Chapter Five (Halloween Special! part two)
Virgo's POV
It was time for everyone to meet in Aqua's room, according to the shouts of Gemini I heard. I looked at myself in the mirror. For Halloween, I decided to dress up as Dorothy. I wore a blue and white checkered dress and gave myself two braids. I put on some red flats, too. They didn't look exactly like the shoes from the movie, but still. You can't be Dorothy without red shoes.
I smiled at my reflection and walked out of my dorm, into Aqua's. The door was already propped open so anyone could come in. I noticed that almost everyone was there, sitting around the room.
"Hey, Virgo!" Aqua greeted, smiling. She was wearing a purple dinosaur onesie with blue scales.
Sagi was wearing a pikachu onesie. She had red circles on her cheeks and a little black upside-down triangle on the tip of her nose. I looked over at Aries and my eyes widened.
"Aries, how did you manage to get a Batman costume?" I asked in surprise. He had the entire batman getup on; the mask, the cape, everything!
"Apparently he's a huge fan of Batman and already owned the costume." Leo answered. He was dressed up as a glam rockstar, with loads of glitter on his face and a big magenta star around his left eye.
"It makes sense, alright?!" Aries yelled in defence, taking the mask off his face. Libra, who was dressed up as Indiana Jones, simply looked down and shook his head.
Gemini came into the room from the kitchen and grinned at me. The left half of her face was a man, and the right half was a woman. Her hair was all swooped to her right side and she was wearing unisex clothing. I was very impressed with her getup and smiled back at her, giving a thumbs up.
Cancer, Capricorn, and Scorpio were all sitting together and I walked towards them. Cancer was a vampire. He had a pale face, dark makeup around his eyes and fake blood dripping from the corners of his mouth.
Scorpio had very impressive zombie makeup on and white contacts in so the only different colour in his eyes were his black pupils. Both him and Cancer looked creepy.
Capricorn was dressed up as the Joker from Suicide Squad. He, like Cancer, had a pale face and dark makeup around his eyes (not as much as Cancer, though). His eyebrows were covered with the same pale makeup that was on his entire face so it looked like he had no eyebrows and he also had slicked back bright green hair.
Basically, everyone looked awesome. I smiled from my excitement. I was really looking forward to all of us hanging out.
Suddenly, I heard the jingling of metal from the hallway. Pisces appeared in the doorway, dressed up as a gypsy. She was trying to drag someone in. I knew it was Taurus, since she's the only one that I haven't seen here.
"Cmon, Taurus!" Pisces whined, trying to pull her in.
"Maybe this is a bad idea," Taurus groaned, "I think I'll just go back to my dorm and eat candy."
"You can do that later! Now's the time to hang out with our friends!" Pisces said between grunts from trying to pull her in. The small metal things on her dress make a sound every time Pisces moved.
"But I look stupid!" Taurus shouted.
"No, you don't! Now get.. IN HERE!" Pisces yelled and with one last jolt Taurus stumbled in.
Because of the loud behaviour a few moments before, everyone's eyes were on Taurus who was blushing in embarrassment and frustration. I could see why, her costume was extremely unexpected. And adorable. Taurus was dressed at a cat. She was wearing all black clothes and had black cat ears on the top of her head. She also had little whiskers drawn on her cheeks and a black upside-down triangle on the tip of her nose.
"Aww.. Taurus, you look cute!" Aries said, and everyone nodded in agreement.
Taurus turned completely red.
"Shut up!" She grumbled and looked at the ground.
"Alright, I'm bored!" Sagi announced while jumping up.
Gemini stood up beside her, saying, "Yeah! Let's party!"
Almost everyone cheered in agreement. So, we left the school and walked into town.
"Let's go TP that house!" Sagi exclaimed while running off. Leo, Gemini, and Aries followed her. They were all carrying bags filled with toilet paper and other objects.
I sighed and shook my head at them.
"Well, what should we do?" Pisces spoke up.
"We could... um..." Cancer trailed off.
"I'm going to find a haunted house!" Aqua exclaimed and ran off.
"I wanna come!" Libra called and chased after her.
"The only place I want to go is a place with candy." Taurus said, and walked away. Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio went with her.
"Well, what now?" Capricorn asked, for him and I were the only ones left.
"Uhh.. wanna go watch a movie?" I suggested.
Capricorn nodded and we walked off.
Pisces' POV
"Uhm, Taurus... Where are we going?" I asked warily. We were walking down the Main Street which was filled with stores. Right now it was dark and deserted, with most places being closed and not many people walking around besides Scorpio, Cancer, Taurus, and I.
"We're going to get some candy." Taurus replied monotonously.
"It looks like all the stores are closed, though." Cancer pointed out, and I nodded.
"Who says the store needs to be open?" Taurus asked.
I gulped. We were going to steal? I looked at Scorpio and found that he was smirking.
"What about the security?" Cancer questioned, "We could be caught on camera or something."
"That's why we're going to a smaller, less popular store. They won't have any security." Scorpio answered, and Taurus nodded.
"Also, we're wearing costumes. It'd be harder to recognize us if we were seen." Taurus added.
Taurus and Scorpio stopped in front of a cute pink candy shop.
How do they both know what to do and where they're going? Can they read each other's minds?! Maybe they've done this together before. They never mentioned it...
Taurus began to pick at the lock with a bobby pin and eventually everyone heard a "click". The door opened and everyone walked in. It was hard to see, so we all turned on our phones' flashlights. The middle of the room was empty giving us freedom to roam and rows upon rows of candies and chocolates I'd never seen before were all along the walls. The only empty space on the wall was behind the cashier table, which was close to the wall.
