Chapter 20: The Seven Stages
Everyone watched Five go back inside and Esme looked to Luther. "Can you please bring him back out? We need to discuss this issue." She asked him calmly.
"So you want me to carry him back out?" Luther raised an eyebrow.
"If it comes to that. Yes." She sighed and Luther shrugged before heading inside. It only took a minute before they could hear yelling and some things crashing before Luther came out with Five over his shoulder. "Put me down!" Five shouted while hitting him.
"Five." Esme groaned before Luther places him down, Five giving Luther a death glare while straightening his clothes.
"Something must of happened to them. Diego said he would be here." Esme told him as Five looked at her before kicking a box that was by a dumpster.
"Screw Diego alright?!" Five looked back over to Esme then to the others. "Screw everybody! I was better off on my own in the apocalypse."
Esme sighed, closing her eyes slightly as she listened to Five go off. "Five! Come on." Luther was leaning on the dumpster, clearly irritated by his comments.
"You know what, Luther?" Five quickly went in front of him before walking in a circle with his arms out. "It's every sibling out for themself now."
"Five. Don't be like that. Just take a deep breath. We all need each other." Esme took a step closer to him.
"Do we Esme? Because you seemed to be doing fine with your boy toy over there." Five pointed to Thomas.
"Hey!" Thomas and Esme bother exclaimed.
"Don't bother me." Five headed back to the door, going inside once more, no one saying anything once again.
"Did Five just get meaner?" Klaus whined from the ground.
"Klaus, go check on Allison, okay?" Luther looked down at him. "Make sure she's ok and find the others. I'll handle Five." Luther then turned to Esme.
"Help me with Five. At least I know he won't kill me when you're around." Luther concluded and Esme smiled slightly before going over to Thomas and grabbing his hands gently.
"Can you go with Klaus? Just to make sure he's ok." She asked him and Thomas looked down to a groaning Klaus then to Ben who was covered in puke. Ben looked up to Thomas and lipped 'help me'.
Thomas nodded slowly before turning back to Esme. "Yeah. Think we could use some bonding time as well, don't worry about it." Thomas pecked Esme's lips before letting go of her hands, going over to Klaus.
"Alright. Time to go." He lifted Klaus up who whined some more. "Esme, your boyfriend is so wonderful." He told his sister who gave him a kind smile before following Luther inside.
"Thanks. I'm good." Klaus patted Thomas' shoulder before looking down to Ben, pointing at him.
"And you. You have had your possession privileges revoked." Klaus started to walk away from him.
"I regret nothing." Ben breathed out.
"Stay out of me!" Klaus headed out of the alley way.
"I regret nothing!"
"Back off! Come on Thomas." Klaus called out.
"That's really gross. Is there anyway you can shower?" Thomas questioned and Ben looked up to the man. "Want to trade places?" Ben smirked slightly, reaching out for Thomas who jumped back.
"Ew, no." Thomas quickly made his way after Klaus, leaving Ben laughing from his spot on the ground.
Esme followed Luther up the stairs. "Five, what about doomsday?" Luther questioned.
"Don't you get it, Luther? It's over! All right? We're already dead." Five glanced back slightly as he continued to make his way up the stairs.
"Then where are you going?"
"I'm going to do the unthinkable." Five got to the landing and stopped walking.
"What the hell is that?" Luther asked, Esme not bothering to say anything, just listening.
"Five!" Luther called out as a door slammed shut and Esme saw Luther pounding on the door.
"Did he really lock it?" Esme questioned, groaning slightly from her brothers actions.
~~~
"Here's the house." Klaus gestured with his arms as Thomas stepped forward and gave a few hard knocks on the door. They waited just a bit before a man cracked open the door, Klaus coming into view.
"Hey, Ray-Ray. I'm so sorry it's late, but, uh-"
"Klaus. Now is not a good time." Ray looked to him then to Thomas, not knowing who the hell the hooded guy was.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Klaus said softly before his eyes moved behind Ray.
