The Bite

A groan was heard from the bed as a hand reached for the alarm clock. After a few fumbles, the hand finally hits the top of the clock, turning it off.
Wayne Russell slowly sat up while rubbing his face, revealing himself to be wearing a pair of shorts and a Brooklyn shirt. He looked around his bedroom, which contained a single bed, a closet, and a desk, which contained a lot of electronic parts as well as a multimeter, an electric soldering iron, and a 2-monitor computer.
Wayne got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and freshen up. Once he did, he got out and placed a suitcase on his bed. He put in his spare uniform, several sets of underwear, shorts, and T-shirts. He then grabbed his backpack and placed his books, school supplies, and laptop in it. He then put on his Brooklyn Visions Academy uniform before exiting his bedroom.
???: Morning, kid.
Wayne: Morning, Uncle Aiden.
Voiced by: Nathan Fillion
Wayne walked into the dining room and saw his uncle on the table drinking his coffee while reading the Daily Bugle.
Aiden: I made breakfast for you. It's in the microwave.
Wayne: Thanks.
He walked over to the microwave and opened it, revealing a plate of bacon and eggs. He took a whiff of the plate.
Wayne: It smells good.
Aiden: (chuckles) I know it does.
Wayne shakes his head while smirking as he took the plate and put it on the dining table. He grabbed a fork and knife and then began to eat.
Wayne: What's the Bugle saying now?
Aiden: Same old junk about Spider-Man being a menace.
Wayne glances at the front page of the newspaper and reads the headline.
SPIDER-MAN: ARSONIST ON THE LOOSE!!!
The picture showed a picture of Spider-Man carrying a woman out of a burning building.
Wayne: (rolls his eyes) Figures.
Aiden: You'd think Jameson just enjoys slandering Spider-Man for kicks. If anyone needs slandering, it's Wilson Fisk. I mean, he's promising to protect the city for years, and yet nothing's happening. And all those trafficking rings that's been discovered? He's gotta be connected to them somehow.
Wayne: I don't think taking a shot at Fisk in the Bulletin is a good idea.
Aiden: I'd like to see him try. A New York Bulletin reporter getting assaulted just as an article slandering Fisk gets published? Wouldn't be a good look for him.
Wayne: Maybe...But what if he does exactly that? He could just make it look like a mugging gone wrong.
Aiden: Probably, but it'd still be suspicious.
Wayne: (sighs) Uncle Aiden, I get what you're trying to do, but...You know how risky it is. I've already lost Mom and Dad, I don't wanna lose you too.
Aiden: (sighs) I know. And I get it, I do. But I won't back down from a fight. That's not what we Russells do. Anybody shoves us, we step up and shove them back.
Wayne shook his head, knowing that his uncle wouldn't back down. As a reporter, Aiden has discovered several illegal operations all over New York, all overseen by a "Kingpin." Aiden had his suspicions that it was Fisk, but couldn't act on it due to lack of evidence.
Right after Wayne finished his plate, he checked his watch.
Wayne: I gotta go.
He gets up and walks towards the door.
Aiden: Need a ride?
Wayne: No, thanks. I'll walk.
Aiden: Okay. See you on Friday.
Wayne: See you on Friday. Love you, Uncle Aiden.
Aiden: Love you too, Wayne.
Wayne grabs his bags and exits the apartment and walks down the stairs until he exits the building. He put on his headphones and plays his music before walking towards Visions.