"Well everyone," Taurus announced, "Now we feast!"
Scorpio, Cancer and I just stood there.
"I just realized I'm not very hungry." I stated.
"Do you guys wanna go to the haunted house or something?" Cancer asked. Scorpio and I nodded.
"Alright, let's go! C'mon, Taurus!" I exclaimed, and looked back at Taurus.
Taurus was just standing there, not moving or making a sound.
"I think.." she muttered, "I think I'm just gonna stay here."
"Are you sure?" Cancer stammered, "I could stay with you if you want."
"No, it's fine. Go have fun. I wanted to do something like this anyways." Taurus told him, and Cancer hesitantly followed us out the door.
Leaving Taurus all alone.
Aries' POV
"Everyone, if you need to tell me something don't call me Aries. Call me Batman."
Sagi, Gemini, Leo and I were hiding in a bush discussing our evil plans for tp-ing the house.
"Why would we do that?" Sagi scoffed.
"So that people will have no way of recognizing us, Pikachu." I answered Sagi, emphasizing on her new code name. She simply rolled her eyes and smiled in response.
"I want a code name too," Leo said, "I will be... Prince Charming."
"For that," Gemini stated, "I'm calling you Shrek."
"What? No!"
"Alright so I'm Batman, Sagi is Pikachu, and Leo's Shrek. What should Gemini's nickname be?"
"Wait! I don't wanna be Shr-"
"Hmm," Gemini mused, "I want my nickname to be Tiny! I was thinking Mini but 'mini' is in my real name so I pick Tiny instead."
"No! Gemini chose my name so I get to choose he-"
"Okay so it's Batman, Pikachu, Shrek, and Tiny."
"Is everyone just ignoring m-"
"Alright!" Sagi announced excitedly, "Let's go!"
Everyone picked up their bag and walked towards the house we chose to cover in toilet paper. We decided to go to the rich side of town and TP one of those houses because rich people always have so much space and fancy things on their front lawns. It's so much more fun to mess up the big fancy things. I bet the reactions are more hilarious, too.
The yard we chose to TP had four trees (one in each corner) and a fountain right in the centre. We made our first attack together on the fountain, and then we split up and toilet-papered each of the trees.
"Hey guys," I called, "Do you think it'd be okay if I spray painted the concrete?"
"Um, no." Gemini snorted.
"Why not?!"
"Batman, I'm pretty sure spray paint is much harder to get rid of than toilet paper. Just use chalk or something."
"Fine."
I crouched by the driveway and drew the Batman symbol with chalk.
BUT GUESS WHAT.
It was waterproof chalk.
Mwahahaha...
All of a sudden, I heard a door slam in the front yard. Everyone ran and hid. Sagi had it the worst because she was TP-ing a tree near the front door, and she bolted to hide behind a bush in the neighbour's yard. Gemini and Leo were farther away from the house because they got the trees close to the road, so they just hid behind them. Being on the driveway, I hid behind a car.
"WHAT THE HELL!" I heard a old man roar, followed by many not-so-nice words.
I peeked over the hood of the car, seeing the angered man looking at our work of art. If Batman could choose any time to run away, he'd choose this time. With that in mind, I prepared to bolt.
But then Sagi sneezed.
And the world went quiet.
I peeked over the hood of the car again and saw the man, stalking toward where Sagi was.
I have to save her!
How?!
I don't know but I have to!
Just run! She can fend for herself!
I AM BATMAN. I AM WEARING THE MASK OF WARRIORS, THE CAPE OF CHAMPIONS. I CAN'T JUST HIDE BEHIND THE BATMOBILE! I WILL BE A FAILURE TO MY FELLOW BATFOLK IF I BACK DOWN.
I searched the area, looking for something that could help me save Gotham City.
And then I saw it.
The perfect weapon.
Sagittarius' POV
This is it. This is how I die.
As the old scary man approached where I was hidden, I thought about my dying wishes.
I want to be cremated and buried right underneath Zodiac High so I can haunt everyone for eternity.
Ooh or maybe underneath that one store with all the cranky store clerks.
Take that, you jerks.
Let's see who you force gross samples on NOW when everyone's too scared to step foot in your sad store. I hope I make you close down.
Wait. Oh my God.
I think...
I think I see the light...
Okay, that's enough. I'm being as dramatic as Leo.
The closer the man got to where I was hiding, the more I began to tense up. But then...
"STOP RIGHT THERE." Aries yelled from across the lawn.
The man spun around, his back now facing me and I peeked through the bush to find Aries with a hose along with an attached sprayer, holding it the way cowboys would hold guns.
Well, at least I won't be the only one dying.
"Make one move and it'll be your last." Aries hissed in his best Batman voice, "I've got this baby at the harshest setting."
"This is my property," the man sneered while taking a step forward, "Get off my lawn before I call the police!"
Aries sprayed the man in the face with the cold hose water.
"I TOLD YOU NOT TO MOVE!" he spat, spraying the man again.
"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!" The old man screamed angrily.
"I'M BATMAN!" Aries yelled and continuously shot water at the man, who let a long chain of curse words come from his mouth.
"SHREK, PIKACHU, TINY, RUN!" Aries demanded while dropping the hose and bolting out of the yard. I jumped out of the bush and dashed after Gemini and Leo, who apparently had been watching the whole time.
We all ended up at the movie theatre, breathing heavily and gasping for air.
"That was.. so awesome." Gemini panted, and Leo nodded in agreement.
After everyone regained their energy, we decided that since we were already here we should get tickets for a movie that was about to start.
"Sagi? Gemini? Aries? Leo? Is that you?" someone said, and we spun around to see Pisces, Scorpio, and Cancer.
