Monday, the radiant wings of sun flew through the sky
"I'm gonna make it smile smile smile away"
- SMILEY (feat Bibi), Yena
<two months later>
"Look at those two cuddling away...! I swear JinRin is going get it from me one day... one day" Chaewon groaned out, watching as her best friend get all lovey-dovey with her boyfriend.
"I'm sure she remembers..." Ji Geon sighed, pursing her lips in disappointment.
"It's fine we have each other" Ji Geon gleefully said as she hooked arms with the girl who is starting to totally lose her temper.
"I can't believe she's missing our girl's day out for a guy! What happened to the girl code!"
"I mean to be fair...both of us did ditch her once-"
"Wait- you missed the important part, it was Haechan's birthday, I can't miss it!" Chaewon defensively muttered out.
"I have an even more valid reason than the both of you, hm"
"Fine fine you win girl"
"But still when are you guys getting together?" Ji Geon smirked as she teased the girl beside her whose cheeks turned red at the mention of the topic.
"Shut up! Let fate lead the way you know...maybe someday it'll just happen" Chaewon sighed whilst squatting down in front of the door and Ji Geon followed thereafter.
"What will happen my two dear friends"
The sudden voice startled the two girls who only then realised the couple had already made their way out of the music room.
"Sorry I'm late he had to tell me something important" JinRin gave an embarrassed smiled whilst lifting her two friends up to their feet.
"Come on stop with your glares, I might get a heart attack one day from you guys"
"Or from me" Jaemin winked as he gave JinRin a tight hug before the couple parted their way.
"Get a room!" Chaewon cringed at the sight as Ji Geon squinted her eyes shut in disgust.
"Get a guy" JinRin retorted and unsurprisingly, the girls had a heated debate on why whether being taken is good or not.
"I swear the both of you have this debate every single week" Ji Geon groaned in annoyance, coming up with the same solution each time to break up the fight.
"What's you're advice then?" Chaewon huffed out.
"Confess" JinRin said simply, looking at Ji Geon who also nodded in agreement.
"Easy for you to say"
"It's not my fault we have an old-couple romance" JinRin quipped, smiling to herself dreamily.
"That day was like a fairytale, too good to be true but that's what makes it unique and magical" The girl stated in such a way that she seemed to be narrating a children's storybook.
"Here we go again" Ji Geon grinned as she lay her shoulders on Chaewon's, watching fondly as JinRin narrated the beginning of her youthful yet soulful romance.
——————————
She could hear her heart thumping and ears ringing, palms glossed up with sweat and knees tightly locked in place.
"Lee JinRin!"
Thunderous applauds filled the room as the newly elected Chairman stood up to give her speech.
No way.
Taking a deep breath, the girl saw the seven boys and her two best friends clapping and whistling her name.
JinRin had to bite her lips to test waters- whether this was all just her dream.
For a village girl who couldn't take care of her alcoholic dad and caused her mum no much trauma, she doubt she's suitable to take up such a gigantic role.
Not that she cannot handle the burden- the worry mostly lies on her reputation.
JinRin muttered silent prayers to herself, hoping everything will go as she wished for and would deliver her unplanned speech ceaselessly.
From a far, her eyes caught on a particularly happy boy who face rejoiced the word 'proud'.
Her short eye-contact with Jaemin made her wish this dream could last forever- it'll be her happy ever after.
A tint of pink coloured her cheeks unknowingly as she went up and gave her first Chairman speech.
——————————
"Oh my gods JinRin babe, why do you always bring this scene up" Chaewon whined, head still on Ji Geon's crying shoulder.
"Probably my fifth time hearing her whine and the hundredth time hearing this story" Ji Geon sighed but nonetheless her smile wavered.
"Hurry on to the best part"
——————————
"You have a smile worth millions but I wouldn't buy them because the world deserve to see it"
"Let your worries fly by you like how you pass your tested with flying colours"
"What's your favourite colour? Is it yellow— because you brighten up my world every day"
"You're the Chairman of the student council, but you're also my Queen"
Piles of letter came flying down— exploding out of her locker.
"JinRin! You hadn't told me your secret admirer is still sending you messages. Oh my gods he must be head over heels for you babe!" Chaewon squealed in excitement for what's to come for her best friend.
"I can't believe you're growing up so fast-"
"Shut up Chaewon, you're older than me by only a month"
"A month makes a world of a difference you know"
"You do you" JinRin rolled her eyes jokingly at Chaewon as the two read through all the letters.