"Allison!" Klaus exclaimed and pushed his way in, going towards his sister. "I was so worried about you. So glad you're ok." Klaus gave his sister a tight hug.
"I'm Thomas." Thomas introduced himself before making his way in, Ray closing the door behind him.
"Oh." Klaus looked at the dead guy on the couch.
"Hey. I know this guy." Thomas got closer to the man, observing him as the three adults looked at him.
"You do?" Allison questioned.
"Yeah." Thomas nodded before looking at her. "Him and two other guys attacked Esme and I at our house." He explained.
Klaus looked at the dead body before looking at everyone else. "Guess it's going to be one of those nights, huh?" He started to roll up his sleeves. "So, are we burning or burying him?"
"I think we should burn him." Thomas nodded and Ray looked at the two men surprised at their comments.
"Klaus. Grab his legs, I'll get the arms." Thomas instructed.
"Right." Klaus snapped his fingers and made his way over as the two men lifted the body. "Wait." Thomas looked at Klaus. "Maybe we should cut his limbs off, it would be easier to move the body and people won't get suspicious." Thomas suggested.
Everyone looked at Thomas, not expecting him to say that. Thomas innocently looked at each person, not knowing why they were looking at him weirdly.
"Was it something I said?"
~~~
"Why are you drinking so much water all of a sudden?" Esme scrunched her eyebrows together.
"I'm going to need to be hydrated." Five told his sister, screwing the cap back on the lid.
"Why?" She asked and he didn't answer, Five just went over to the table and started to put baby powder up his sleeves.
Both Esme and Luther looked at each other then back to Five. "What's up with the baby powder?" Luther asked slowly.
"It'll help with the itching."
"What itching? Five, what the hell is going on here?" Luther asked once again and Esme's eyes lit up as she placed a hand on Luthers arm. "He has a plan!" She exclaimed happily.
"Well, it's a desperation move, but...since our brain-dead siblings are incapable of meeting a simple deadline, I got no choice." Five made grabbed his jacket and made his way into the other room, his siblings following behind.
"I have to find myself." Five finished.
"Oh. I see what this is Five." Esme sighed and Luther and Five looked at her. Luther was confused and Five was shocked.
"You do?" Five asked, not knowing how she knew.
"You're going through a tough time and you feel alone. But, I am here for you." Esme gave him a soft smile.
"Should've seen that coming. No." Five looked at his sister then to the watch he flipped out. "I just arrived in Dallas 15 minutes ago."
"Oh." Esme nodded, that's what he meant.
Five put on his jacket and started to stretch out. "If you two recall, I was sent to 1963 on a job by the Commisson to make sure the president was assassinated."
Esme gasped and pointed to Five. "You're the reason why the best president ever was killed?! Five!"
"Hey. You're the one dating an assassin." Five gave her a bit of attitude and a look, waiting for her to say something back.
"No comment." She mumbled.
"My old self is walking around Dallas with a briefcase that can get us home." Five continued to go on with his plan.
"Oh, my god. Five, you're a genius." Luther clasped his hands together.
"However, there are two significant problems, problem number one: Just like Esme's dear boyfriend, I am a trained assassin. If I know me, I'm not going to react kindly to bumping into myself. Problem number two: you're not supposed to exist in close proximity to yourself in the same timeline. Side effects can be disastrous."
"What sort of side effects?" Luther questioned.
"Well, according to Commission Handbook Chapter 27, subsection 3b, the seven stages in paradox psychosis are...
Stage One: Denial
Two: Itching
Three: Extreme thirst and urination
Four: Excessive gas
Five: Acute paranoia
Six: Uncontrolled perspiration
And Seven: Homicidal rage"
"That seems just fun." Esme said sarcastically. "Especially the last one, homicidal rage?" She looked at him in shock.
"Yeah." Five nodded before pacing once again. "I'm going to need you two to help me." Five continued.
"Incase the paradox psychosis gets too severe I need you two, to make sure I stay on task. So, whatever happens, whatever I say, make sure I get that briefcase. Okay?"
