Chapter Ten: An Assistant
The day off was over and it was back to work for the two officers. Nick was ready to go and was going to tell Casey that he was going to work. He saw that she was sitting on the top bed. She didn't look so happy, though. Casey had a habit of sleeping late, but waking up early, so she was already dressed for the day before Nick was even up. She was wearing a royal blue dress with a matching ribbon made from silk tied around her waist. Nick remembered admiring his sister's outfits when they were little. She always made her clothes herself and made him outfits, too. Of course, that stopped when she went to India. Any normal mammal would've gone up to Casey and asked her how she was doing, but Nick knew his sister all too well. He knew that she didn't like to be bothered when she's sad, and just needed some time alone. He would ask her later, when she cooled down, if she was still sad. He knew that she was remembering the past, and that always bothered her. He was just about to exit the room until he heard a voice.
"Going to work?", Casey asked. Nick nodded as he saw his sister form a little smile. "Were you thinking? Of those times?".
"Yes."
"Well, it's old now. It already happened and last time I checked, there's still no time machine. And besides, time shouldn't be altered with."
"I know. It's just, I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I like being here, but I need to do something.". Nick thought for a while. Then it hit him. Chief was looking for some new recruits. Casey may not have gone to the training, but she knew even more than that. He would convince Bogo to let Casey join in on the next case assigned to them as a test. She passes, she gets to be a cop. "Don't worry, Casey. I'll have something planned for you. You'll love it!".
"Ok. Bye Nick! Love ya!". The two siblings separated and went on with their day.
Nick strolled into the ZPD with Judy. They always go to work together since they're neighbors and always come back. They went over to a desk and saw a cheetah waving at them, a smile on his face. "Hi guys! How are my two favorite officers and couple doing?", Clawhauser asked. "Clawhauser! We're not a couple! We're just friends.", the bunny said as she was smiling. "Uh guys, I'll be right back! Gotta tell the Chief something.", Nick said. "Nick, did you forget to give in the paperwork you were supposed to do again?", asked Judy jokingly. "What? Me! Forgetting paperwork? Never! And not this time! I'm gonna ask if we can have Casey in our next case!".
"Alright then, sounds good!".
"Aww, you two are so cute together!", Clawhauser exclaimed. "But whose Casey? IS SHE ANOTHER FOX?"
"Casey is Nick's sister. She moved here from India and she's really nice. She's gonna help me with my issues with Nick. You'll meet her at our next movie night.".
Nick walked in through the door. "Good morning, Chief!", Nick greeted as Bogo jumped by the surprising appearance of the fox. "Wilde! Hasn't anyone taught you how to knock!?", Chief said as he his his phone. Nick noticed the Gazelle app on the phone. "Hasn't anyone taught you that there's more to the world than Gazelle?", Nick asked. Bogo was embarrassed and didn't speak, still having that angry expression. Nick asked him if they have a case today and turns out they do. He told Chief about Casey and asked if she could join. "Why do you want to kill your sister by this mission?". "Trust me Chief. She may have not went to the academy, but she knows all the tricks of being a spy. She's not gonna die in this case!". At least I hope so. Nick somehow convinced Chief to let Casey join them. If she passes this test, she's an official spy. If she doesn't, then there's no second chances.
Nick walked out of the room and joined Judy so they can get their case. He sat next to Judy in the same chair just like usual. They were huge, so it fit both of them. Chief took attendance and assigned everyone their case. He told Judy and Nick to meet them in his office. The two officers opened the door and saw Casey smiling at them. "Casey? How'd you get here?", Nick asked. "I got a text from Judy. She said that I'm gonna be in a case!", the fox replied. She was obviously very pleased and was in a better mood than at the beginning. Chief told the two officers to sit down with Casey and explained to the three mammals their new case. They were supposed find a missing mammal. Emily Howler was a ten year old girl that went missing a few days ago. She wasn't a normal wolf, but she belonged to a werewolf family. The wolves can turn savage whenever they please. Emily went missing during the night. The last location she was in was her house. They found her phone in the mouth of a cave, but there wasn't any other evidence retrieved. The cave was led to a dead end. He sent out the case file to the three of them and excused them from his office.
The three mammals were at Clawhauser's desk. The case file of Emily was also short once again. Leads: None. Witnesses: None. Resources: None. The last known sighting area didn't help that much either. "You guys keep getting the tough cases. I mean, there's absolutely no way you're gonna crack this one. Unless you look at the security cameras.", the cheetah said. Judy, Nick, and Casey stared at him for a while. "What? Is there something on my face?".
Casey clicked through the security cameras. They typed in the location and now found the video with Emily in it. They saw her entering the cave, but she never came out. At least they knew she didn't get out. "Maybe we should investigate the area.", Judy suggested. The two foxes agreed and went to the cave to see if there was any other evidence.