"Can you recognise the hand-writing?" JinRin asked Chaewon- hoping to find a lead.
"I can't even recognise my own handwriting" Chaewon winked at JinRin who rolled her eyes in return.
JinRin was very curious about who it was.
Someone who could play around his words easily, is witty, charismatic and confident?
Sounds like Prince Charming to her.
"Anyways why are you suddenly looking through your locker? You never ever do that" Chaewon queried suspiciously, thinking something bad might have happened again.
After all, their lives for the past few days had been a total chaos. Too much shit to explain.
"I made a request to shift lockers"
"What why? Aren't we locker buddies..." Chaewon's voice drifted off, like a lonely boat floating in the Pacific Ocean- off to nowhere.
"To cut down on the school bills won-ah, you know my mother is back and my dad is slowly cutting down his habit-"
The girl gave JinRin a big hug.
While she shoved something into JinRin pocket, unbeknownst to the girl.
"Don't worry too much Rin-ah, your life is going to get better, not more miserable"
"It has always been more miserable" JinRin sighed hopelessly nonetheless.
——————————
"Chaewon literally gave it away"
"No I didn't"
"Your life is going to get better, right after receiving the Chairman role" Ji Geon nodded her head sarcastically, imitating Chaewon's words.
"I didn't suspect anything though...I must have been delusional and so dense"
"But you'll have to thank me still, remember my words?"
"How could I forget Chaewon? You remind me that every day" JinRin groaned as she's hear Chaewon rambled on how she was the first person to know about JinRin's love story.
"Are you trying make me play cupid?"
"Oh come on Haechan and I aren't like that!"
"Rin didn't mention the guy's name" Ji Geon perked her eyebrows up.
"Hey what's going on with you and Mark recently" Chaewon retorted back only to find Ji Geon denying all sorts of claims.
"Okay back to the story!"
——————————
On that fortunate day, around 6am sharp, the boy contemplated whether to carry out his plan or not.
His plans always go sideway so he has trust issues with himself.
He decided not to.
But still went back and forth in the corridor, temptation rising like the kettle whistling for the owner to stop the fire.
That was the day Ji Geon came back.
And was the day JinRin's world started crumbling down.
Not the best timing
Jumping back to the present, Jaemin still had trust issues with himself but has gained enough courage to take the leap of faith.
When the girl was clearing up her locker, placing her over-washed cardigan into the basket alongside her boundless of stationary given her students, her eye caught something falling from her locker.
Weird.
A piece of paper?
JinRin managed to catch the paper free-falling from the air and gently inspected the paper.
It was an envelope, secured by a minute sticker.
"Must be another one of those letters...could it be Chaewon's pranks- no she wouldn't have the consistency to carry that out."
"Wait could it be Sewon?"
Gulping down the bulge which had formed in her throat, she slowly opened the envelope as if it was the results for her College emission.
The whole world froze around her as she felt her pulse vibrating throughout the thin slip of paper.
"Dear JinRin,
I'm closer than you think, whether is it in the rankings or the proximity of our handwritings.
Never once have I regretted writing these letters to you— hoping one day a reply will magically appear.
But at the same time, who would reply to an unknown message... I could be anyone in school, even the Teachers (just joking)
Thank you for being apart of my journey, through thick and thin, especially solving the most problematic part of my life.
Right now, what's missing in my life is you, JinRin.
All the past letters only came from deep down my heart.
I hope you'll give your secret admirer a chance :)
You know where to find me (you should've already guessed my identity)"
——————————
"Why are you reading that from your phone?"
"He typed it all out on the day of our first month anniversary, I guess to remind ourselves how far we've come and how far there is to go"
"You both are meant to be" Ji Geon smiled whilst placing her hands on JinRin's.
"Isn't Jaemin your ex— ouch!"
"Learn to be more sensitive" JinRin rolled her eyes, slightly pursing her lips awkwardly.
"Guys it's fine, we've moved on and clarified that it wasn't a real relationship" Ji Geon reassured.
"The right time will come for each of us and for me the time hasn't come yet."
"Well said"
"Also, just saying— I can't believe we've been through all that shit- "
"Kdrama for real though"
"Being stabbed isn't fun"
"Being kidnapped isn't part of the script either"
"But falling in love is"
"Okay, we're done"
"I love you guys so much" Chaewon gleefully mumbled, embracing the three in a tight squad huddle.
"Us too"
"JinRin do not say anything-"
"But Jaemin equally as well"
