Zombie Girl V. Where the bodies are (Part 2)
Zombie Girl V. Where the bodies are (Part 2)
You started to sway and stagger on unstable feet but your hunger burned fiercely and would not be put out like a flame so easily. What was this alien substance that was currently pumping through your cold veins? Some type of drug that was for sure. Suddenly your undead body started to grow numb and refused to listen to your brain.
Your body slumped to the ground like a lifeless doll, broken and limp.
Still frozen in shock and terror, Zack did nothing but stare wide eyes at your motionless form. Angeal remained silent trying to regulate his breathing. The brunette gritted his teeth in frustration. Why? Why did it have to be you? Why couldn’t have you gotten out into the safe side of the city like the rest?
Once Angeal had snapped out of his inner turmoil, he carefully stepped over to you and rolled you over with much care. His eyes widened like saucers upon noticing something. Your once missing hand had regenerated in an alarming pace. He was certain he had cut it clean off when you had Zack in your clutches. He glanced to where you had first emerged from the ground and almost gagged. Your hand still lay on the dead grass, gory and muddy. He just hoped it wouldn’t suddenly jump to life and scuttle around like it did in the movies. He shivered at the thought.
Zack gulped, finally getting a hold of himself.
“S-so what do we do now?” Zack cursed himself for allowing himself to stutter, however he still couldn’t get over the fact that you weren’t human anymore. You were one of them.
“Reno said to bring them back one at a time.” Zack grimaced. Just the thought of throwing you into the truck along with other undead like an animal made him sick to his stomach. He didn’t care if you were undead, he didn’t feel it was right to take you as one of the ten undead experiments. “I know what you’re thinking Zack but she’s no longer (Name),” Angeal paused, wincing as he spoke the harsh reality. “If you think about it, she’s helping humanity find a cure.”
Zack clenched his fists, a pit of fury boiling up inside him. What had you done to deserve this? Nothing! That’s what! Not only was the ravenette angry at the infection, but at himself also. He hadn’t been there to protect you, and he resented himself for that.
“Whatever the situation with (Name) is, we still need to bring her back to the truck.” Angeal said picking your limp body up bridal style. Zack followed obediently not liking the fact that you were going to be experimented on one bit. In fact he didn’t much care that you were a mindless flesh eating zombie, you were still you…kind of.
The walk back to the truck was dark and tense. Zack never took his keen eyes off of his surrounding for a second. However something bothersome continued to eat away at Zack. The infected zone was much too silent for his liking and he knew that Angeal felt the same way. He just hoped it wouldn’t be like that saying ‘calm before the storm’.

Genesis and Noel had already caught one straggler in their path and had taken the flesh eating monster back to the truck and were already on their way for a second zombie, much to their displeasure. Genesis seemed to care less about what was going on around them and was much more interested in his book, which concerned Noel to an extent.
Noel knew how much of an experienced fighter Genesis was but it still didn’t put his mind at ease that he was the only one keeping watch as they stalked through the undead part of the city. It was already bad enough as it was being dark and quiet. There wasn’t a zombie in sight which only caused Noel to worry even more. He had been expecting the roads to be flooded with undead, but since the few hours that they had been there, there wasn’t an undead in sight! And what was even more unnerving was that there weren’t even any decaying corpses lying on the ground.
The two were slowly starting to reach the edge of the city where local residents used to live and where the tall buildings and skyscrapers stood crumbling in the background. The silence was much thicker in this area and even Genesis started to show signs of uncomfort.
Noel froze in mid step once seeing what sat at the end of the small street. The brunette gulped as a chill shot up his spine. Genesis too, stopped and surveyed the end of the street, as well as the trails of old, dried blood and gore that led to the end.
“T-this looks as if someone has been dragging bodies…but, the undead don’t do that.” Noel stuttered trying to find his words while investigating the trails of gore. “They simply,” he gagged at the thought, “devour people there and then. They don’t drag them anywhere hold them up and save them for later.”
Genesis kept silent though processed what Noel was saying. His mako blue eyes flickered between the trails of dried gore and the end of the street, where the sinister figure of a house lay in wait, as if watching its prey. The two actually felt as if the house had a mind of its own and watched them like a hawk eyeing its next meal. However to uncover the reason of why no corpses littered the streets and hardly any undead wandered the city they would have to follow the trail to the house, for they had a definite feeling that the house held at least one of those secrets…

Finally reaching the truck where Reno and Rude waited patiently Zack and Angeal opened the steel doors and carefully laid you down into the undead compartment of the truck next to the other captured infected, much to Zack’s displeasure. There was enough space for you to walk around if you were to wake up but that still didn’t put Zack’s thoughts at ease.
Lightning and Hope had already caught three infected and sat waiting with the two turks, however Lightning accidentally let go of a gasp as she caught sight of your limp form.
“Something wrong?” Angeal asked in a gruff tone. Lightning quickly regained her posture and sent the gorilla like man a soft glare.
“It’s nothing, I-I thought…” Lightning paused squeezing her eyes shut, as if keeping her emotions in check. Lightning was hard to read most of the time, and the SOLDIERs rarely saw the nice side of her. “I thought I knew her from somewhere, is all.” She muttered. Zack had a tiny suspicion that that had been a lie and Lightning did in fact know you for she kept stealing quick glances your way until Angeal locked the steel doors, but Angeal just shrugged it off.
Zack decided to confront Lightning about it later after taking one last glance your way as Angeal closed the doors of the truck.
“Ok, we have five undead in total but the sun is going to rise soon and we need to pack up, so when Genesis and Noel get back we’ll be leaving.” Reno informed never taking his eyes of the screens in front of him.
Rude had placed movement sensors around the area and still no sign of movement from infected. What was going on? The same question was buzzing around everyone’s head. They didn’t need to be told that something was going on here, and that they needed to stay alert.
So the team sat and waited, eyes never leaving their surroundings and words rarely exchanged while they waited for the last two members of the unit to show up, hopefully with an infected.
The team was completely unaware of the millions of eyes that watched them hungrily and painstakingly slowly crept towards them from the shadows.