"Hey!" Pisces greeted, "How'd your guys' prank go?"
We all responded at the same time. Aries, Gemini, and Leo said it was awesome and I said it was terrible.
"Oh, cool..? We were just going to a haunted house. I'm guessing you guys are going to watch a movie?" Pisces said, and I nodded.
Suddenly, Virgo and Capricorn walked out of the theatre.
"Oh, hey!" Virgo said, and Capricorn smiled at us.
"Hi! Is the movie you guys watched done already?" I guessed.
"No, it was just really terrible. We couldn't bear to watch the rest of it so we left." Virgo sighed.
Everyone slowly nodded in understanding.
"Where's Taurus? Didn't she go with you guys?" Capricorn asked Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio.
"She... didn't want to join us." Cancer hesitantly explained with a sad expression on his face.
"She's at the new candy store on Main Street. It's called.. um.." Pisces trailed off.
"Ellie's Candy," Scorpio piped in, "We all broke into that store and Taurus was the only one that wanted to stay."
"She's just chilling in a candy store she broke into?!" Aries exclaimed, "That's so badass! I'm gonna go check it out. Guys, watch the movie without me!"
Aries ran off. I watched him run until he was out of sight. He looked so dumb with the cape flowing behind him. When I brought my attention back to everyone else Aqua and Libra were there, explaining that Aqua wanted to go to the corn maze.
"Oh! Capricorn wanted to go to the corn maze too. You guys should go together. I'll go to the haunted house with Scorpio, Cancer, and Pisces." Virgo said.
"Yeah! And Libra, you can watch a movie with us if you want." Gemini offered.
Libra glanced at Aqua for a short moment and then looked back at us.
"Sure." he replied.
"Alright, enough with all this planning!" I yelled, "Let's go!"
And with that, we went our separate ways once again.
Taurus' POV
I was sitting silently in the candy shop, leaning my back against the wall and holding my knees to my chest. There was only one candy wrapper on the floor near me, which I'm sure you all find surprising. I could've eaten more, I just didn't feel like it. I was glad that no one could see me like this.
But then I heard a quick knock on the door and saw Aries storming in.
"HEY!" he shouted.
"Watch it! You're gonna break something!" I hissed.
Aries then closed the door behind him so slowly and softly it was aggravating. I sighed in annoyance as he walked towards me and sat down.
"Soo what's up? Why're you here all by yourself?" Aries asked.
"Because I like to be by myself." I scoffed.
"Even when all your friends are out having fun without you and you could've been out having fun with them?" Aries countered, "C'mon, Taurus. What's going on?"
"Nothing.. Even if there was something going on, why would I tell you about it?"
"Why wouldn't you tell me about it?"
"Because you seem like the last person I should trust."
"With you, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone was the last person you should trust. But I should be the first person you trust! Look at me, I'm Batman!"
"No, Cancer's the first person I trust. Not you. Not this stupid Batman-loving side of you."
I gulped at what I just said. Maybe I was being too harsh. But when I looked Aries in the eye I saw that he wasn't angry at all. It was weird, he seemed like such a hotheaded guy but he never got upset at the rude things I said. It made me feel more relaxed, like I could be whoever I wanted and he'd still be my friend. It also made me want to punch him in the face.
"Well, Cancer's not here right now so you're just going to have to trust this awesome Batman-loving guy because... I know you've got an awesome Batman-loving side of you too. Deep down, everyone has a side of them that loves Batman. No matter how hard they try to hide it, they know they have it. No matter how hard you try to hide your Batman-loving side, Taurus, I know. I know it's there, and you shouldn't be afraid to hide it from me. Maybe one day you won't be afraid to hide it from anyone." Aries spoke.
"Uh, is that supposed to be some weird metaphor for something?" I questioned, "Aries, are you trying to be deep?"
Secretly, though, I knew what he meant. I didn't need him to explain it. I think Aries knew that too.
So he simply grinned and said, "Yep."
I rolled my eyes and smirked in response.
"So anyways," Aries began, "Why'd you stay here instead of go with everyone else?"
I looked down at my knees.
"It's stupid really," I sighed, "I guess I was expecting everyone to like this place as much as I do. I was so excited to come here with my friends for the first time and share something I love with them, but they decided it was time to leave as soon as they got here. It made me... I dunno. Upset or whatever. So, I decided to stay here to be alone. It doesn't really matter, this is what I wanted to do in the first place. And I wasn't lying when I said I enjoyed being alone... But for some reason, I didn't really like being alone today."
I looked at Aries. I don't know why I told him all that. Maybe it really was the Batman costume.
"Well you're not alone anymore," Aries said with a grin, "We could be partners in crime! I'm obviously Batman. Ooh, and you'll be Catwoman!"
"Catwoman?" I snorted, "Why Catwoman? And.. is she good or bad?"
"I guess she's both. She's a thief, but has been Batman's ally once in a while. She's also been his lover. I think it's perfect for you. You're even dressed up as a cat! I guess Catwoman had a tight bodysuit but I'm cool with what you have on now-"
"Alright, alright, alright! You can shut up now."
We both grabbed a candy bar and began to eat it.
"Hey, Taurus?"
"Yes, Aries?"
"We should pay for these."
"Uhh... why?"
"Because I'm Batman! We must do what's right! I will not let my ally, Catwoman, be evil in my presence."
"Aries, didn't you just toilet paper an innocent person's house? How is that not evil? You're being a hypocrite."
"Nooo, that man was mean! He deserved it.. But that's besides the point. We should leave some money to pay for the meal. I'll even write a note."
"Okay fine, do whatever you want."
