º chapter four º
The pair of them gazed into the open sky, never having felt so... different. What they were unaware of was that both of them had a feeling, a mutual feeling. A feeling that couldn't be described, but something that they both needed to share, but couldn't. They didn't want the moment to end, but it was getting late. Sunset stomach growled, causing both girls to laugh.
"I know it's kinda late, but do you wanna go get something to eat?" Rainbow suggested, rising from her comfortable position on the grass.
"I mean, sure! But won't your parents be worried if you're home late?" Sunset questioned, whilst being helped off the floor by her friend.
"Eh.... maybe? They'll call me if they need to," Rainbow shrugged and checked her watch. It wasn't late late, so shops would still be open. She helped a laughing Sunset Shimmer off the ground and pondered on where they should head off to. They released each others hands from their grip and started walking in the direction of the town.
Sunset panicked as they neared the shops, "Fuck... I haven't brought money..."
"Seriously? I'll pay, it's no big deal," Rainbow laughed. Sunset tried to protest but was interrupted several times.
As the girls approached the town they caught a glimpse of a food cart just outside the town. Since it was easier, they decided to head there. The smell of hot dogs was also luring them in.
The lady behind the stand greeted the pair warmly, "Evening girls! What can I get you?"
Rainbow looked at Sunset first, and nodded towards the little menu stand on the side. Sunset placed her order before Dash, and the two waited patiently.
"So, how's the day been for you guys so far?" the smiling woman asked.
"Great thanks! It's a nice evening to be out in the open air. How was your day?" Sunset replied, also smiling. Rainbow Dash knew for a fact that Sunset didn't personally know the lady behind the counter, and Dash admired how Sunset spoke to her as if they had been friends for years.
"Thanks!" Dash and Sunset answered in unison when they were given their food.
"My pleasure! Have a nice night!" the lady waved as the girls walked off together.
They ate as they walked, and not a word left their mouth as they devoured their delicious meal. They neared Sunset's house, since it was a shorter walk from the park compared to Rainbow's home. When they arrived, they bid their farewells.
"Thanks for walking me back, and buying me food... I will pay you back when I have the money tomorrow," Sunset chuckled.
"Don't worry about it. Oh and thanks again for coming out with me tonight. I needed it... I've had fun this evening!" Rainbow smiled brightly.
"Same here."
They stood their for a while, gazing into each other's eyes, without even realising it. Both wanted to say something more, but they were held back. Rainbow Dash finally broke the peaceful silence, waved and started heading off.
"See ya tomorrow Sunset!"
"Text me when you get home so I know you're safe!" Sunset smiled, crossing her arms. Rainbow chuckled at the protectiveness of her friend, and yet she knew all too well that Sunset was being serious.
Sunset entered her house; immediately changing and getting into the shower. She recalled the evenings events. Each time she thought about it made her stomach flutter. She got out and changed into some comfy pyjamas, and lolled on her bed. She didn't open the message on her phone, but smiled when she read the preview.
Dash: I'm home... XD Hope we can do something like tonight again sometime soon! :)
Sunset settled for the evening. There wasn't really much left for her to do that night except sleep. Plus, she had school tomorrow, because somehow, today was only Wednesday. She soon drifted off.

Thursday morning arrived. A normal school day was what was expected from the girls, which was probably what they were going to get. The students were expected to arrive earlier on a Thursday morning, since it was the day they usually had assemblies. Of course, the six girls (now seven, including their new member Rainbow Dash) had agreed to meet as per usual beforehand. It wasn't long before they all arrived at their usual meet up spot.
When Sunset arrived, she found Applejack causally leaning against the school statue, talking with Rarity; Fluttershy who was fiddling around in her backpack; Twilight head in a book; and Pinkie and Dash also talking. Yep. Nothing too exciting. She joined her friends.
"Hey Sunset! How've you been?" Twilight asked, not looking up.
Sunset chuckled, "You ask as if we haven't spoken in days... But I'm fine thank—" she cut herself off with a long yawn.
"What caught you up so late last night... or early this morning? Why are'ya so tuckered?" Applejack shook her head.
Rainbow Dash and Sunset exchanged glances, both of them beginning to giggle.
"Did ah miss the joke?" Applejack cocked one eyebrow and smiled, clearly confused as to what could have possibly caused such laughter between the two girls. She shook her head.
Rarity observed the conversation, before butting in, "Girls, we better head off. Assembly's supposed to be in only two minutes from now!" With that, they gathered their belongings and causally joined the crowds of students heading towards the main hall. Rainbow Dash however was a little slow to gathering up her things, and so by the time she was ready, everyone had left. There were swarms of students, so she decided it was safe to follow them. Soon enough however she found herself being pushed and shoved around the crowds. Ok.... not the best idea to try and navigate this place alone.
She then felt a tug at her bag.
"Literally the worst thing to do right now is get lost," a low, reassuring voice said from behind.
Rainbow smiled gratefully as she turned around to see Sunset, who was pulling her through the crowds. The pair were soon situated in the main hall. Since there was no room next to the rest of their friends, they took their seats in the nearest empty spot. Once everyone had finally settled, the principle and vice took their places on the stage. Principle Celestia stood forward.
"Good morning students. We don't have much to address today... only a few short notices," the woman spoke. She eyed the filled hall, and continued, "As some of you may know, tomorrow we are hosting our first try-out day."
Sunset reached to whisper to Rainbow Dash, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. You gonna try out?"
The athlete cocked her eyebrow. "Anything to do with sports and I'm in." The girls laughed.
The school's vice principle, Luna, took over the speaking. "Recently their have been quite a large number of new students joining our wonderful school, so we thought it would be a nice opportunity for them to have to choice of joining any club they feel suits them."