"Okay." The two nodded.
Five headed towards the stairs, Esme following before Five stopped.
"Luther."
"Right."
Once the two got out of the shop they headed down the road and reached an Irish pub, the three going inside slowly before Five looked at the bar. "There I am."
"Why don't we just grab the briefcase and run?" Luther asked.
"Luther, I would never let that happen. We are trained to guard these briefcases with our lives."
"Right." Luther nodded.
"Plus with the paradox psychosis going on. I'm in danger just being in here with myself." Five nodded.
"What? What do you mean?" Luther asked.
"It's not that hard. Let me put it in words you'll understand. Little five seeing old five, not good. Can cause killing." Esme told him simply.
"Oh." Luther nodded.
"At least someone here gets it." Five muttered before looking back to himself on the bar, itching his neck slightly.
"You just itched your neck. That's stage two!" Luther pointed at him.
"No, I didn't." Five gave him a look.
"Denial!" Esme pointed out and Five rolled his eyes.
"Wait." Luther stopped him. "Maybe Esme should go to him first, seeing you will just freak him out and lose his shit. Let her break the ice."
"Ok. If anything. I wouldn't kill Esme on sight." Five nodded.
"What?" Esme's eyes widened.
"You got this." Luther pushed her forward a bit and she stayed put and looked back to the two who gestured for her to go.
Esme took a deep breath before she made her way over, standing a few feet away from him. "Five." Esme said and he looked at her. "What did you call me, young lady?"
Young lady? She felt like she was being scolded. Oh, dear. Can she go now? She slowly sat down and put a smile on her face, the two looking at each other.
"Heyyyy. It's me, Number 0. You know your favorite sibling." She held her smile on her face.
The older Five dropped his pen, realization suddenly coming to him. "Esme. How did you...?" He started to reach for the briefcase.
"Hey. It's ok. Don't worry, don't have demons with me either. I can explain, but first I need to introduce you to some people. Just...please don't freak out." She told him.
"What the hell are you talking-"
"Please just..." Esme cut him off before letting out a nervous laugh. "Don't freak out. We are all siblings here after all." Esme tapped the bar before standing back up where she turned her head. Present Five and Luther coming out.
"Hey, there stranger." Present Five said, looking at the older him.
The four sat at a table, Present Five and older Five basically glaring at each other, no one saying anything. While, Luther and Esme looked a bit uncomfortable at the situation.
"I'm older actually. By fourteen days." Five looked at him.
"I have pubic hair smarter then you."
"Oh, dear." Esme nervously grabbed her glass of beer and took a sip before making a face. "Why did I drink that?" She asked herself, pushing it away from her.
"You see, one hour from now, on the grassy knoll, before the president is killed. You break your contract with the commission. I already know you're thinking about it, all those years in the apocalypse, we never stopped worrying about our family. Well, today, you're going to do something about it. Today, you are going to attempt to travel forward to 2019, but you're going to screw it up and end up in this twip of a body." Present Five pointed to himself.
"They're both sweating." Esme leaned into Luther, whispering.
"I feel like they skipped most of the stages and went right to the murder one." Esme continued then pulled away from Luther.
"What do you think?" Present Five asked.
"I think...I need to piss." Older Five grabbed the briefcase and headed to the back.
"I think that went well, besides all the sweat." Luther dabbed Fives head with a napkin.
"No." Present Five moved around in his seat slightly. "Something doesn't feel right about this. I don't trust him."
"But he's you." Luther gave him a look.
"Exactly."
"Luther, go talk to him. Because honestly if I was him, I would sneak out the back. You know, like when you get a horrible date and you just leave?" Esme commented and the two looked at her.
"Precisely!" Present Five almost shouted, pointing at Esme. "Go, go Luther." He pushed him slightly as Luther got up and headed in the back.
"You sure you're alright?" Esme raised an eyebrow to Present Five, observing him.