Aries jumped up while grabbing a crumpled piece of paper that was laying on the floor and placing it on the cashier table, smoothing it out as well as he could.
"Catwoman, bring me the Batpen." Aries demanded, and I rolled my eyes and grabbed a pen from the bag that I brought with me. I chucked it at Aries but was surprised when he spun around and caught it with one hand.
"How'd you do that?" I asked.
"Super bat senses and awesome reflexes." Aries answered, making me scoff.
When Aries was done writing the letter, I got up and walked over to read it. I smirked at an error he made at the end and crossed out what he had and then wrote what was supposed to be there. I read the note over again...
Leo's POV
The life of a woman... it's tough, really.
How do they wear makeup all the time? It feels so weird on your face! Also, it takes forever to put on perfectly. And heels are terrible too! I wasn't wearing them at the moment, but I've stolen a pair of Gemini's before and it was torture. They were so painful and hard to walk in, but when I see girls wear them they show no pain whatsoever.
I could never be a girl. I can barely handle wearing makeup.
After we ran to the movie theatre, I was sweating up a storm. I was worried about my makeup being smeared or something, and repeatedly asked Sagi how I looked. Even though she always said I looked fine, I checked my appearance in a bathroom mirror anyways. My makeup was actually okay and I was relieved. But then it started to itch and feel uncomfortable on my skin.
We were then watching the horror movie and I was trying not to scratch my cheek because I didn't want to mess my face up. As I watched the movie, though, I forgot about how uncomfortable I once was and relaxed.
I was seated between Gemini and Sagi (Sagi was to the right of me, and Gemini was seated to my left). Libra was sitting on the other side of Gemini. Being between the two girls, I thought about doing the ol' yawning trick and wrapping my arms around their shoulders, but I decided not to because I didn't want two girls smacking me at the same time. I've experienced that before, and it does not feel good. Anyways. Back to the horror movie.
A suspenseful scene was playing, but I wasn't super scared. Even if I was frightened, I wouldn't show it. I'm too manly to express fear.
Sagi didn't look scared either, it looked like she was really enjoying the movie. She was munching on popcorn and staring at the projection with excitement.
I couldn't see Libra, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was just thinking about Aqua and wishing she was here the entire time.
When I looked at Gemini I noticed that she was tense, gripping the arms of her chair and slightly frowning. I placed my hand on her shoulder and her head snapped to look at me with her eyes wide.
"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. I'd never seen her like this and felt a strong urge to comfort her.
Gemini nodded vigorously and slightly relaxed.
"I'm a little better now." she mumbled and gave me a small smile.
I looked down at Gemini's hand that was still holding onto the arm of the chair tightly and I gulped. Staring straight ahead and not daring to look at the girl on my left, I slowly lifted my hand and placed it on hers. I felt Gemini jump a little in her seat, but she soon relaxed again and moved her hand so she could hold mine. Still not looking at her, I gave Gemini's hand a reassuring squeeze and hoped that she wouldn't see the light blush on my cheeks.
Every time a scary or gory scene came up Gemini would grip my hand a little tighter than she was holding it before, but I didn't mind.
For a while I was embarrassed about holding her hand in public, even though it was dark in the theatre. I wondered if Sagi or Libra could see us. After a while, I stopped caring about what people thought. Gemini is my friend, and I was proud of myself for being able to comfort her.
.. Also, it felt nice to hold her hand. Her hand was smooth and warm.
...And when I held it, it made me feel warm too.
Cancer's POV
"So... how scary are these things?" I heard Pisces ask as we walked down the hallway towards the entry of the haunted house.
"It depends on the house." Virgo replied, "There's really no way to tell how scary it is unless you go in."
"Don't worry, I made sure we'd go to one that's really scary." Scorpio added while smirking slightly.
"Great..." Virgo, Pisces and I said simultaneously.
I was just hoping that I wouldn't embarrass myself in front of everyone by getting too freaked out. It's been a while since I've done or seen anything that could potentially be terrifying, so I didn't know how I'd react to all the jump scares.
When we entered the haunted house, the strobe lights were quickly blinking on and off and I noticed a cloud of smoke covering the floor, so thick I couldn't see my feet. The four of us were walking in a line; Scorpio in the front, then Virgo, then me, and Pisces at the back.
As we neared the end of the hallway, I expected someone to scare us from behind the corner. When we turned the corner, though, I was surprised that nothing happened. Suddenly, a zombie jumped out from beside us and let out a loud, raspy groan. Along with the completely white eyes, the flesh on his face was ripped open, revealing rotting muscles and bones underneath. I didn't scream, but I did tense up. However, I could hear Pisces shriek before she huddled closer to me and clung to my shirt.
"Gogogogogo," she squeaked while nudging me to move forward.
When we walked away from the zombie, I saw in the corner of my eye that he was slowly trudging behind while making low moans and growls. This made Pisces tense up and press against me even more, which made me feel a little uncomfortable but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to make Pisces feel bad.
This went on for a while; monsters jumping out and scaring us, some of us getting super freaked out, Pisces moving closer to me for... safety..?
Closer to the end of the haunted house, more people were jumping out at us and I began to feel things brushing past my feet (which I still couldn't see from all the smoke). All of a sudden, Pisces let out a loud shriek and wrapped her arms around me.
"Pisces? What's wrong?" I stammered, shocked and flustered from her action.
"Something grabbed my ankle!" she squealed, "I'm sorry for asking this, but... um... could you... couldyoucarrymeplease!"
I froze in surprise for a moment. "Carry.. you?"
"I'm sorry for bothering you about this, but I just can't take it anymore.." she mumbled.