As Wayne walked, he bopped his head to the music while quietly singing the lyrics.
Wayne: There's something in the water
There's something in the deep
What happened to the summer?
It's swimming 'round my feet
Wayne went down to a subway tunnel and boarded the train.
Wayne: There's something 'round the corner
It's watching every move
Who says you won't recover?
What path you gonna choose?
He got off the subway and went back up to the street and kept walking.
Wayne: Summer on this side ignores me
And it knows I'm imagining things
I wonder if it's time to explore it
Turn these thoughts into matter with me
Summer on this side ignores me
And it knows I'm imagining things
I wonder if it's time to explore it
Turn these thoughts into magic with me
Due to his lack of attention, he ended up bumping into someone.
Wayne: (takes off his headphones) I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention.
???: It's alright. Don't worry about it.
Wayne took a good look at who he just bumped into and saw that it was an Asian girl about his age with short black hair and brown eyes.
Wayne froze when he saw her.
Girl: You okay?
Wayne: Hm? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I-I'm fine. Are you okay?
Girl: Yeah, I'm good.
Wayne looked down and saw that the girl was wearing a Visions Academy uniform.
Wayne: You going to Visions?
Girl: (looks down at her uniform) Uh, yeah. First day, actually. I take it you go there too?
Wayne: Yeah. Shall we?
Girl: Yeah.
Both Wayne and the girl started walking toward Visions Academy.
Wayne: I'm Wayne, by the way. Wayne Russell.
Cindy: Cindy M...Moon. Cindy Moon.
Wayne: (smiles) Nice to meet you.
Cindy: Nice to meet you, too.
The two chatted as they walked to Visions. Wayne sometimes glanced at her, wondering whether or not he had seen her before.
Once they arrive, the two walked towards the entrance when a siren from the police car parked in front of the campus went off, followed by the officer's voice on the speaker.
Officer: You gotta say "I love you" back.
A Black kid with a large afro turned around to face the officer.
Kid: Dad, are you serious?!
Officer: I wanna hear it.
Kid: You wanna hear me say it?
Officer: "I love you, Dad."
Kid: You're dropping me off at a school.
Officer: "I love you, Dad."
Kid: Look at this place.
Officer: "Dad, I love you."
The kid sighs, finally relenting.
Kid: Dad...I love you.
Officer: That's a copy.
Almost all of the students giggled as the kid quickly turned around and went up the stairs.
Officer: Tie your shoes, please.
The kid entered the campus as Wayne and Cindy both winced due to second-hand embarrassment.
Wayne: I do not wanna be in that guy's shoes right now.
Cindy: I don't think anyone would.
Wayne chuckled as he and Cindy entered the campus.
Wayne: So you got your schedule?
Cindy: Yeah, I got it right here.
She digs into her pocket and takes out her schedule as Wayne did the same.
Cindy: I got History first.
Wayne: Oh, I got Algebra. Looks like got Physics at the same time.
Cindy: (smiles) Can't wait. See you around, Wayne.
Wayne: You too, Cindy.
The two went their separate ways.
Wayne went to his locker and placed his stuff there. He then took out his Algebra material and closed his locker before going to class.
Once he arrived, he found an empty seat next to the kid whose police officer dad forced him to say "I love you" at the entrance, so he sat down next to him.
Wayne: Hey, man.
Kid: Hey.
The kid seemed like how one would expect from someone who just felt embarrassed by a parent.
Wayne: I'm sure your dad has good intentions.
Kid: Uh-huh. Sure.
Wayne: Okay...I'm Wayne Russell.
He held out his hand and the kid looked at it, then at Wayne, before finally shaking it.
Miles: Miles Morales.
Wayne: Pleasure.
Miles simply nods as the bell rang, and the class began

After a while, it was time for Physics. Wayne entered the classroom and saw Cindy sitting on a desk, so he sat next to her.
Wayne: Hey, Cindy.
Cindy looked up and smiled a bit when she saw Wayne.
Cindy: Hey.
Wayne: So, how was your first day so far?
Cindy: It's alright.
Wayne: Glad to hear that.
Soon, the class began. The teacher turned off the lights and turned on the projector to play a video of Dr. Olivia Octavius talking about the multiverse. A few minutes into the video, the door was opened, and Miles entered. He tried to sneak his way into an empty seat, but the teacher saw him immediately and paused the video.
Teacher: Mr. Morales. Movin' in the dark. You're late again.
Miles: Einstein said time was relative, right? Maybe I'm not late. Maybe you guys are early.
This got no reaction from the class except for a blonde girl with blue eyes and a piercing on her right eyebrow, who laughed after a few seconds of silence.
Blonde: Sorry. It was just so quiet.
Teacher: (to Miles) Would you like to keep standing there, or do you wanna sit down?
The teacher played the video as Miles sat down next to the blonde girl.
Blonde: (to Miles) I liked your joke.
Miles: Really?
Blonde: I mean, it wasn't funny. That's why I laughed. But it was smart, so I liked it.
Miles: I don't, uh...I don't think I've seen you before.
The teacher shushed, prompting Miles and the girl to stop talking. They did glance at each other.

After a quiz, the class ended. Everyone left, but the teacher asked Miles to stay behind for a bit.
Wayne went to his dorm (in which he lives by himself) and started doing his homework for the day.
After a few hours, he completed all his homework and started working on a personal project of his: a specialized drone.
After a few minutes, he noticed that he was missing a few components. He sighs, before remembering that there is a store that has what he needs...but he'd have to sneak out of campus to get them.
Wayne: (sighs) Ah, what the hell?
He changed into some casual clothing before sneaking out of the campus, somehow unnoticed. He then began walking towards the subway station.
Once he arrived, he sat down on a bench while waiting for a train to arrive. Unbeknownst to him, a spider crawled out of the tunnel and onto the platform. The spider had multiple versions of itself appearing and then disappearing as it crawled through an empty coffee cup that was on the floor.
Wayne took out his phone and scrolled through Reeditt to pass the time. Then he saw three spiders on his right hand.
The three spiders bit him just before Wayne flicked them off his hand and onto the tracks. Wayne stood up and walked to the tracks to see the spiders, only to find one of them there, on its back, not moving.
That's when Wayne just noticed something. Wayne saw three spiders bite his hand but only felt one bite...How?
Before he could question it any further, the train arrived at the station. It stopped and opened its doors, allowing Wayne to get on.
The train's doors closed as it moved away from the station. The dead spider on the tracks glitched as a word and a number were seen written on its spinneret.
