CHAPTER 3

EHRAZ:

"Ehraz," my mom's voice echoed through the door, accompanied by a series of rapid knocks, jolting me out of my sleep.

"Yes, Mom," I replied, groggily.

"Come down for breakfast after freshening up."

"Okay."

As her footsteps faded away, I checked the digital clock on the bedside table. It was 9 in the morning. I realized that my mom had come to wake me up. Yesterday, I was working till 4:00 in the morning and went to bed quite late so I slept in today.

I got up from the bed, stretched my limbs, and walked into the bathroom. The sun rays were peeking through the window, casting a warm glow in the room. I splashed some cold water on my face, the refreshing sensation of water waking me up. While brushing my teeth, I gazed at my reflection in the mirror and couldn't help but think about Arzoi. My parents had talked about marriage between us and her parents, but it had been three days, and we hadn't heard anything from them yet. I know I am being impatient, but you can't help it when it involves the person you love.

After brushing my teeth, I took a quick shower to refresh my mind. For the past three days, I had intentionally immersed myself in work more than I already was. My family has already labeled me as a workaholic since I took over my father's company, but how can I be blamed? I was afraid of Arzoi's rejection, so to stop myself from overthinking, I immersed myself in work. I don't think I will be able to handle her rejection.

After dressing up, I went downstairs to join my family for breakfast. The aroma of pancakes and freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, making my stomach growl. We dug into our breakfast, but my mind was still lost in thoughts, precisely thoughts about Zoi.

I couldn't help but wonder what she was doing or if she was thinking about me. I wish I could tell her how I truly felt. Maybe then, this waiting game wouldn't be as torturous.

-Flashback ( 1 MONTH AGO)-

It had been nearly a month since a captivating brown-eyed woman had stolen my heart. Thoughts of her consumed my mind. Since that significant day, I had tasked my trusted security chief, Roger, with uncovering information about her. However, thus far, he had only managed to find her name: Arzoi Kaur Gill. Such a charming name for a lovely lady. I found it surprising that Roger was taking so long to locate her. It was clear that Zoi had a formidable background. My siblings' joyful shrieks pierced through the air, pulling me back from my thoughts.

"Aww... she is so cute," exclaimed the twins, their eyes fixed on a picture that Mom was showing them. As I sat in the living area, engrossed in official work with Sahej, I couldn't help but be curious about what had them so excited.

Before I could even voice my question, Sahej beat me to it. "Aunt, what are you guys talking about?" he inquired.

"Sahej, come here. Look, she is my friend's daughter," Mom responded. Sahej eagerly joined the huddle, and as soon as he laid eyes on the photo, his expression was priceless. His eyes widened as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.

I also rose from my seat to get a better look when I overheard my mother's words, "I think she and Ehraz will make a perfect couple. Ehraz, you are already 28 and still single. You are not going to get any younger. Get married to her already." Her words caught me off guard, and I nearly choked on my saliva.

"No, I am not going to marry her," I firmly declared my decision and settled back in my seat, no longer interested in the photo.

"But you need to get married. You can't spend your entire life alone. You need a partner with whom you can share your joy and sorrow. At least look at her picture once," she pleaded. I knew she was right, but I had already given my heart to Zoi.

"Mom, I love someone."

The room fell into stunned silence as my unexpected confession hung in the air. Even the usually lively twins were speechless, their mouths agape. It seemed that nobody had anticipated me falling in love, especially considering my reputation for being solely focused on work. As the shock gradually lifted, my family's surprise turned into joyful exclamations.

"Wow! You're finally not gonna die single. Although it's not Arzoi, I'mhappy for you," my Mom exclaimed.

The mention of Arzoi struck a chord. It was a peculiar coincidence, considering that the girl I had fallen for bore the same name. Brushing it off, I requested my mother to refrain from discussing it further and assured her that she would meet my love when the time was right. She agreed without hesitation. However, before I could return to my work, Sahej, who had recovered from his initial shock, suddenly shouted at me.

"You moron, you are gonna regret it for the rest of your life if you don't take alook at this photo." With that, he rushed towards me and literally shoved the picture into my face. This irked me to the core but I still grabbed the photo and took a look at it. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. There were two endless pools of chocolate staring back at me.

"Zoi, how... what..I mean."

"What happened, my child?"

"Mom, she is the girl I love."

-END OF FLASHBACK-

Now, I could only wait for her reply.

"Ehraz, guess what," exclaimed Mom.

"What?"

"She said yes."

"WHAT!!" I was beyond myself with joy.

"Also Yuvraj asked if you guys could meet up for brunch maybe. Why don't you have a chat with him."

"Ok."
