Chapter Twenty-One: Trapped
Jack: Dad? Why are you avoiding me?
Nil: I don't know what you're talking about.
Jack: Yes you do! You've been avoiding me ever since my birthday! What's going on?
Nil: Look, rabbit, I have no time for your stupid shenanigans. You're useless enough already, don't waste my time anymore.
Jack: What? But you said that no matter what you'll always be there for me. Why are you suddenly acting like this?
Nil: Look, kid, you're just not good enough anymore. Now stop wasting my time, take the hint, and get back to work.
Jack: What do you mean?! Ugh! You're all the same! Why did you adopt me and ruin my life!? I thought you were different but even you've started acting like them! If you really think I'm such a burden to you guys, then why'd you adopt me in the first place!?
Nil: *continues typing*
Jack: HEY!? ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME!? DAD?! DAD! UGH! IT'S NO USE TALKING TO ANY OF YOU! YOU'RE ALL THE SAME! YOU JUST WANT ME TO DIE!
The bunny grabbed his coat, went outside, and ran deep into the forest. Tears were running down his striped cheeks as he looked for that special tree. The Big Oak Tree. The one place where he can express himself fully. He passed by many of the places he spent time with his dad. The mountain they went sledding on, the trees they marked, the snow they ran in. Flashbacks came to the teenaged bunny as he remembered what his dad had said. You're just not good enough. It kept repeating itself, ringing over and over in his head. You're just not good enough. All that time spent with the one mammal he thought actually loved him was fake. Just an illusion. How could he betray him like this? How could he so ruthlessly tear out his heart and shatter it into pieces? How could he just use him like that? His own father. He was a traitor. Just like the rest. The bunny approached the place the Oak Tree was in. Only to find that it was destroyed. The snowstorm yesterday must have knocked it down. There it laid. Still on the ground. The tree that showed strength and wisdom had been knocked over. It was all gone. The jackrabbit sobbed in front of it. Everything was destroyed. The illusion had finally been broken only to reveal the bitter truth that life will smother and destroy any ray of sunshine you get. His father's words came to him one last time. You're just not good enough. The bunny climbed up the nearest large tree. He stood on the edge of the highest branch. A while later, he went. He stepped forward and fell. He landed on the ground with a large THUMP. The red blood staining the white snow and his light grey fur. Are you happy now father? The bunny's eyes closed shut. Only for a while. Life wouldn't even give him the brutal break of death. He wasn't going to fail the test. Not yet.
"Hey? Fuzzball? Savage? Wake up! Jack! Jack wake up!", he heard a soft voice say. The bunny felt weird and like he wasn't able to move or stretch. He opened his eyes to see a vixen staring right at him. Casey. For some reason, her paws were chained to the wall and her feet were tied up. She was against a grey wall and there wasn't much light anywhere. Jack started to wonder where he was and that's when he realized he was chained, too! His sleepiness started to wear off and he started realizing the situation they were in. They were kidnapped. Taken by someone. "W-where are we?", he asked. "I don't know. I woke up like this. I think we're kidnapped!", she answered. The jackrabbit and vixen flinched as voices were heard and a door in front of them opened. It creaked slowly, steadily. A figure moved and came into the room as Jack tried to adjust his vision to the sudden light. The figure closed the door behind it and became clearer. It was a small wolf. Its fur was dirt brown as it entered the room. Accompanying it was a white leopard that was taller than him. "There they are.", the wolf said. "The fox and bunny.". The leopard looked at Jack and Casey and sighed. "Hey, squirt! You were supposed to bring the todd and the bunny. You brought a vixen and a jackrabbit.", she said. "So what? They're still a fox and a rabbit. Boss said it could be either one as long as we got them.", the wolf said. The leopard rolled her eyes and came towards Jack and Casey. "Huh, well since our prisoners are awake, why don't we tell them why they're here. If you're gonna die soon, why not die with a clear conscience? Right, Mark?", she asked as she looked at the wolf. "Oh sure. Whatever you say, Winter. A little disagreement and you lose it.", Mark said. Winter hissed at him to tell him to shut up and looked back at the two. "Now, back to you two. We have nothing against you, really. It's just that you came into the house. Anyone in there gets kidnapped and killed. If you're wondering what we gain from this, just know that we get money. Boss has an amazing plan that you two don't need to know.", Winter snapped at them. Jack stayed quiet and tried to break free from the chains, but Winter heard him. "Aw, what's the matter? The wittle bunny can't bweak fwee?", she asked in a baby voice before laughing. "Face it, rabbit. These chains are impossible to break free from. If you really think you can get loose, then think again, dumb bunny.". Casey growled at the leopard, bearing her pearly white teeth. Jack noticed her eyes starting to go a little yellow. Winter luckily wasn't paying attention to her eyes and thought they were naturally yellow. Casey's growling became louder and louder till it turned into a deep bark. "Hey, fox! Keep your teeth in your mouth before I break them! Besides, if you think we're just gonna let you growl, think again. We have shock collars with us, and we ain't afraid to use them.", she hissed as Mark held up the shiny, black things, showing them that Winter wasn't lying. Casey's growl didn't go a bit down, it just got louder. "You think I'm not used to this!? Like I've never worn this before?! Yeah right! It's not gonna be any use if you put this thing on me you cowardly feline!", she growled. Jack's face turned to horror when he saw the leopard's teeth start to show. He quickly decided to calm this down since he didn't want Casey to get hurt by these mammals. "Wait! If you're gonna kill us soon, why don't you tell us you're boss's plan?", he asked. Luckily, Winter calmed down and looked at him and then at Mark. "What do you think, dweeb?", she asked the wolf. "Sure, why not. It's not like they're gonna live to tell this to anyone.".