"Yeah. Yeah." Present Five tapped the table slightly.
"Right." Esme dragged out a bit as the two sat there. Five was drinking from his beer while Esme looked at a stain on the table, not saying anything until Luther came back out with older Five.
"You good?" Present Five asked, standing up along with Esme.
"We're good...you got yourselves a deal."
~~~
"Klaus, I thought you were supposed to be helping us." Thomas hissed slightly as him, Allison, and Ray were lifting up the body that they covered with a sheet and tied slightly.
"I'm busy Thomas. Chit chatting." Klaus waved him off.
"We should've cut him up, would've made this easier." Thomas told Allison and Ray.
"One, that's gross and two, that will make a mess." Allison looked at him.
"Not if you do it right." Thomas smiled slightly.
"You've done this before?" Ray looked at him surprised.
"I've done many things." Thomas mumbled before getting a better grip on the body.
"Ok. We got this." The three lifted once again but suddenly dropped the body when a flash of blue light appeared in the kitchen, Allison screaming slightly.
"Oh, oh good. You're both here." Diego breathed out, walking into the room with another room as he saw Klaus and Allison before his eyes fell on Thomas. "Oh, and you."
"We Gotta go." Diego told the three.
"Jesus! Diego!" Allison exclaimed.
"Woah, Number 2, 3, and 4. We almost have an Umbrella straight flush here." The smaller man next to Diego commented.
"Ray, this is my other brother, Diego." Allison said as Ray was basically clinging onto the fireplace.
"Hey man, sorry to crash in here like this." Diego walked over to him and shook his hand.
"Why doesn't he talk to me like that?" Thomas pointed out and Diego looked at him.
"Shut up Thomas." Diego told him.
"Ok. Whose this guy?" Klaus asked.
"Herb, he worked with Five at the commission." Diego explained, walking back over.
"We monitor and maintain the time-space continuum." Herb explained.
"Ok?" Klaus questioned, not really believing it.
"No, for real. I was just there. It's awesome. Look, I know what causes doomsday. It's Vanya." Diego told them.
"Wait? What?" Allison asked and Klaus quickly stood up, going over to his siblings while Thomas looked over to Ben that was sitting on the couch.
"Does your family usually cause the end of the world?" Thomas asked.
"Nope. Seems like it's just Vanya." Ben nodded slightly before smiling widely.
"Welcome to the family Thomas."
"Yeah...it's a bit crazy." Thomas nodded as he was listening to what Diego was saying. "But also thrilling. It makes me feel to alive."
Ben just blinked at him. "Can't say I feel the last part."
"Sorry."
"You're good."
"Ok. We need to go, right now." Diego told them.
~~~
The four got to the building and Diego kept pressing the elevator button till it opened and the four headed inside and waited as it started to go up.
They all looked up when the elevator started to rock back and forth, the lights flickering and when they reached the fifth floor the door opened where waves of wind sent them all back.
"We need to get out of here!" Thomas shouted as he grabbed the edge of the elevator door, Klaus doing the same thing on his side.
"Allison!" Thomas quickly looked back and grabbed her arm. "Get behind that desk." He told her before pushing her out.
All of them quickly got out and crowded behind the desk area where they were basically like sitting ducks.
"Question, guys. Who are we trying to save Vanya from?" Klaus asked, looking at Thomas, Allison, and Diego.
"The FBI." The three answered.
"But, if they're all sucking ceiling right now, why hasn't she stopped?" Klaus questioned, making Diego look at Allison, wondering the same thing.
"Anybody have a plan?" Thomas asked, looking directly to Diego. Diego, who was getting quite annoyed by him simply answered.
"Just shut up Thomas."
**I've finally finished. Yay! I've been quite busy with school and work. Only two more chapters left tho! Only one question today, but have some memes for y'all!
Here's some future fanfics I'm planning on coming out with, if you like the fandom look out for them on my page. They're not in a specific order and I don't want to be that author that goes "go read it!" It's just if you like that fandom :)