Celestia then re-claimed the mic, "Of course, the tryouts are open for everyone, so I hope to hear that many of you have tried out. Details will be on the letter given to you all afterwards."
A mixture of smiles and groans were distributed around the room. Luna cleared her throat. "Secondly, I am sure many of the sophomore students here will be excited to know that a the class trip selected is a field trip to Camp Everfree."
This time, there were more smiles. Celestia continued, "Obviously, we need everyone's help in order to fund this trip, so I want you to do all you can to raise some money. Once we have that money, details of the trip will be spoken about!"
"This is gonna be so cool!" Sunset commented. A hubbub of chatter filled the room, and students began to leave as they were dismissed to their period one lesson.
Sunset left Dash in Pinkie's capable hands as she and Twilight went over to their lockers. Sunset then began rummaging, pretty seriously through her locker, much to Twilight's amusement. She laughed as she watched the panicked girl rummage about her locker.
"Where did I put the fucking money!?" Sunset put her hand on her forehead. She slammed her locker.
"Woah woah woah.... What money?" Twilight put her hand on her friends shoulder. The two began walking to their biology lesson together.
"I promised Rainbow I'd pay her back... She bought me dinner last night 'cause I was broke..." Sunset groaned, "And I've either lost or forgotten the money..."
"Wait so, did you two go out last night then?" Twilight smirked, noticed by Sunset. Twilight had begun to pick up Sunset's feelings for Rainbow Dash. Every time Sunset would speak of her, her tone would completely change, and she would act completely unnatural.
"Yeah... It was so random, like we just both happened to be at the park at the same time.... and then I got hungry so we decided to eat something, but I had no money... and yeah..." Sunset half-lied. Twilight grinned as the two walked into their classroom. Sunset took her usual seat at the back corner. She put her head against the wall, and let her mind wonder. Yep... she was crazy in love with Rainbow Dash. She just couldn't keep her mind off of her. Sunset smiled to herself. Maybe one day they would actually be together. But then, they hadn't known eachother for long. Plus, Dash wasn't comfortable enough with Sunset to tell her what was bothering her yesterday, so it probably wouldn't workout. And what about Rainbow's parents? Sunset hadn't met them yet, but would they be ok with it?
Sunset rubbed her temples. She was overthinking it. She sighed, took out her pen, and jotted down the notes written on the board at the front of the room.

"Dismissed," the teacher called in her monotone voice as the lesson concluded. Sunset and Twilight gathered their things and headed to the lockers, chatting as they walked.
"Well that was exciting wasn't it?" Sunset rolled her eyes.
Twilight softly nudged her friends arm, "Oh don't be like that... Also, we have double biology tomorrow, so..."
"No... well I don't!" Sunset grinned. Twilight raised an eyebrow, causing Sunset to laugh. She continued, "It's because of the tryouts, remember?"
"But, I thought it was only for the new students..." Twilight questioned. Sunset pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from her jacket pocket. She read from the leaflet, "All students are welcome to come, so I hope to see many of you at the all day tryouts tomorrow. Please, take this opportunity to be involved." Sunset smiled, "See, you should do it too!"
"Nah..."
"Heh, your loss." Sunset shrugged.
Twilight grinned, but what Sunset wasn't aware of, was that Twi was actually grinning at Rainbow Dash who was slowly sneaking up on Sunset from behind.
Rainbow then suddenly jumped forward and jolted Sunset's shoulders, causing a yelp to slip out of her mouth. Sunset quickly covered her mouth, and both Rainbow and Twilight doubled over with laughter.
"Hehe... sorry Sunset..." Dash said, taking breaths between her helpless laughter.
Sunset chuckled along, then turned to face her friend, who was proud to have such excellent sneaking skills. "Dash... I promise I'll bring the money tomorrow..."
"Money for what?" Rainbow stopped and looked at Sunset, puzzled.
"Uh... the food. From last night? Remember?"
"Ohh...right. No no, you don't have to pay me back," Rainbow said, whilst adjusting her gym bag strap. "I'm definitely doing tryouts tomorrow. At my old school I was kinda the boss at all sports, so...."
"Yeah... Way to be modest about it...." a southern voice joined the conversation. AJ joined the three girls.
"We didn't ask you," Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, but she wasn't joking. Sunset immediately picked up on the tension between these two. She hadn't noticed it that obviously at first, because it was subtle, but Applejack and a Rainbow a Dash seemed to quite literally hate eachother.
"Uh... I'll see you guys at lunch?" Twilight interrupted the trio's conversation.
Rainbow Dash, Sunset and AJ smiled and waved in response.
"Wait what do we have now?" Rainbow questioned, not bothering to check her timetable, and looking at Sunset for an answer.
Sunset laughed, "We have gym, and you just got your gym kit out of your locker. How did you forget?!"
"Oh yeah!" Dash sniggered. They walked to the gym together, leaving AJ to attend her own classes.
In the midst of their walking, Rainbow 'accidentally' pushed Sunset off the path.
"What was that for?" Sunset sniggered.
"Did I push you? Sorry!" Rainbow said smugly. Sunset crossed her shoulders grinning.
They walked a little further, until Sunset did the same and pushed Dash to the side. The game continued, until they both ended up leaning against each other, struggling to push the other one over. It ended with laughter.
"What was that about then?" Sunset asked, giggling as they walked into the changing rooms.
"What are you on about? Nothing happened, we were just walking!" Rainbow laughed.
The girls joined their class, set down their stuff and swiftly changed into their gym clothes. Sunset had always felt self-conscious about changing openly in front of a room of girls, so she would always try to be as quick as possible. Once everyone was ready, the lesson began.