Jack kept his face straight and his expression serious, but on the inside, he was celebrating his small victory of being able to delay the murder. He looked at Casey and she just looked at him with an expression that said seriously? and didn't really like the fact that the leopard was now calm. What is she, crazy? Why does she want Winter to get mad? "You see, little bunny,", Winter began to say, "Our boss wants to use you two to lure in the others so that he can kill you. Even if you guys pay to stay in the flat if he can make the others continue to think that this place is haunted, then they'd have to stay in the little motel owned by him, eat at the food store owned by him, and have to buy anything else from him. He'd make more money off of this than by doing things the way they want it to be. But for the braver set of mammals like you who dare to go in, he needs to kill this to further prove that the place is haunted. He's been doing this for years and not once has he been caught!". I knew it! It wasn't really haunted, they were just showing it was. "But anyway, now that you two know, it's time for your special treatment", Mark said as he inched closer to Jack with a shock collar in his paws. Winter put on Casey's. The leopard then toom out a small remote for each of them which controlled the collars. She pressed the button that leads to Jack's. Immediately, a wave of electricity spread throughout his body from his neck. His eyes started forming tears as the rabbit screamed in pain. The shock went on for a few seconds until Winter released the button. He flinched for a few moments before starting to calm down. "Now for you. Your rude behavior is gonna get you some extra shocks, so be ready, fox.", she turned to Casey and pressed her button. The vixen shook from the shocks and just when she was about to catch her breath, another wave of shocks was sent to her. It continued for a few minutes as Casey screamed and cried, but unfortunately, Winter wasn't gonna have any mercy. When she was done, the vixen could barely breathe. Her eyes were closed and her body was shaking and twitching. I-is she okay?! Oh sure, go ahead Jack, ask yourself a stupid question like that. Winter and Mark had finally left and closed the door behind them. The jackrabbit looked over at Casey and noticed she had her eyes closed shut. "Casey? A-are you okay?!", he asked. The vixen opened her blue eyes and looked over at him, slowly catching her breath and said, "Yeah, I'm fine. I've been through worse. But now we need to find a way out of here.". Casey tried to break free from the chains on her wrists. Jack just stared at her with a shocked expression. What does she mean she's been through worse? Did she wear a shock collar before? Why? The bunny tried to free himself of the chains, but he was just too weak. Both of them were. They were trapped in here with the only escape being death unless they can find a way out. "We need another plan. Some way these guys would free us from the chains.", he said. "Yeah, but what do we do? They're not gonna let us go until we're dead.", Casey responded. That caused an idea to form in Jack's head. Death...THAT'S IT! "Actually,", the bunny said, "there may be a way to get us both out. You're gonna have to play along with me in this act. If all goes well, we should at least be freed from here.".
Author: Hey peeps! Oh sweet cheese and crackers, I can NOT stop updating this book! It just got so interesting! ARG I WISH I CAN MAKE THESE CHAPTERS FASTER! And HOLY COW WE REACHED 2065 WORDS! OH WOW THIS TURNED OUT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT! And peeps actually like my chapters, too! What do ya know, my story's not poop! Or rainbow poop! Suddenly I'm reminded of the Nyan Cat XDDD. OH DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG I'VE GOT 78 FOLLOWERS! I'M SO CLOSE TO 100! THANK'S SO MUCH PEEPS! And please answer me this question: Do you guys wanna see more Casey and Jack? I'm finding it easier to write about them than Nick and Judy for some reason. I dunno maybe it's cuz since they're my own characters I can make up their past and anything they learn and their personality while with Nick and Judy, I have to make this work and make them seem like Nick and Judy. So tell me what you think. Do you guys want Casey and Jack to have a few chapters? And do you want Jack to be in every case the trio are in or do you want him to appear for a few cases and have him on the chapters where we see their daily lives? But since my work here is done, I'll let you have peace. Cya peeps! Author Out! *dabs*
