Chapter 78: Disturbances

The evening was serene - the breeze was playing in the city streets, while the restaurants were filled with dancing music. In one of those elegant restaurants which were quite expensive, named 'Unicorn', there was the classical music of Rosenweld playing, while the customers sat at fancy tables and enjoyed quite elegant food such as Kenshinese sushi and the dishes of the neighbouring country of Estelle, which was famous for its quite expensive and high-class cuisine.

There, near the outer window of the restaurant, were three people hiding and peeping through, spying on Scott and Danielle sitting at one of the tables inside. Those three people were Riza, who had quietly followed the elders along; her 'sister' Tiger, who had spotted her from above the skies while flying with her father's dragon Fireball; and Fireball himself, who had joined Tiger and her friend on this so-called 'Spying Mission' in order to 'laugh his ass off' at Scott as he tried to win his crush's heart.

"Shh, no sounds... I can't hear them well if we move even slightly..." Tiger whispered.

"You're the one who's emitting sounds, Tig," Fireball whispered back.

"Shh!" Tiger quieted him down, not giving a pin for the fact he had just stated.

Riza instead curiously and carefully watched the elders at the table with a frown. Meanwhile, Danielle and Scott enjoyed their time in the restaurant.

"Oh, you've chosen quite a place, Scott," Danielle faintly smiled, sipping some red wine. "To be honest, I didn't expect to be invited to such a fancy restaurant..."

"Ah, I... I hope you like it, at least..." Scott grinned shyly, scratching his head at the same time. "It is true in my young years I preferred pubs and stuff, but now I've kind of changed my taste..."

"Liar..." Fireball whispered to his companions as he could hear the couple's conversation just as well as the girls could. "He has never stepped into fancy restaurants before. He was always a pub-lover... Hmph..."

"Ugh, you're making me dislike him even more, Fireball!" Riza frowned.

"I'm just telling the truth".

Tiger instead chuckled:

"He's quite a funny one, though".

"I do enjoy it," Danielle beamed at Scott meanwhile, "I always loved fancy restaurants, but I've rarely been invited to them..." she sighed, remembering her times with her former husband, Marvin.

"Oh..." Scott sighed too, realising he had just hit a painful spot, so he tried to change the subject: "So, anyway... When I first saw you in the Zodiac Stadium on the tournament... You're Player Class, right?"

"Ah, yes," Danielle blushed.

"Your moves were truly amazing and well-thought," Scott grinned, sighing with relief in his heart that he had brought her back on the good mood. "I've never seen a Player Class, even a Joker rank, operate so well before..."

"Hehe, thanks..." Danielle's cheeks flushed red as she cast her eyes down, pleased with such a compliment. She wanted to refill her empty glass when Scott grabbed the wine bottle and beamed:

"Please allow me," he stretched his hand a bit, pouring some wine in her glass. However, there, the black sleeve of his tunic slightly fell off and Danielle noticed deep scar marks as if some claws had cut through him! She widened eyes and covered her mouth with a hand:

"Oh, my!"

Scott noticed her fear and stupefiedly gazed at her, but when he fixed she was watching his scars, he faintly smiled and covered his hand with his sleeve again.

"Sorry... But it is no big deal, really. It is just... before one becomes a Dragon Tamer one has to defeat that same dragon they wish to tame. Fireball and I had it tough in our youth".

"Ah! I... I'm so sorry..." Danielle got concerned - he had suffered so much... To think someone would fight a dragon head-on with bare hands!

"It is fine, all in the past... We are best buddies now," Scott chuckled warmly, remembering his friend.

"Oh... Say, Scott..."

"Yes?" the man curiously looked at her, and a little worriedly, too - why had she turned so sad in all of a sudden?

"You're a good friend with dragons. Why would you want to... get to know me, when I... I have been... his wife?" she looked away, not wanting to mention Marvin Wagner anymore.

"Ah..." Scott still guessed, as Marvin Wagner was a well-known bloodthirsty Dragon Massacrer in his years and so he knew him too well. He sighed - so that was what she was so worried about. "Danielle... I am not the type of man to hold grudges. You were his wife, so what? You've got nothing to do with our conflict. Thankfully, Fireball's not the type to hold grudges either. It is true Marvin Wagner massacred his family too, but you have nothing to do with all that. You are your own self, and you have your own life. You are a very good person, and so is your daughter. So please, don't mention that again," he sadly looked away - he was hurt she brought up such a matter... He didn't want her to think he had anything against Marvin's relatives just because they were Marvin's relatives.

Danielle bitterly smiled once heard his words - such a kind man...

"Thank you..." she softly touched his big manly hand. Scott started and then blushed, gazing into her eyes, just to see the shimmering light in them, making him dazzled by their beauty, so his face shone in a bright smile as well, gifting the warmth back to the woman for such generosity of hers...

When the dusk fell, Scott and Danielle came out of the restaurant, having enjoyed the fancy date very much, but so great was their surprise when they spotted Riza, Tiger, and Fireball cross their way!

"Eh?" they both got stupefied - what were they doing here? And, wait, had they been here all along?!

"You two were on a date!" Tiger exclaimed as if she had only just discovered this fact, "I knew it!"

"Knew what?" Scott's cheeks flushed - damn... to think both of their daughters and even Fireball had seen them!

"You like Danielle, don't you, Scott?" Tiger grinned in a teasing manner.

At this, both Danielle and Scott blushed. Scott got confused and lost for words, while Danielle sadly blinked at Riza who had crossed her arms with discontent:

"Riza, what's wrong, dear?"

"Mom, don't you think it's a little... too fast? I..."

"Dear..."

"I just wanted to... show her how I feel..." Scott bitterly smiled at them, cutting into the conversation, "I guess it's better to talk about this later. It is already too late and Rose Cruce might start worrying about all of us. Let's go".

He exchanged glances with Fireball, who understood the request and turned into his dragon form. The friends sat onto his back and flew back to the Order. But so great was their surprise when instead of the beautiful and magnificent Order building they noticed the ruins, and once they flew down in a haste to find out what was the terrible thing that had happened they saw that only the basement had been left unharmed, and what's more, there were Edmund's broken glasses lying.

"Edmund!" Riza dashed at the glasses and worriedly eyed them, "What the heck happened?!"

"Goodness!" Scott got frightened and worried just like all the others.

"Oh my!"

Tiger quickly pushed the basement door open and all the friends, including Fireball, who had taken back his human form, rushed through the underground corridors, entering the infirmary where the light was coming from, and what they saw was, every friend of theirs, severely wounded and bleeding, being treated by the brethren - Nick and Nora - as even the Defender Class medic Rianna was unconscious. But the news they received was even more shocking - the New World Order had kidnapped their Magister, Edmund!