I gulped before slowly picking up Pisces bridal style and carrying her through the rest of the haunted house, feeling my face heat up. Pisces' arms were wrapped around my neck, and she was resting her head against my chest with her eyes shut tight.
I was still carrying her when we finally reached the end of the haunted house, and Pisces and I were the last ones to exit the building. This was the first time Virgo and Scorpio saw me carrying Pisces, so they were quite surprised to see her in my arms nuzzling into my chest. I muttered to Pisces that I was going to put her down and she opened her eyes while loosening her hold on me as I set her down. Scorpio and Virgo were still staring at us, Virgo had her eyebrow raised in suspicion while Scorpio was frowning.
"What.. happened in there?" Virgo hesitantly asked.
"Nothing!" Pisces and I quickly responded. This likely made us seem even more suspicious, and I saw Scorpio frown (specifically at me) even more before turning around.
"Let's go." he grumbled.
Pisces ran up to him, with Virgo and I behind her.
"Try not to do stuff like that with Pisces around Scorpio." Virgo whispered to me.
"There was nothing going on, I swear!" I whispered back.
"I know," Virgo responded, "But.. Scorpio tends to overthink things. He might assume that you two like each other, and when you know the person you like likes someone else... It hurts. A lot."
I stared at Virgo for a moment. She tried to hide her unhappy expression by looking at the ground.
"Virgo... are you alright?" I asked, concern laced in my voice.
Virgo looked up at me and smiled softly, but the hurt was evident in her eyes.
"I will be."
Capricorn's POV:
"That'll be five dollars." The woman running the corn maze told us.
"Shouldn't this cost a little more than that?" I asked, confused.
"We have a special discount for all the couples that come in." the woman explained.
"Oh, but we-"
"Thank you, ma'am!" Aquarius interrupted me, handing the woman a five dollar bill and grabbing my hand.
"Have fun, you two!" The woman said as Aquarius and I walked in, still holding hands.
"What was that?" I asked.
Aquarius looked me dead in the eye, with the most serious expression I'd ever seen her have.
"Never, and I mean never, let a possible discount slip away."
I slowly nodded, but couldn't help the small smile that crept upon my face. We glanced down at our intertwined hands and Aquarius immediately apologized while releasing my hand from her grasp. She looked incredibly flustered as she pressed her lips together and stared at the ground, and I had to fight back the desire to grab her hand again.
For a few minutes, we just walked through the maze in silence until Aquarius spoke up.
"Crap," she groaned, "I already feel lost."
I chuckled and kept walking, not saying anything.
"Well jeez, Cap! I'm trying to get a conversation going, don't just ignore me!" she pouted, and I smirked.
"I didn't have anything to say. Also," I flicked her forehead, "Don't call me 'Cap'."
"Ow! Fine," Aquarius groaned while placing her hand on her forehead, "... Cappy."
"No nicknames."
"How about... Capri?"
"No."
"Capro?"
"Aquarius..."
"Capra?"
"Don't make me flick your forehead again."
"... How about Corn?"
I stopped walking and stared at Aquarius blankly.
"Don't ever call me that again." I said dully.
She snickered in response.
"But it's such a great nickname! Ooh, and we're even in a corn maze! Corn.. It's so per-"
I swiftly moved closer to Aquarius, firmly placing my hand over her mouth and moving my face closer to hers, giving her an expressionless stare.
"Please stop." I said monotonously, and Aquarius nodded.
We never broke our gaze when I moved my hand away from her mouth, and neither of us moved away from each other. I stared into her eyes, feeling a sense of euphoria. I wondered what she felt when she looked into my own eyes. Virgo's words echoed through my mind.
"You should tell her, Capricorn."
I took a deep breath, feeling my heartbeat increase.
"Aquarius?" I whispered.
"Yeah?" Aquarius breathed, and I felt her warm breath fan across my face.
I glanced at all her facial features; her eyes, her lips...
And I could feel myself leaning in.
But I stopped myself. I took a step back, letting out a small cough and straightening my posture.
"Let's, um..." I mumbled, "Let's get going."
Aquarius nodded, looking away from me.
Shit.
I had made things painfully awkward for the both of us. I wanted to tell her I liked her, and yeah, I wanted to kiss her, but the more I thought about it the more it didn't feel right. Also, if I were to tell her this far away from the end of the maze it would've been a long inescapable walk if she rejected me.
She probably thinks I already like her from what just happened, though...
Shiiiiit.
While we were walking through the rest of the corn maze, we were quiet. I was almost grateful for the silence, though. I don't think I would've been ready for a forced conversation. Also, this gave me more time to think about everything.
For example, what would I want to happen between us if I told her I liked her? I guess I just wanted to get it off of my chest in the beginning, but when I finally thought about it I decided I wanted a relationship. I wanted her to like me as much as I liked her, and I didn't want anyone else to be able to date her. I wanted to watch Netflix with her and eat pizza while we cuddled and laughed together (I know it's corny, shut up). I wanted to hold her hand, and I hoped that she wanted to hold my hand. I smiled at the thought.
"Hey, Capricorn?" Aquarius broke the silence near the end of the maze. She stopped walking, and I did the same while turning to look at her. She slowly and hesitantly looked me in the eye before speaking again.
"This entire time... I've been thinking about what happened earlier. When we were, um.. really close to each other," Aquarius let out a sigh to try make herself more relaxed, "I don't know what to think about it, honestly. I mean... I do, but I don't want to be getting the wrong idea. So, I thought I'd just be straightforward and ask what it meant to you so I don't run around like an idiot with the wrong impression in my head for the rest of my life."
"Well, what was your impression of it?" I asked. I was trying to sound as calm as I could.
