Chapter 4: Run Boy Run

Ben was sitting with Esme on her bed as the two were messing around a bit before breakfast started.

"No fair."  Ben groaned as Esme slapped his hands again.

"Come on.  You have to move faster than that."  Esme smiled as her hands were under his again and she went to whack them and he pulled away.

"Boo."  She laughed as he smiled to her.

"Good. Give my hands a break. They're red."  He looked at his hands.

"Sorry Ben."  She apologized as they heard the bell being rung.

"Come on."  He told her as the two quickly made their way downstairs and stood behind their chair.

Reginald came walking in and pulled his chair back, looking at his children.

"Sit."

They all moved their chairs and took their seats as they started to eat.

Esme handed Ben his napkin as he was looking for it and she just smiled innocently as he grabbed it from her, smiling softly.

Esme took a sip out of her cup as she looked up seeing Five looking at her and he smiled to her and she smiled back.

She than took a bite out of her waffle while Ben started to read his book. The sound of a knife being placed in the table made everyone stop and turn their heads to the noise.

Esme looked at Five Who was the source of the noise and saw him looking at their father.

"Number Five?"  Reginald asked.

"I have a question."  He looked to him.

"Knowledge is an admirable goal, but you know the rules.  No talking during meal times. You are interrupting Herr Carlson."  Their father told him waving his knife in the air a bit.

"I want to time travel."  Five gave him a look.

"No."

"Five.  Please stop."  Esme begged as Five looked to her than scooted out of his chair standing up and looking at Reginald.

"But I'm ready. I've been practicing my spatial jumps, just you said."

He quickly transported over to him.

"See?"

"A spatial jump is trivial when compared with unknowns of time travel.  One is like sliding on the ice. The other is akin to descending blindly into the depths of the freezing water and reappearing as an acorn."

"Well, I don't get it."  Five murmured under his breath.

"Hence the reason you're not ready."  He took a sip of his drink and placed it down.

"I'm not afraid."  Five told him as Esme took a couple deep breaths wanting Five to just sit down and eat his food.

"Now. I forbid you to talk about this anymore."

Five nodded his head than started to head out of the room.

"Number Five!  You haven't been excuse!"  Reginald shouted as he began to run.

Esme quickly got out of her chair and went after him.

"Number Zero!"  He heard him shout after her.

Esme quickly ran to the front door as she saw it close and opened it, running through the gate that was swinging slightly.

She looked around as people were walking by and didn't see him in sight.

"Five?!"  She called out and continued to turn around, trying to find him.

"Five?!"  She checked a couple places than stopped, standing on the sidewalk.

"FIVE!"

Esme made her way downstairs as she saw Klaus smoking his cancer stick as he looked a bit panicked.

"Why are you almost naked?"  Esme questioned as he looked to her.

"Oh. Hey sis."  He smiled to her.

"Here."  She handed him a coat and he took it.

"You Alright?  You look a bit..." she tried to find the right word as Ben looked amused from where he was sitting.

"She's going to know."  Ben told Klaus and he gave him a look.

"She always knows Klaus."  Ben smiled more.

"You lost something that was important."  She raised an eyebrow to him as Ben started to laugh.

"Told you. Better tell her now."

"Shut up."  Klaus told Ben.

"Excuse me?"  Esme asked.

"Not you. I would never tell you to shut up Esme."  Klaus touches her shoulder lightly.

"Who are you talking too than?"  She questioned as Bens smile faded away.

"Don't tell her. Not yet."  Ben told Klaus.

"Just some random dead dude.  His name is....Miguel."  He lied.

"Okay...well. I'm going to take a shower."  She looked at him weirdly before walking away.

"Miguel?"  Ben questioned.

"Oh shut up."  Klaus through a pillow at him and Ben raised an eyebrow as it went through him.

"Feel better?"  He asked his brother.

"I would if it actually hit you."

~~~
Esme closed her eyes as she felt the hot water wash over her face.  The smell of coconut filled the bathroom as the soap washed down her legs and she felt perfectly at peace.
"Esme"
She opened her eyes as she heard the source of the noise. She waited a bit than started to wash the rest of the soap off.
"Esme"
She heard it again and she turned the shower off, wrapping a towel around her body as the water dropped from her wet hair.
The bathroom was filled with steam and she opened the door that lead to the hallway.
She stepped out as she looked down and saw a small figure near the end of it.
"Hello?"  Esme called out a small child's laughter filled the air.
"Come find me"
The whisper of the voice sent chills down her body as the child began to run to another room.
"Wait.  Who are you?"  Esme called out as she quickly went after the child, holding the towel close to her body.
The child ran through the door slamming it shut. Esme quickly opened the door and stepped inside only to be met with the feeling of dead grass and dead leaves.
"No."  She whispered as she looked up and the forest she fears as a child.
She turned around to exit the room but there was no door. Only the forest.
She began to panic and she felt her heart beating quickly in her chest.
"It's not real. It's not real."  She whispered to herself.
"Are we not real enough for you Esme?"  A figure appeared in front of her.
A woman was a couple feet away from her. She has shorter length brown hair and fair skin.
"Am I not real enough?!"  She questioned getting angrier.
"I can show you how real enough we are."
Esme backed up, frightened of the woman and when her eyes turned red she let out a small scream.
She went to turn around but was met with the child she saw in the hall.
A monstrous face appeared on the child as its fingers turned into claws.
Esme let out another scream as she felt someone shaking her.
"Esme!  Esme!  It's not real!"  She heard someone shout and opened her eyes seeing Luther holding her shoulders.
She breathed quickly as she looked around.
"Hey. Hey. It's okay."  He reassured her as Allison and Vanya were a couple feet away from her.
Luther looked down and turned her right arm upward.
Three claw marks were visible as blood ran down her arm and dropped on the floor.
"Esme What happened?"  Luther asked her as she didn't say anything.
It was all very real.
