so he could read it out loud.
I didn't care. I burst in just as he was talking out loud about Lockwoods underwear in his script.
"Jack, we have an issue."
"Dear lord. Y/n, we've talked about this. I could have been getting changed again."
I rolled my eyes. "Don't care. Anyway, I need you to read my script for today's scene.
Jack rolled his eyes in response and sassily snatched my script. He skimmed the script and I could feel his demeanor change.
"You have to kiss Ruby today?" Jack asked. "Are you okay with that?"
I blushed. "I'm more than okay with it. But I'm scared that if I go through with this, it won't be the same between us. I really like Ruby and I wish we were more than friends but this is our job. I can't put my feelings first. All I'll ever be is y/n to her," I sighed, plopping down on a chair.
"Y/n, you can't be afraid of this. Ruby is, well, Ruby. She is your friend and no matter what, she won't judge you. Believe me, I wouldn't be telling you this if I didn't truly think it would all be okay."
Jack gave me a reassuring head pat and I took another deep sigh.
I left jack and went back to my trailer to finish getting ready.
It was only thirty minutes later that I got called to set to do my scene. I nervously chewed gum the whole way there because I didn't want my breath to smell for the kiss scene. It also calmed me a bit, making my nerves only slightly heart attack inducing.
I got to the green screen set for the bridge scene and ruby was already there. Cameron and Ali were sitting off to the side waiting for their cue.
"Action!"
I began my role as Quincy and walked with Lucy along the 'river'. We stop at the bridge and look down at the water below. Ruby began Lucy's monologue and I watched her with a pained expression, not hearing her words but feeling the emotions the scene came with. I snapped back when the pause in Lucy's dialog came.
"Do you want to know what the best part about my job is?" Ruby asked, changing the wording of the script slightly.
I couldn't help but smile.
"What's the best part Luce?" I smirked, trying to stay on script.
"I guess you already know. Everyday I wake up and my motivation, well, her name is Quincy," Ruby blushes.
I stayed in character as I pulled Ruby towards me by the belt of her rapier holder.
We kissed and I could feel fireworks. Ruby intertwined her hand in mine and then I heard CUT being yelled.
I pulled away but then Ruby pulled me close and gave me one last peck on the lips.
I stood there stunned and turned to the camera and everyone off set.
The camera crew and other cast seemed unbothered.
Jack gave me a thumbs up and I slowly walked over to him.
"I think I'm gonna pass out J," I huffed out shakily, raising a hand to my lips.
"You did it though. Props to you. I could not have done that being in your place," he patted me on the back supportedly.
"Then why did you tell me to do this?" I asked.
His blue eyes gleamed and then he pointed to someone behind me.
I turned and saw Ruby holding two mugs of tea in her hand with a smile on her face.
"Do you want to talk?" She asked me.
Jack pushed me forward.
"Sure."
I walked with Ruby to the edge of the set and we sat down on some folding chairs.
She handed me a mug and I saw that it was my favorite tea, steeped in water that wasn't too hot.
"I'm sorry I kissed you twice." Ruby blurted out just as I said, "I'm sorry I'm so awkward around you."
We both laughed nervously.
I spoke up first, finally gaining some confidence. "I really like you Ruby. I don't want to ruin our friendship but I just thought you should know so our scenes aren't filled with too much tension."
Ruby took my hand.
"Y/n, I also really like you. And I am still sorry about kissing you for a second time but now that I know you like me as well I don't feel as bad."
"After this scene I'm free until the afternoon. Do you want to maybe hang out while we wait for Cam and Ali?" I asked Ruby, a blush spreading across my face.
Ruby grinned, squeezing my hand. "I'd really like that."
I smiled and then hesitantly leaned in and Ruby did the same.
We kissed again and I internally screamed. It felt even more magical than the first time. We both began giggling like school girls and then walked off set to hang out together.
After filming wrapped, I already knew I would want to spend the rest of my life with Ruby.
But for now we'd take it each 'Action' at a time.