"I, um... thought it was... intimate. Like, not something that simple friends would do," Aquarius stammered, "I felt like there was more going on.. I felt like we wanted, in that moment, for more to be going on." Even in the dark, I could see Aquarius' face redden at that last statement as she looked at the ground.
"You're right." I spoke calmly. Aquarius' head shot up.
"W-what?" she stuttered, her eyes widening.
There's no turning back now, I thought to myself.
"I like you," I confessed, "And I was wondering if you'd like to be my girlfriend."
Aquarius froze.
"Really?" she whispered, "Are... are you being serious? Please say if you're just joking or saying that to make me feel good because I really don't kn-"
"Aquarius," I interjected, "I would never lie to you about that."
Aquarius was silent for a moment before letting out a small breath of relief.
"Thank you. It actually makes me really happy to hear that. And I'm sorry, but I think I'll need some time to think about this. I can't give you an answer yet because I honestly don't know what the answer should be," Aquarius said, "I have to clear my head and find out what I want so that I don't make an irrational decision for both of our sakes. I'm sorry... Would you be willing to wait for me? It's alright if you're not."
I have to admit, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get an immediate answer. It kind of hurt that Aquarius wasn't as sure about how she felt as I was. However, I can honestly say that I was okay with waiting for a response. I'd rather have one later than not have one at all.
So I told her that I was willing to wait. After that, we left the corn maze and began walking towards the forest. I was surprised that the walk wasn't as awkward as I anticipated. Key word: as.
Gemini's POV
I am a genius.
I pretty much planned everything that would happen on Halloween, and it all went perfectly. Let me give you a recap.
After we toilet papered the house and were running away from the crazy old guy I happened to be running ahead, leading everyone towards the movie theatre so that we'd all get the idea to watch a movie. Then, I made sure to sit on the left side of Leo so that he would see the right side of me (aka the pretty woman side of me).
I pretended to act reaaaally scared every time a scary scene played and hoped that Leo would notice, which he did. After that.. WE HELD HANDS FOR THE ENTIRE MOVIE. Again, I'm a genius. A very happy genius.
After the movie, I texted everyone that we should all meet at the edge of the forest by a certain building. When we all met up, we went into the forest and started setting up a nice little place to sit and hang out. We got things to sit on and then set up a fire, bordering it with rocks and using loose branches and toilet paper rolls as kindling. Whenever we found a really big and thick branch, we'd give it to Leo who would swing it like a baseball bat and hit it against a tree to break the branch into smaller pieces. After everything was set up, we all sat around the fire and started talking with one another.
"Alright," I suddenly announced, "I think it's time I tell you a scary story."
"I thought you didn't like scary stuff." Leo said, confused.
"Yeah," Sagi added with a smirk, "From what I saw at the movie theatre you were-"
"Reading and listening to scary things is completely different from watching them." I loudly interrupted, and I gave Sagi a quick 'please don't say anything' look.
"Alright, this'll be pretty intense so if you're not good with gore cover your ears..." I warned before I began the story.
(A/N) This story is actually kinda gory (in my opinion) so if you aren't good with gore skip this and I'll let you know when the goriness is over.
I got my best scary storytelling face on, but before I began my eyes widened and I looked behind every single person.
"Don't look now, but there's a man behind one of you."
When I saw some zodiacs start to turn around I shouted, "I said not to look! Anyways...
"This man has a knife. This knife has killed many people before. It is stained blood red. You can feel a chill down the back of your neck... You can hear a dripping noise behind you, can't you? That's the fresh blood from the knife, dripping. The smell of the blood is absolutely gut wrenching. If you close your eyes, you can actually picture the blood dripping off the knife onto the grass... He is about to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and then he'll drag you deeper into the forest so no one will hear your screams; only the calming sound of a piano. Then he's going to tie you to a tree and put you through the most agonizing pain imaginable.
"He'll start by leaving a long deep cut on both your arms... then he'll cut off all your fingers and toes one by one. After that, he'll cut open your stomach and rip out your intestines. He'll cut randomly at your legs, removing muscle tissue and even carving into your bones, especially at the joints. Then he'll go to your face. Layer by layer he'll start cutting off your nose. As soon as he's finished he'll move onto the ears, first slicing off the outer ears and then jamming his knife so deep in your ear he bursts the eardrum. He'll stretch your mouth open so wide that the sides of your lips begin to tear, and then he'll remove all of your teeth one by one. Last but not least he'll take his knife, shove it into your left eye, and twist. You will feel the nerves tearing and your eye moving in unnatural ways around your eye socket before it's torn out with a horrid 'POP' sound. The man will walk away from you, satisfied with his work. Leaving behind a horrible, gory, bloody, hello fire mess of human flesh. After that... he's going to come back here...
"And stand behind someone else."
(A/N HEYYY THE SCARY STORY'S DONE I HOPE YOU DIDN'T SCROLL TOO FAR AND SORRY FOR INTERRUPTING THE STORY... OKAY BYE HAVE FUN READING AGAIN)
Scorpio's POV
"The end!" Gemini exclaimed at the end of her story.
Everyone sat there in silence, staring at Gemini who simply grinned.
"Uh.. that was pretty graphic.." Libra said, slightly scooting away from Gemini.
"You didn't make up that story, did you?" Sagi questioned.
"Nah, I found it on the Internet."
I started to ignore the awkward conversation between all the weirded out people and oblivious Gemini.
"Hey Scorpio," I heard Aqua whisper to me, "Would you like to pull a prank on everyone with me?"
I smirked, looking at her with interest in my eyes.
"What kind of prank?" I asked quietly.
Aqua smirked back and explained what she was going to do, and I nodded in agreement.
