Bunnyburrows: Seeds of Doubt
(Judy POV)
I drove my truck back into Bunnyburrows. My encounter with the fox replaying over and over in my head. He didn't threaten me. He didn't hurt. He could've killed me but didn't. I have to tell somebody. I thought, but who? I can't tell my siblings. They'll snitch on me. I can't tell Jack he wouldn't believe me. I should tell Gazelle! She's my best friend! She would believe me and she won't tell anyone else. Well except Zoey, but I shook the thought out of my head, quickly parking the truck at a gas station, but no sooner did I get out of my truck did I hear Jack shout my name.
"Judy!" he shouted from infront of my truck. "Where the hell were you?!" he demanded angrily.
"I went out for a drive." I said. It was technically the truth, well at least that's how it started.
"Without telling anyone?" Jack exclaimed.
"I told Gazelle." I responded furrowing my eyebrows. "Did you even ask anyone where I was?"
Jack hesitated before answering, and when he did he changed the subject.
"Whatever" Jack said turning away from me. "we need you in the interigation building. We have three new prisoners who might have some information. I already tried getting the information, but they're a stubborn bunch."
Before I answered he walked away. Nice to know you care, I thought shaking my head. Ever since the war started his mood's been...more...savage.
"(Defeated sigh) no use in worrying about it now." I said aloud as I started walking towards the interrogation building. Which was just the basement of one of the barns made into a containment cell, and a standard interrogation room.
"So who am I interigating?" I asked Jack when he showed up.
"You're doing all three." he responded coldly.
I ignored his tone and looked over at the three predators in the containment cell. I saw two identical golden wolves and a red fox who had his back to me. They alwore the same cloak and were collared. The wolves were arguing about something and the fox was ignoring them, studying the wall behind them.
"I'll start with one of the wolves." I said nodding toward the prisoners. Jack called out to one of the guards to get one of the wolves.
I watched as the bison neared the cage he pulled out a control with a button. The collars control no doubt. All three predators looked over at the bison before they suddenly flinched clutching their collars and grunting in pain. After a few seconds the guard released the button and opened the cage. Roughly grabbing the closest wolf, who put up no resistance, and placed him in the interigation room. Securing him tightly to the chair. I walked into the room after the bison gave me the all clear. I sat directly inform of the wolf, sizing him up so I had a better idea on what I had to do. He wore, or what was left of, a black and red cloak. His fur was shaggy and two different shades of blonde. He had a swollen eye and a few cuts that I could see, no doubt from Jack. His eyes were a light blue similar to Jacks, but these had a light of mischief and good humor.
"You gonna stare at me all day?" the wolf said after I finished studying him. "I know my fur is good looking and all but..."
The wolf and I promptly studied each other for a few more seconds before one of us spoke again.
"What is your name?" I asked, keeping my voice soft and gentle. The wolf looked at me with a surprised look.
"Damn," he said. "Thought you'd threaten me before you started questioning. Like that Jackass from earlier."
"I'm not like him." I replied calmly and then restated my question.
"I'm Ülf." he replied eying me suspiciously. "My brother is Wülf."
"I'm Judy" I replied kindly. "Where did you come from?"
"I came from the Wolfsden." he replied. "But I was sent to Foxden with the others for a mission."
"And what exactly was your mission?" i asked with an innocent smile. He's responded better with kindness so far.
"Well the mission was to sneak into knew of the science labs," he explained "and retrieve some vital information from the computer system.
"What type of information?" I asked, this time I was genuinely curious.
"Anything that the system had." he responded with a small shrug.
"Like what?" I questioned further.
"Don't know" Ülf said shrugging again. "Lynk was the one who downloaded the info."
"Is he the fox?" I asked, he had to be Lynk. He already said that the other wolf was Wülf.
"No, your troops killed him first." Ülf said his face became solemn.
"Sorry." why wasn't I told?!
"Don't even bother questioning my brother." Ülf said, he obviously knew I was done questioning. "He knows as much as I do and that's very little. You want information ask Robin. He'll know more."
"Thank you for your cooperation James." I said standing up and leaving the interigation. Once I left the room the bison came back and took Ülf back to cell with less force. "Bring in the fox please." I said and then waited for Robin to be in interigation room before I entered again.
