Beep.... Beep.... Beep....

"Doctor, she's finally breathing." A female voice spoke.

A male voice replied. "Good, check her heart rate."

"Its going at a steady pace, but its still weak."

"Then we have to keep a very close eye on her."

Where am I..? Everything looks blurry...

Beep.. Beep.. Beep..

"Heart rate has increased, Doctor."

"Hello? Miss Uotani?"

Who's that..?

"Hello Miss, my name is Doctor Fujioko. You went through a very painful car crash..." The man said.

Car crash..? I don't remember.. Anything..

"But don't worry. We're doing the best we can to help you recover. You're doing great."

I feel terrible..

"Hi, I am Doctor Fujioko's assistant, Nurse Joy." The women spoke again.

Uo tried opening her eyes but she couldn't. All she saw was blurry shapes in her vision. Bright lights everywhere surrounded her.

I feel so dizzy..

Beep.... Beep.... Beep....

"Doctor, her heart rate has decreased!"

"Get the other nurses in here, quickly!"

Uo heard a faint sound of footsteps exiting.

"Everything's gonna be okay, Miss Uotani." Doctor Fujioko reassured her. "We just need help from the other nurses and-"

"And what?? You better make sure she gets better ya hear me!?"

Wait.. I know that voice..

"Mister Sohma, please calm down. We're doing the best we can."

"Hell no am I gonna calm down! She has to survive!" His voiced rang inside the room.

Kyo..? Is that you??

"And she will." The doctor insisted. "But right now, you should go back and wait in the waiting room."

"No I'm staying with her!"

"Mister Sohma, please. Its for Miss Uotani's health."

There was a pause and another voice spoke.

"Come on Kyo, we'll get to see Uo when its visiting hours." A soft voice responded.

Tohru..?

"Fine.. But you better save her! You have to!"

"We will." Doctor Fujioko replied. "Now please go back and wait."

A shuffle of footsteps walked away until Uo could barely hear them.

"Don't worry, Miss Uotani." The doctor soothed. "You'll be fine."

"I have Nurse Zina and Sarai on their way as we speak." Nurse Joy informed him as she walked back into the room.

"Good. Okay we'll start by.."

The voices became faint and Uo's blurry vision turned black.

Kyo watched in horror as he saw Uo fly backwards from the impact. The car abruptly stopped and drove away. She then collapsed on to asphalt and tumbled a few times before becoming still. He felt tears explode from his eyes.

Minako and her gang was no where to be found. Even Kasumi fled before Uo got hit by the car.

Kyo found a sharp piece of glass and quickly cut the ropes around him. Once he was freed he sprinted towards Uo's unmoving body. He knelt down next to her, staring at the cuts and bruises on her skin. Her arm was twisted in an odd angle and her forehead was bleeding.

"Why..?" Kyo whispered. "Why did you have to do this..?"

He cupped her face gently, brushing away the dirt from her cheeks. She looked so peaceful.. Its like the impact was nothing to her.. And why did she sacrifice herself for him?

Kyo silently sobbed. "I should've been the one to get hit, Yankee... Not you.."

He carefully picked up her body and cradled her in his arms. She didn't move at all, not even a little noise. Kyo felt hollow inside, like a part of him broke when he watched Uo get hit by the car. He also felt guilty because he couldn't do anything about it.. And now she had to be the one to go through all the pain.

"What am I gonna tell Tohru...?" He whispered.

As if on cue, he heard pounding of footsteps behind him. He turned around and saw Tohru, Yuki and Hana running up to him.

"Kyo!" Tohru called as she got closer to him. "Why are you..?"

Her voice faltered as she saw Uo lying in his arms, not moving.

"Uo!!" She knelt beside her best friend and collapsed on her. "Uo..."

Hana stood behind her speechless, but then tears suddenly erupted from her eyes. Yuki sat next to Kyo and carefully gave him a comforting hug. Kyo didn't care that he was supposed to hate Yuki, because at that time all he needed was a hug. He nodded gratefully and wiped his tears.

"We need to call an ambulance right now." Yuki demanded.

Hana got her phone out and started calling 911.

Tohru exchanged a look of despair with Kyo. Her eyes red and puffy from crying.

"They'll be here any minute." Hana replied as she tucked her phone inside her pocket.

5 minutes later an ambulance appeared on the road and was coming towards them. Once they parked next to the sidewalk, 2 men came out and carried a long foldable bed with them. They then carefully picked up Uo and laid her on the cot. A tall woman came up to them with a clipboard in her hands.

"Miss Hanajima told me what happened over the phone." She spoke. "But I need more specific details about what caused this incident. Please come ride with us in the ambulance."

Hana nodded and followed the lady towards the car. Behind them Yuki held Tohru in his arms and walked towards the ambulance, she was still crying softly.

Kyo watched as the two men lifted up the cot and placed it inside the ambulance. Uo stayed still the entire time.

"If she doesn't survive." Kyo sighed. "I don't know what I'll do..."

Kyo backed out of his memories a few hours before. He rubbed his face, trying to wake himself up and urge himself to believe it was all just a stupid nightmare. But whenever he would look out the window of the waiting room and see a car, it would always remind him the horrible incident of what happened to Uo.

The four friends sat in the waiting room for the last 5 hours while the doctors and nurses took a look at Uo in the ER. The only thing that kept them awake 4am in the morning was coffee from the cafeteria.

Kyo felt a hand touch his shoulder. He turned around to see it was Tohru.

"She'll be fine." She reassured him. But he could tell she was breaking inside. After what happened to her mother, he didn't think she could handle anymore pain if something happened to Uo.

Kyo nodded gratefully and stared outside the window next to him. It was still raining but only very lightly.

"Are you people here to see Arisa Uotani?"

Kyo looked to his left and saw a lady with a white coat standing in front of them.

"Yes, is she doing alright?" Hana asked.

The lady nodded. "Her health has improved but she's still a bit weak. The maximum of visitors in her room will be three."

"You guys go visit her first." Kyo suggested to Tohru, Yuki, and Hana.

"Are you sure?" Tohru asked. "You can go if you want-"

He shook his head. "I'm fine. Besides, I think she'll rather see you three first other than me."

Tohru nodded. "Oh okay, come on then let's go."

"Third room on your left down the right hall." She gestured to the group as they followed her.

--Time laps--

A couple of minutes later Kyo saw Tohru, Yuki, and Hana walked towards him. There faces suddenly brightened.

"How is she??" Kyo asked, getting up from his chair.

"Yes! She was able to open her eyes and speak." Tohru exclaimed happily.

"Though she's still weak and recovering." Hana added. "She's a bit slow of speaking but she's alright."

Kyo sighed in relief.

"You can go see her now." Yuki suggested.

"N-Now?"

"Yes, don't be a scaredy cat." He smirked.

Kyo scoffed and muttered. "Damn rat." With that he walked down the hall to his right. Third room to his left, the lady had said. The door was halfway open and he could hear the sound of beeps from the monitors. He opened the door slowly and stifled a gasp.

In front of him was Uo covered in a white blanket and was sitting up reading a manga. She looked tired and sleepy, her blonde hair was sticking out in different directions. There was a bandaid on her forehead which covered the gash and her arms had bruises on them.

Kyo walked inside and cleared his throat. Uo liked up from her book and made eye contact with him. Her brown eyes lit up and her lip tugged into a small smile.

Kyo couldn't help but smile himself. Warmth filled up inside him.

"Hey Yankee." He greeted.

"Hey orange top." She smirked.

And with those three words, Kyo never felt more happy to hear her call him orange top again.