Since everyone was still awkwardly conversing with Gemini, Aquarius was able to disappear from the circle without catching any attention. Eventually, we began to hear Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata playing loudly nearby.
"Um.. what's going on?" Virgo asked worriedly.
Slowly but surely, everyone started getting more tense and scared. Everyone started quietly talking to one another, glancing all around to try and see what was happening.
"This sounds like..."
"Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata."
"Isn't that the thing the guy played in the story Gemini told?"
"Gem, what's going on?"
"I'm not doing anything, I swear!"
"Wait... where's Aquarius?"
Everyone was silent after Capricorn said that.
"Scorpio... did you see her leave?" Libra asked, and I shook my head.
That's when people stared to really panic.
"Oh shit, he took her!"
"No, that's impossible! That guy doesn't exist!.. I don't think..."
"AQUAAAA WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"Shut up, Gemini!"
"I'm sorry! I don't want her to get her nose sliced off!"
"Everyone, calm down! Maybe Aqua is the person behind all this."
"SCORPIO HE'S BEHIND YOU!"
As soon as Pisces screamed that, I felt a person grab me and start pulling me away. Of course, I knew it was Aqua so I played along and started thrashing around and screaming.
"LET GO OF ME!" I yelled.
"Ugh.. I'm thinking about it," Aqua grunted, "You're so freakin heavy!"
I could hear and see everyone screaming, some of them standing up and running after me.
"Aqua, go faster! They're after us!"
"I don't know if I can go faster, Scorpio! Either I need to start working out or you need to stop!"
Suddenly, Leo started bolting towards us, letting out a loud battle cry.
"Aqua, look out!" I shouted, but I was too late.
Leo jumped at Aqua and tackled her to the ground.
"DON'T HIT ME, IT'S ME! IT'S AQUARIUS!"
Aqua screamed when Leo rose his fist. Leo sat up and squinted at her, before standing up and helping her up.
"Sorry." They said at the same time.
Aqua went to her phone and stopped playing the music.
"Wait, that was YOU doing this the whole time?" Aries yelled.
"Yep," Aqua admitted timidly while rubbing the back of her neck, "Sorry."
"I'm actually kinda impressed." Sagi said.
"Yeah, there's no need to apologize. You're already forgiven!" Gemini exclaimed.
After everyone settled down, we all grabbed our stuff and started walking out of the forest and back to the school. I was walking with Pisces.
"Hey, Scorpio..." she suddenly spoke.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry for making you upset at the haunted house. I didn't think I'd be that scared and I'm sorry if I was annoying.."
"Pisces, you weren't being annoying."
"Oh.. then what was it?"
"I was mad at myself for making you do something that made you uncomfortable and that I couldn't help."
That statement was actually true, by the way. I wasn't just jealous...
Yeah, forget I said that.
Libra's POV
I was walking through the forest with Aries and Leo, talking about what we did that night.
"How was the candy store, Aries?" Leo asked with a smirk on his face.
"Oh, it was great! The chocolate bars were super good. I'm gonna go there lots from now on." Aries said.
"Are you gonna go with Taurus?" I inquired, also smirking.
"If she wants to come, then yeah!" Aries shrugged, "You guys could come too."
Leo face-palmed. "You're more oblivious than Aqua."
"What? What'd I do?" Aries asked.
"Speaking of Aqua," Leo began, "How was your time with her, Libra?"
I sighed. "Uneventful."
"Start making it eventful, then!" Aries groaned.
"Yeah!" Leo agreed.
I rolled my eyes. "Leo, how's your love life?"
Leo was silent. He opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it.
"Exactly," I said, "Uneventful. And also, Aries, you don't even know what a love life is."
Aries stared at me, dumbfounded. "What?!"
"Alright, alright!" Leo shouted, "We all have crappy, uneventful, unknown love lives."
I chuckled and nodded in agreement.
Lately I've been really defensive when it comes to talking about how things are going with Aqua. I always feel bad and weird about it afterwards, though. I just feel so disappointed in myself whenever I don't make a move, and my friends nagging me doesn't help. I know they mean well, but I also know that when I don't do anything it disappoints them too. And I don't want to disappoint anyone.
The sound of someone's sniffling made me snap back to reality (oh, there goes gravity) and stop walking.
"Libra, are you coming?" Leo called.
"Go on without me, guys.." I told him and Aries, who both shrugged and kept walking.
I continued to follow the sound of someone crying until I found someone I would've never expected to see cry.
"Virgo?"
Her head turned to where I was standing. Virgo was leaning against a tree, holding her knees to her chest and... sobbing. Seeing her like that made me feel absolutely terrible.
"Hi." Virgo mumbled.
"What's wrong?" I asked, sitting down beside her.
Virgo took a deep breath.
".. Promise you won't judge me or say anything to anyone." she said, giving me a serious look.
"I promise." I stated, returning the serious gaze.
Virgo looked at her knees.
"Well, I like this guy, and.. You know what, screw it. I'll just use their names.
"I like Capricorn. But.. Capricorn doesn't like me. He likes Aqua. And today, I told him to ask her out. A few minutes ago... Capricorn told me that he actually did tell Aqua he liked her and even asked her to be his girlfriend. Aqua basically told him she'd think about it, and now I'm just stuck here feeling sad and stupid that I ever thought I had a chance with Capricorn. And if him and Aqua become a couple I'll be forgotten. That's the worst part because I didn't just have a crush on Capricorn, he was probably my best friend. Now... I won't be able to have him as a boyfriend or a best friend."
