Chapter 44

The sun was so bright. Brighter than a million fireflies in the dead of night. There was no clouds in sight, just small birds flying gracefully in the sky. The air smelled sweet like honey and it felt comfortable and safe. Flowers surrounded the grass with their beautiful, warm colors as they swayed in the morning wind. Everywhere that Tohru turned to gaze at was a breathtaking view of true nature.

She never realized how beautiful, how perfect everything can be. This was definitely not reality. It felt like a dream. A dream that she never wanted to wake up from. The light of the sun grew brighter and Tohru bathed in the warm heat that it radiated. She stretched out her arms and smiled happily. The pain in her body was no longer there and she felt more alive than ever.

Over the horizon, Tohru could see a small figure waving towards her. She squinted to get a better look at the person when she realized who it was. The tall lady came closer, her hand still waving and her short reddish brown hair flowed in the wind.

It was her mother.

Tohru gasped and ran towards her, "Mom! Mom!" The dress that she was wearing was the same yellow lace she wore when she shared a dream with Kyo. Tohru ran as fast as her feet could carry her until she felt herself collapse in her mother's arms.

She broke into tears of joy as she embraced her and held on tightly, scared that if she would let go soon she would disappear.

"I miss you so much!" Tohru whispered, "I'm doing well in school just as you asked! I'm learning so many new things! Mom, I've been through so much but I was able to overcome them with my friends!"

Her mother laughed softly while patting her head, "I knew you would. You're so strong and so kind, Tohru. And I have missed you very much."

"I wanna stay with you here!" Tohru looked up into her mother's brown eyes, "Look how beautiful everything is! It feels like a dream. This is the most wonderful place I've ever seen. I don't feel no pain or sadness I just feel so happy!"

Kyoko smiled lovingly at her daughter, "I know, this place is a perfect, safe haven and I'm able to watch over you, to keep you safe and to protect you." Her eyes suddenly saddened, "But it's not the time for you to join me, Tohru. Someday you will, when fate has called you. For now, you still have a purpose to fulfill in life. Your friends are worried about you and they need you more right now."

Tohru stared intently at her mother and quickly understood what she was telling her. It was not her time yet to join her mom. But one day she will. She will be united again with her parents.

Tohru nodded happily and gave her mother one last hug, "I love you and I miss you."

"I love you too." Was all she heard until her mother's voice faded into the bright light of the sun. Her gaze was now dark and she was pulled inside a blanket of darkness.

----------------------------

Her dream now gone, Tohru opened her eyes slowly and she saw a blur of bright colors. She thought she was back in her wonderful dream but the sound of monitors beeping said otherwise. Tohru's vision cleared and she found herself staring at the tiled ceiling. She felt numb and weak but she was able to move her head slightly to the side.

On her right were the beeping monitors and a bunch of gray and black cords that were attacthed to the machine, well, they seemed gray and black to Tohru. Some of the cords were connected to her left arm and she felt a tube go up into her nose to help her breathe.

Speaking of breathing, she heard a soft breathe coming from her right side. She turned towards the sound and saw Yuki sitting in a chair, his head nodded slowly and his eyes fluttered while he slept. His hand was laced with Tohru's.

She smiled to herself and gently gave his hand a tight squeeze. Yuki's eyes suddenly blinked open and he let out a small gasp.

"Miss Honda." He laughed softly and leaned his head in her shoulder. Tohru giggled, happy that he was now smiling. She breathed in his familiar scent and tears of joy rolled down the sides of her face. He cupped her face and kissed her forehead then pulled back grinning uncontrollably.

"Hi Prince Yuki." Tohru smiled back. Oh, how she missed him so much. The pain in her stomach now forgotten as she stared into his violet eyes.

He said nothing but smiled and leaned in to kiss her gently. Tohru Tohru welcomed it and slowly their lips moved together as one. She missed the feeling and sensation she would always feel as he caressed her so blissfully. His hand never left hers and during that time they shared an undisturbed moment in their own world. Yuki smiled against her lips and whispered, "I love you."

Tohru couldn't contain her happiness as she kissed him once more. A long, breathtaking kiss, "I love you too, forever and always."

------------------------

While Yuki accompanied Tohru at the hopsital, Uo was with Kyo and the Sohma family in court. She sat next to Kyo as Shigure explained the incident in the witness chair. There were no people in the court room other than the judge, the Sohma family, their lawyer, and Akito.

Uo stared at him as he slumped in his chair. He hasn't said a word throughout the whole testimony and he didn't give any slight reactions from what Shigure said. The judge went over his heneious crimes and he still didn't say anything. Uo couldn't see his eyes. His dark hair covered his face as his head bent forward.

She couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy towards the head Sohma. After all, he wouldn't have grown up to become such a insane person if it wasn't  his childhood. He was raised alone and was told that it was his destiny to die. Why else would he feel such hate towards everyone?

Uo backed out of her thoughts as she heard the sound of the gavel hit against the wooden counter. The judge stood up and looked down on Akito. His eyes cold and filled with such disgust.

"I've head enough of your crimes and misunderstandings, Mr. Sohma." He started, "You've mentally and physically abused your family members for a long time, you sent a dangerous gang after a girl, blackmailed her parents, and ended up shooting her best friend." He let out a long painful sigh, his eyebrows knitted up in disappointment, "What do you have to say in your defense?"

Uo leaned forward trying to hear Akito respond but he didn't. Instead he slowly locked eyes with the judge and they continued staring at each other as if they were having a silent conversation. It went like that for almost 5 minutes until the judge cleared his throat.

"Very well." He nodded, "Akito Sohma, I hereby sentence you to life in prison and sent to a mental institution where you will learn from your mistakes. Your actions that you have displayed throughout the last few years are looked down with disapprobation. I am filled with shock for what you have done and I hope that when the time has come, you will finally understand the crimes you have committed. Please follow the security behind you. Court case closed." He hit the gavel one last time.

Akito rose from his chair without a word and walked towards the back of the court room. All eyes turned to look at him as he passed the Sohmas. He then turned to them and said nothing. Uo stared into his eyes and she felt taken back. His eyes were not filled with hatred like she expected them to be, but they were filled with remorse and regret. They were glassy and looked as if they were trying to hold back tears. This was the true Akito. Right infront of her stood a vulnerable and scarred man. Then he finally spoke:

"I am no longer the head of the Sohma's nor should I have been in the first place." His voice shook, "I pass down my place to Hatori Sohma for he has shone wisdom and compassion to those around him. I assure you that he will protect you all with his life. I-" his voice caught in his throat, "I'm sorry for all the pain I have caused you."

Hatori stood up and walked towards Akito. He gave him a small bow and walked away. Then Kisa came out from the seated people and stood infront of him. She carefully gave Akito a hug around his legs. His face lit up in surprise then tears started to form in his eyes. They rolled down his cheeks and covered his face in his hands. The room was filled with the sound of his crying and hitched breaths. Uo suddenly felt a stab in her heart and she instantly felt hurt.

"Don't cry." Kisa said quietly, "I forgive you because that's what a family does."

Akito nodded in his hands and Kisa let go of him. She was then led back to her seat by Hiro. The security guards came and escorted Akito out of the room and that was the last time Uo saw him until the doors closed behind them.

Hey guys!!!!!

Tohru's okay!!!! Yay!!!!

I know I must sound crazy but as I wrote this chapter I felt bad for Akito. I honestly do. Yes he's a mad psychotic maniac but everyone is innocent and good. It was all because of what he went through.

Thank you all for the support and wonderful comments!

The next update will be the last and final chapter of Zodiacs, Curses, and Tohru!!!

Happy reading all!!!

-Marie
