The Imitation Game

Today I want to talk about the movie The Imitation Game. In the main roles are Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightly and it's directed by Morten Tyldum. It was first revealed in 2014. The imitation Game counts, obviously, as a war movie. It's based on the true story of Alan Turing, a british mathematician who deciphered the enigma code of the Germans in the second world war. I would give that movie a good 9. I really enjoyed watching it.

As I said, it is about Alan Turing. He was one of the most important people in the second world war. Even if no one really knew about him. He kept a low profile. That was the only way that Germany didn't know that England deciphered their code and the only way to win the war. The movie showed his childhood as well as his adult life. Alan was a genius. He did something that saved millions of lives. But he didn't fit in the norm. He was homosexual. After all that he had done for his country he was accused of having sexual relationships with the same gender. He was given the choice of either go to prison or hormone therapy. He chose hormone therapy. After two years of therapy he committed suicide.

Originally that wanted Leonardo DiCaprio as Alan Turing. I'm glad that they had chosen Benedict Cumberbatch in the end, because it seems like the way better choice to me. Benedict Cumberbatch fits perfectly for this kind of character and I can't see anyone else for this character. It's just perfect like it is. The Producers of The Imitation Game desperately wanted a british director, but they changed their minds when they met Morten Tyldum. It wasn't easy to recreate Alan Turings character or manners. History books hardly ever mentioned him. Mostly due to the fact that he was homosexual. It makes me so angry how people where treated just because they where different. I mean: Millions of people owe their lives to him. Even some people who are alive today wouldn't be alive these days because their parents wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for Alan Turing. Good damn it! People should be thankful and honor him instead of accusing him of something that doesn't harm anyone. And it's ridiculous that we aren't in a better place 70 years later. It's still the basic human rights that we are discussing about. Sometimes it's just embarrassing to be human. Even animals can be homosexual. What is the problem? Everybody should have the right to love, no matter which gender. But anyway. I'm getting a bit off topic. So back to the movie. As a preparation for his role Benedict Cumberbatch dyed his hair and wore fake teeth to look more like Alan Turing. The code-breaking machine was built as similar to the original one as possible. They changed the name from "Bombe" to "Christopher" tough.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in history. And it's not a really familiar topic so it's quite educational. And in my opinion everyone should know Alan Turing. He did so much for England.