When Virgo finished, I was silent. My heart sank when she mentioned Aqua. That made me kinda want to cry too, actually. I felt so stupid. I lost my chance to tell Aqua I liked her. I wasn't going to try and make her choose between me and Capricorn because that's not how I am. Once I thought about it, though, I realized that I was always just a friend to her. Nothing more than that. That really stung.
"If it makes you feel better," I muttered, "I like Aqua so we're kinda feeling the exact same torture right at this moment."
Virgo's eyes widened and she stared at me.
"Seriously?" she stammered, shocked. I nodded.
".. That actually does make me feel a bit better." Virgo admitted.
When I thought about it, that made me feel better as well. I didn't have to feel crappy by myself. It's nice to know that you're not alone.
"Yeah." I agreed.
"Cause both the people we like are probably on cloud nine..."
"Yep."
"And both of us are left behind to feel like shit."
"Exactly!"
"Yeah! They'll just be making out cause they're so happy with each other.."
"And we'll be making out because we're so sad without them!"
Virgo stared at me skeptically after I said that.
"Probably not.." she said with a slight smile.
"You sure you don't wanna kiss to get back at them?" I asked with a playful smirk plastered across my face.
"Yep, I'm one hundred percent sure."
"I was just kidding, don't worry!"
I stood up and offered Virgo my hand, which she accepted and I helped her up.
"We should get going." I said, letting go of her hand and walking away.
"Libra, wait!" Virgo called after me.
I stopped and turned to see her running towards me. When she was in front of me, she wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me closer.
Then Virgo kissed me.
Aquarius' POV
Wow. What a night.
I was walking down the empty road back to our school, thinking about... random things.
Oh, who am I kidding. I was thinking about Capricorn the entire time. About how he said he liked me and how he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was so worried that he'd be frustrated at me because I couldn't give him a straight answer right away. I just wanted to lay down right then and there and listen to music while staring up at the stars to clear my head, but I couldn't because even in my super awesome dinosaur onesie I was getting cold and needed to just fall asleep in my dorm.
Seriously, though, what was I supposed to do? I honestly didn't know how I felt about him. I had been blocking out those kinds of feelings for a really long time because I thought no one would feel the same about me and I was always afraid of being hurt. I'm still afraid of being hurt, but at that moment I was even more afraid of hurting someone I cared about. I want to be fair to Capricorn and tell him the truth, but I don't know what the truth is.
"Hey Aqua! What are you doing back here?"
Gemini's words startled me out of my daze and I jumped in surprise.
"Jesus Gem, you scared me!" I squeaked.
Gemini laughed. "Well, you're waaaayyyy behind everyone else. Knowing you, you probably would've lost your way. Would you rather have me scare you now or have some molester scare you in an alleyway?"
The thought of that sent shivers up my spine.
"Anyways," Gemini spoke, "What's got you daydreaming?"
"Nothing, really." I sighed. Gemini was my best friend, but I'm not really the kind of person to talk about my problems with anyone.
"C'mon, Aqua!" Gemini pleaded, "You can trust me. Don't leave me in the dirt! I tell you everything, so return the favour."
"Alright, alright!" I groaned, "Only because I don't want you to feel sad and left out... Sooo you know Capricorn?"
"Of course I do, Aqua."
"I know, but anyways... some stuff happened in the corn maze..."
"Um... you didn't bang in a field of corn, did you?"
"No, of course not! I mean, we did almost kiss-"
"Huh?"
"And he did tell me he liked me-"
"What?"
"And he did ask me to be his girlfriend-"
"WHAT?!"
"And I did say I'd think about it..."
"Wait wait wait, hold on a second!" Gemini stopped in her tracks and grabbed onto my shoulders, looking me straight in the eye.
"Please tell me this whole story in GREAT DETAIL." she demanded.
So I did. I told her everything, including how confused I'd been feeling after.
"Soo you don't know if you like him?" Gemini questioned, and I nodded.
"Well I'd be glad to help figure that out!" she exclaimed, "Let's look at the pros and cons. What are things you like about him? What are some reasons that you should date him?"
I thoroughly thought about that, imagining all our moments together in the past and then I imagined moments that could happen in the future.
"Well.." I began, "I admire his ambition. He's so smart and... honestly one of the coolest people I know. He's so calm and collected! Also, there's this thing about him that makes me feel amazing about myself. Every time he compliments me or encourages me I feel like I could do anything. And... I'm not gonna lie, he's super attractive. He's got such nice black hair, and really nice blue eyes that I can't stop looking at. Even the smallest smile from him makes me want to grin... There's lots about Capricorn that would make him an awesome boyf.. I mean partner!... wow. I feel like I just realized that stuff about him."
Gemini smirked. "It sounds like you like him to me! I'm glad you've finally opened your eyes, Aqua... but I know there's something holding you back. So why wouldn't you want to date a guy like Capricorn?"
I looked at the ground.
"I..." I muttered, "I feel like he's too good for me. He's out of my league. If I were his girlfriend, I'd hold him back."
Gemini looked at me, smiling sadly.
"Aqua..." she said, "You're awesome. We all really like you. You're super sexy, and Capricorn thinks you're so sexy he asked you out. Don't hold yourself back, do what you want to do. You'll always be awesome and sexy no matter what."
I lightly chuckled at that, and gave Gemini a hug.
"Thanks, Gem." I mumbled, "I needed that."
After that, we walked back to the school and conversed the entire time. When I got inside my room, I immediately jumped in bed. Hey, I was already wearing pyjamas, so it was alright to just fall asleep!
"Wow. What a night." I whispered to myself.
I wonder if anyone else got some action...
Author's Note:
Hey, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I just wanted to say that I did not create the original idea of the horror story Gemini told. I don't own it, and I appreciate the person that does. Alright, thank you!
Ciao!