"Hi I'm Judy Hopps." I said once I sat down. The fox, Robin, looked at me with an arched eyebrow.
"Robin Wilde" he replied shortly after.
"Can you tell me what information you and your troops took?" I asked kindly.
"I can." he replied but said nothing afterwards. Then I realized how i asked the question.
"May you tell me what info you took?" I asked again as kindly and as sweetly as I could.
Robin didn't say anything for a few seconds. He seemed to be debating whether to tell me or not. "I'll tell if you answer one thing. Deal?"
I thought it over. Getting a large sum of information and only answering one question. Sounds like a fair trade. So I nodded saying 'deal'. Robin took in a breathe and started talking.
"We were sent by Elder Lionheart to retrieve any piece of information we could find." He started. "The info we retrieved was about new gear, vehicles, bases, and the like. And as Cursoribui we are told only what we need to know." when he finished looked me dead in the and I was shocked by what I saw. His eyes were an emerald-green similar to the ones of the fox I ran into outside of Apex only these were a dark shade. They looked so similar now that I think about it. The only real differences that I could see were that Robin's fur was a darker shade of red and that his fur looked scruffier than the other fox's. Other than that they looked the same.
"My son Nicolas." Robin started talking again, bringing me back to reality. "He escaped the ambush, but after I got trapped I didn't know if he made it out of Apex or not. Please tell me? Did my son escape or was he...?"
I looked at Robin some more before I talked. His eyes were filled with fatherly worry and he couldn't bring himself to finish his question. He must be really worried for Nick.
"Your son made it out of Apex." I replied, I made a deal to answer his question if he told me the information. He held up his end of the deal and so will I. "I saw him running east."
The foxes shoulders dropped and it looked like a huge weight was lifted off of his shoulders.
"Thank god." he muttered looking up at the sky.
After that I left the interigation room and met Jack outside. He was fuming when I reach him. His ears were red and his left paw was thumping extremely fast on the ground.
"What the hell was that?!" he practically shouted at me once I reached him causing me to jump back a foot or two.
"What?" I asked although I already had an idea om what he was gonna say.
"You said you saw that beast's child going east!" he said angrily. "How?!"
"I told you I went for a drive." I replied making it sound pretty ovbious.
"To Apex?!" he questioned. I winced as I realized my mistake. "I forbid you from leaving Bunnyburrows ever again!"
Oh hell no! He did not just say that!
"You forbid? You forbid me form leaving?" I said now in was angry. "What right do you have to forbid me?"
"I am a soldier of the Beute army." he said pointing to the badge on his chest. "I can order you all I want! And I will not have my future wife spend her time among those filthy beast."
I took a breath to defend myself but someone big beat me to it.
"Savage!!" someone shouted their voice darkened by their anger. Jack and I quickly turned to see a cape buffalo in a Chief uniform stomping towards us. I looked over at Jack and saw a look of pure terror. He hurriedly saluted to the buffalo.
"die Achtung, Chief Bogo!" Jack said holding his salute.
"What did you say Savage?!" Chief Bogo asked looking down at Jack with a stare that would have killed Jack a million times over.
"Scuse me, Chief?" Jack asked innocently. Although it obviously didn't fool Chief Bogo who, if possible, became angrier.
"Do you think I'm a fool, Savage?!" Chief Bogo said although his voice lowered more into a whispernit still caused Jack to flinch.
"N-no Chief of course not!" Jack said hurriedly.
Chief Bogo turned his attention to me. His facial features softening as they did.
"I'm sorry for Savage's behavior miss." Chief Bogo apologized. "I'll take care of him right now miss."
"Actually Chief Bogo." I said gesturing for him to come down to my height. "I was wondering could I join the Beute army?"
"Of course miss anyone can join." Chief Bogo said kindly. I looked over at Jack and gave him smile although it was not a happy smile.
"Hey Jack looks like you'll have some competition." I said and walked away heading straight for the regristation booth in the burrows. But I stopped at the barns doors and looked back at Jack. "Oh and Jack, I'd rather kiss a cactus before I ever even considered going on a date, much less marry, you. So go find someone else to bother." and with that finally off my chest I left.
