Nine

"What is wrong?" Isra asked.

She comes often. Over the past year, I've been talking with her. It usually got my mind of Rayla being gone, but...

"She's back." I say.

"Oh? She finally returned." She said.

I nod.

I sat up from my bed. What am I going to do? I want to kiss her, but I can't because I'm so hurt from how she left. I have starred down to the ground a thousand feet high wondering if I can end the pain with one single leap.

"I'm glad you didn't do something crazy like throwing yourself off the balcony."

"I don't know what I'm going to do."

"Fulfill your destiny. You said it yourself you have none. You can be the greatest mage who'd ever lived."

"How?"

Isra sighed.

"Old age affects us all. I have lived for billions of years. I need someone to take my place." She pointed her staff at me.

I grip my head.

"I... I don't know what I'm going to do."

"You do. You have always known at least I know what you are going to do." Isra walked over to me.

She lifted my chin up.

"Become me. Become a living god. No one would dare stand against you. You can do what you wish. You can bring them onto their knees."

"I don't want this."

"Fate often tests those."
